What engine is in the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander?
Every standard 2026 Outlander trim uses a 1.5-liter turbocharged mild-hybrid engine rated by Mitsubishi at 174 horsepower and 206 lb-ft of torque. The mild-hybrid system recovers energy during braking and deceleration; it is not the plug-in hybrid powertrain found in the separately sold Outlander PHEV. How many miles per gallon does the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander get?
Mitsubishi lists different fuel-economy figures by drivetrain. Its overview gives 2WD models 26 mpg city, 31 mpg highway and 28 mpg combined. The model-family page lists 26 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and 27 mpg combined for S-AWC versions of the ES, SE, SEL and Trail Edition. These are manufacturer-published figures; verify the EPA rating for the exact trim and drivetrain before comparing vehicles.

How many seats does the 2026 Outlander have?
The standard Outlander has three rows and seats up to seven, according to Mitsubishi. The third row folds flat to expand the cargo area, but the manufacturer information cited here does not give a cargo-volume figure. Actual comfort and space needs are best checked in person, especially if adults will use the third row regularly.
How much can a 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander tow?
Mitsubishi states a maximum towing capacity of 2,000 pounds when the Outlander is equipped with the factory-installed towing hitch. That is a conditional maximum, not a guarantee for every vehicle or load: vehicle payload, accessories and options can reduce the allowable towing capacity. Check the owner’s manual and vehicle-specific ratings before towing. Mitsubishi’s product-page FAQ provides the manufacturer’s towing qualification.

Is the 2026 Outlander PHEV the same vehicle?
No. The Outlander PHEV is a separate plug-in hybrid model with a different powertrain, price and efficiency figures. Mitsubishi lists its starting MSRP at $43,245. Its PHEV specifications include 297 combined horsepower, 45 miles of electric range, 73 MPGe combined electricity and gasoline, 27 mpg combined on gasoline alone, an estimated 420-mile total range and a 22.7-kWh lithium-ion drive battery. These figures apply to the PHEV only; they are not specifications for the standard gasoline Outlander.
