The 2026 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4MATIC SUV makes a strong case on paper with a turbocharged inline-six, mild-hybrid assistance, standard all-wheel drive and a roomy, configurable cabin. Mercedes-Benz USA lists it at $72,250 MSRP. Those specifications explain the appeal, but they do not establish that it drives better than its rivals or is the class winner; that would require comparable independent testing.
This review focuses on the U.S.-market 2026 GLE 450 SUV, not the GLE 450e plug-in hybrid or the GLE 450 Coupe. Figures below are Mercedes-Benz specifications, not results from an independent road test.
How much does the 2026 GLE 450 cost?
Mercedes-Benz USA lists the 2026 GLE 450 SUV at $72,250 MSRP on its U.S. GLE model page. MSRP is the manufacturer’s listed price, not an out-the-door quote; options, taxes, fees and dealer pricing can change the amount a buyer pays.
That price positions the GLE 450 as a premium midsize luxury SUV. Whether it is worth the money depends on how much value you place on its six-cylinder powertrain, equipment and cabin flexibility. The available specifications alone cannot settle the question against competing models.

What engine is in the Mercedes-Benz GLE 450?
The 2026 GLE 450 pairs a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with a mild-hybrid drive system and a nine-speed automatic transmission. Mercedes-Benz USA lists output at 375 horsepower and 413 lb-ft of torque on its GLE 450 build page. Power goes to all four wheels through Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.
A mild hybrid is not the same thing as a plug-in hybrid: the GLE 450 is the conventional gasoline-powered model with mild-hybrid assistance, while the separately named GLE 450e is a plug-in hybrid. The GLE 450 Coupe is also a distinct body style; its specifications and price should not be assumed to match the SUV described here.

How quick is the GLE 450?
Mercedes-Benz’s two U.S. pages give different acceleration figures. The build page lists 5.0 seconds from 0 to 60 mph, while the company’s GLE comparison page lists 5.3 seconds for the GLE 450. The sources do not explain the difference, so neither figure should be presented as a single definitive time for every configuration.
Both numbers are manufacturer-published claims, not independently measured acceleration results. They indicate the intended performance level, but they do not substitute for a test drive or a like-for-like comparison using consistent test conditions.

Fuel economy, towing and space
Mercedes-Benz’s comparison page lists 19 mpg city and 25 mpg highway for the GLE 450. Those are manufacturer figures; real-world consumption depends on driving conditions and cannot be established from the published specifications alone. The same page lists towing capacity, seating and cargo figures as follows:
| Specification | 2026 GLE 450 SUV | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Fuel economy | 19 mpg city / 25 mpg highway | Mercedes-Benz USA comparison-page specification |
| Maximum towing capacity | 7,700 lb | Mercedes-Benz USA comparison-page specification |
| Seating | Five standard; seven optional | Mercedes-Benz USA comparison-page specification; seven-seat capacity is optional |
| Cargo capacity | 33.3–74.9 cu ft | Mercedes-Benz USA comparison-page specification; capacity varies by seat configuration |
These figures come from Mercedes-Benz’s GLE comparison page. The 7,700-pound towing figure is a manufacturer-stated maximum, not a guarantee for every vehicle or load. Buyers planning to tow should confirm the specific vehicle’s ratings and equipment, along with applicable trailer and payload limits.

Does the GLE 450 have a winning formula?
Its formula is easy to understand: a six-cylinder engine with substantial published torque, mild-hybrid assistance, all-wheel drive and the option of a third seating row. That combination should appeal to buyers who want a premium SUV with more than four-cylinder power and the flexibility to carry extra passengers occasionally.
But “winning” is a comparative claim, and the available figures do not prove one. There is no independent ride or handling evaluation, rival-by-rival comparison, reliability evidence or safety-rating result here. The evidence supports a well-specified luxury SUV on paper—not a verdict that the GLE 450 outperforms its class.

What should buyers verify before choosing one?
- Configuration: Confirm whether you are shopping for the GLE 450 SUV, GLE 450e plug-in hybrid or GLE 450 Coupe; their names do not make their specifications interchangeable.
- Final price: Check the vehicle’s actual equipment and transaction quote rather than treating MSRP as the final cost.
- Seating and cargo: Decide whether the optional seven-seat arrangement suits your needs; the listed cargo range varies with configuration.
- Towing: Verify the particular vehicle’s equipment and applicable limits before relying on the published maximum.
- Tires: Mercedes-Benz’s comparison page lists 275/50R20 all-season tires for its described GLE 450 configuration. Wheel and fitment choices can differ, so check the vehicle’s door-jamb tire placard and use the specified size and required load and speed ratings when replacing tires.
- Driving impressions: Test-drive the exact configuration you intend to buy. Published power and acceleration figures cannot tell you whether its ride, controls and handling suit you.
