2026 Nissan Leaf Detailed: Finally Competitive, Still Affordable

The 2026 Nissan LEAF pairs a $29,990 starting MSRP with up to 303 miles of EPA-estimated range, but range falls as you move up trims. Here’s how price, equipment, charging, and ownership details compare.

The redesigned U.S.-market 2026 Nissan LEAF starts at $29,990 and has an EPA-estimated range of up to 303 miles in S+. That combination makes it a more credible affordable-EV contender than a base price alone suggests. But the 303-mile figure applies only to the base trim: the better-equipped SV+ is rated at 288 miles, while the Platinum+ is rated at 259 miles. Nissan’s prices also exclude some charges, so compare a dealer’s full quote—not just the advertised MSRP—before deciding what “affordable” means for your budget.

How much does the 2026 Nissan LEAF cost?

Nissan lists three front-wheel-drive trims, with starting MSRPs of $29,990 for the S+, $34,230 for the SV+, and $38,990 for the Platinum+. These are manufacturer-listed starting prices, not guaranteed transaction prices. Nissan’s August 19, 2025 pricing release says tax, title, license, and destination are excluded; the exact dealer price can vary.

There is a destination-charge discrepancy in Nissan’s official materials: the 2025 pricing release lists $1,575 for destination and handling, while the current Nissan specifications page displays $1,545. Check the live build-and-price figure and get the destination charge in writing on the dealer quote rather than assuming either figure applies to your purchase.

Trim Starting MSRP EPA-estimated range Notable standard equipment
S+ FWD $29,990 303 miles 18-inch steel wheels with aero covers, cloth seats, dual 12.3-inch displays, four-speaker audio system
SV+ FWD $34,230 288 miles 18-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, dual 14.3-inch displays, Google built-in, six-speaker audio system
Platinum+ FWD $38,990 259 miles 19-inch alloy wheels, dimming panoramic roof, heated front and rear seats and steering wheel, 10-speaker Bose Personal Plus system

Prices and listed equipment are from Nissan’s current LEAF specifications page; Nissan advises checking live trim details. The prices are starting MSRPs and exclude charges noted above. Nissan’s August 19, 2025 pricing release provides the dated pricing and destination details.

What is the maximum range of the 2026 Nissan LEAF?

The maximum published EPA-estimated range is 303 miles for the S+. Nissan’s 2026 brochure rates the SV+ at 288 miles and the Platinum+ at 259 miles, so the most expensive trim is not the longest-range choice. Treat these as EPA estimates, not a promise of the distance every driver will cover on a charge; actual range depends on conditions and use.

Trim EPA-estimated range EPA-estimated city/highway/combined efficiency
S+ 303 miles 131 / 111 / 121 MPGe
SV+ 288 miles 123 / 105 / 114 MPGe
Platinum+ 259 miles 110 / 96 / 103 MPGe

These are Nissan-published EPA estimates by trim from the 2026 LEAF brochure. Nissan also lists a 75-kWh battery and a 214-horsepower electric motor in its 2026 press kit. Battery capacity and motor output describe the vehicle; neither establishes real-world range or performance for an individual trip.

Which LEAF trim offers the best fit?

S+: prioritize published range and entry price

The S+ is the range-and-price anchor: it starts at $29,990 and carries the 303-mile EPA estimate. Its dual 12.3-inch displays provide a substantial screen setup even in the base trim, though it has cloth seating, steel wheels with aero covers, and a four-speaker audio system. For buyers who mainly want the longest stated range at the lowest starting price, it is the clearest fit on Nissan’s published numbers.

SV+: weigh added equipment against the price step

The SV+ costs $4,240 more at MSRP than the S+ and gives up 15 miles of EPA-estimated range. In return, Nissan lists alloy wheels, heated front seats, larger dual 14.3-inch displays, Google built-in, and a six-speaker audio system. Whether that trade is worthwhile depends on how much those features matter to you; the published figures do not establish a universal value score.

  • [AT-A-GLANCE CHARGING COMMAND: TOTAL CONTROL, INSTANTLY] While most ev chargers solutions confine vital data to in-car screens, the Raylix tesla charger breaks free with its enhanced TFT color display. This Raylix-exclusive feature delivers crystal-clear, real-time updates—voltage, current, power load, AND critical charging temperature—directly on the unit. Just one glance gives you complete charging insight. It’s not just information; it's the empowering peace of mind and satisfying control that transforms every charge into a masterfully managed experience.

