Neither is an automatic winner: compare the exact powertrain, equipment, and local price you want.
How do their starting prices compare?
Lexus lists the 2026 RX from $52,775, while Mercedes-Benz lists the 2026 GLE 350 from $62,250. These are manufacturers’ starting prices for different lineups, not an equivalent-trim comparison. The RX range includes gas, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and F SPORT versions, while the GLE family includes powertrains beyond the GLE 350.
To judge value, compare build sheets for the same drivetrain and the equipment you need, then check local inventory and the final price. The starting figures alone do not establish the price gap between similarly equipped vehicles.

The RX and GLE families both offer more than one way to balance performance and fuel use. Their published figures are not all directly comparable: Lexus provides combined mpg for several RX models, while Mercedes lists city/highway mpg for the GLE 350 and GLE 450.

Lexus identifies the RX 350 as a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder and the GLE 350 as a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 48-volt mild-hybrid drive. For an efficiency-focused buyer, the RX 350h AWD’s 36 mpg combined is a strong published figure; the U.S. Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency’s 2026 Fuel Economy Guide lists the same combined figure. Compare like rating types and exact drivetrains rather than treating city/highway mpg, combined mpg, and MPGe as interchangeable.
For plug-in hybrids, Lexus lists the RX 450h+ at 38 miles of manufacturer-estimated electric range; Mercedes lists the GLE 450e at 49 miles. Those are manufacturer-published estimates, not a guarantee of a particular driver’s electric distance. The GLE 450e’s 57/63 MPGe figures are city/highway ratings, not mpg.

Which one has more passenger and cargo flexibility?
Mercedes lists the GLE with five seats and an optional seven-seat configuration. Its published cargo capacity is 33.3 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 74.9 cubic feet maximum. Lexus’s RX overview identifies five seats. The available Lexus figures here do not establish directly comparable RX cargo capacity, so verify the precise model-year and configuration before deciding based on luggage space.
What about towing?
Mercedes lists towing capacity of up to 7,700 pounds for the GLE 350. The cited Lexus RX overview does not provide a comparable towing figure. If towing is a deciding factor, confirm the rating and required equipment for the exact vehicle you intend to buy; these figures do not support a direct RX-versus-GLE towing comparison.

What safety equipment and ratings are established?
Lexus says Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard on every 2026 RX. That describes standard equipment, not proof that one vehicle is safer overall. Comparable independent crash-test ratings for both 2026 models are not established here, so check current ratings and trim-specific driver-assistance equipment before using safety as a tiebreaker.
