The Mercedes-Benz S-Class unveiled on January 29, 2026, pairs a redesigned, screen-led cabin with a few deliberately tactile controls. It is an extensive update to the current generation—not a confirmed all-new generation—and Mercedes-Benz says more than half the vehicle, about 2,700 components, has been newly developed or re-engineered.
What “old and new” means in the 2026 S-Class
The contrast is clearest at the driver’s seat. A new dashboard brings in the MBUX Superscreen, while the steering wheel restores rocker switches for the limiter and DISTRONIC and a roller for volume. Mercedes-Benz says those physical controls return in response to customer feedback. Capacitive controls and broad glass-covered displays remain, so this is a selective return to tactile hardware—not a retreat from digital interfaces.
Mercedes-Benz calls the update the most extensive within one S-Class generation. Its claim that more than 50 percent of the vehicle, around 2,700 components, is new or re-engineered describes the scale of the work; it does not establish that the car is an all-new generation.
How the redesigned front cabin is laid out
Three displays, with the front screens under one glass surface
Mercedes-Benz describes the standard MBUX Superscreen as a 14.4-inch central display and a 12.3-inch front-passenger display beneath continuous glass. The 12.3-inch instrument display is separate. The global press material says it can optionally be shown in 3D; equipment and availability can vary by market.

New console and door details
The updated interior also has new door trims and a reimagined center console with wood inlays, illuminated cup holders, and accessible phone compartments. The console is designed to charge two phones wirelessly side by side. USB-C charging can deliver up to 100 W, according to Mercedes-Benz.
Rear-seat amenities and comfort features
Long-wheelbase First-Class seating
Buyers of the long-wheelbase S-Class can configure a four-seat First-Class rear compartment, which Mercedes-Benz presents as a business-lounge layout. Its full-length console includes concealed storage, wireless and USB-C charging, a refrigerated compartment, temperature-controlled cup holders, and folding tables.

Entertainment, calls, and cabin air
Available rear entertainment uses 13.1-inch displays and detachable MBUX remote controls. Mercedes-Benz says the system’s cameras can support video conferencing. The company also announces front heated seat belts, reaching up to 44°C, and Digital Vent Control with an electric filter. Mercedes-Benz says the filter can purify cabin air roughly every 90 seconds; that performance statement is the manufacturer’s, not an independently verified test result.
Personalization and equipment depend on the market
Mercedes-Benz’s MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure program is described as offering more than 150 exterior paint colors and over 400 interior colors, alongside new trim finishes and upholstery choices. Those are manufacturer figures, and the actual combinations available depend on market and configuration.

Mercedes-Benz’s U.S. quick reference is for the 2027 model year and shows that some equipment is tied to particular configurations or packages. Its U.S. equipment list should not be assumed to apply in other countries, and global announcement language alone does not make every feature standard. The interior’s direction is a blend rather than a reversal: larger integrated displays and capacitive interaction share space with selected physical controls, revised wood and trim, and expanded rear-seat amenities. Mercedes-Benz CTO Joerg Burzer has framed the car around MB.OS, AI-driven capabilities, the MBUX Virtual Assistant, MB.DRIVE driver assistance, and rear-seat technology. Those are the company’s positioning claims; the cited official materials do not provide an independent comparative cabin test against rival luxury sedans.