Platinum+: pay for comfort and audio, not maximum range

The Platinum+ starts $9,000 above the S+ and has 44 fewer EPA-estimated miles. Nissan lists a dimming panoramic roof, heated front and rear seats and steering wheel, 19-inch alloy wheels, and a 10-speaker Bose Personal Plus audio system. It may suit buyers who value those amenities more than maximizing range per dollar, but it is the wrong trim to choose on the assumption that the highest price buys the longest range.

How does the LEAF charge, and can it use Tesla Superchargers?

Nissan specifies up to 150 kW DC fast-charging capability. “Up to” describes the stated peak capability, not a charging speed maintained throughout a session or a guaranteed time to a particular battery level. Charging conditions, station capability, and the vehicle’s charging behavior affect the result.

  • Universal Compatibility: Works seamlessly with Mercedes, Chevy, Ford, Mustang Mach-E, Cadillac, Hyundai Ioniq, Kia EV6/EV9, Nissan Leaf, Chevy Bolt, Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, and all PHEV/BEV. Tesla compatible with NACS adapter (sold separately)

The car has two charging ports: a driver-side J1772 port for AC charging, including home and many Level 2 public chargers, and a passenger-side NACS port for DC fast charging, according to Nissan’s press kit. Nissan’s current LEAF overview advertises access to more than 27,500 Tesla Superchargers without an adapter and describes Plug & Charge through Nissan’s network. That network count is Nissan’s current claim, accessed October 7, 2026; station eligibility, network terms, and activation requirements should be checked for the specific location and account. The older press kit gives a different, lower network count, so the live Nissan page is the more current source for the advertised figure.

Nissan says the LEAF includes a mobile charge cord for 120V and 240V outlets. That gives owners an included charging option; it does not mean every home outlet or electrical setup is suitable for every charging need. A separate Level 2 home charger may be useful for regular home charging if the home’s electrical service and installation support it, but it is not a universal requirement.

What should you check before buying?

  • Get the full price in writing. Compare the dealer’s out-the-door quote, including destination and applicable taxes, title, license, fees, incentives, and any dealer-added items. Nissan’s MSRP is a starting point, and its official materials differ on destination charges.
  • Choose by trim-specific range. If range is the priority, compare the S+’s 303-mile estimate with the SV+’s 288 and Platinum+’s 259 rather than applying the maximum figure to every LEAF.
  • Check charging access where you drive. Confirm that the DC fast-charging sites you expect to use are compatible and eligible under current Nissan and network terms. For home charging, consider your outlet, electrical service, and routine before buying additional equipment.
  • Review warranty terms. Nissan’s brochure lists an 8-year/100,000-mile limited battery warranty, whichever comes first. Consult current warranty documentation for coverage terms and exclusions.
  • Confirm adapter needs and accessories. Nissan’s accessory list includes a CCS adapter for all trims, but its exact purpose and whether you need it depend on the charging equipment and compatibility involved. Verify the correct connector, vehicle fit, and current availability before purchasing an adapter.

Nissan’s 2026 brochure is the source for the included mobile charge cord and limited battery warranty. The adapter is listed in Nissan’s pricing-release accessory information.

Is the 2026 Nissan LEAF competitive with other affordable EVs?

The case for “finally competitive” rests on a concrete combination: a $29,990 starting MSRP, the S+’s 303-mile EPA estimate, a redesigned crossover body, and Nissan-advertised access to more than 27,500 Tesla Superchargers. Those features give the LEAF a stronger published range-and-charging proposition at its entry price than the phrase “under $30,000” alone conveys.

That is not proof it is the cheapest or best EV for every buyer. An Associated Press story dated July 1, 2026, reporting on an Edmunds comparison, says the 2026 LEAF and 2027 Chevrolet Bolt both start around $30,000 and that Edmunds tested both. The available account does not provide a complete specification comparison or establish an overall winner. Compare current transaction prices, range, charging capability and network access, cabin and cargo utility, warranty, and local availability before choosing between them.
