For 2026, Mercedes-Benz USA lists it from $163,200 MSRP. Its headline package combines four electric motors, 579 hp and 859 lb-ft with G-Class off-road equipment—but published specifications are not a substitute for independent road or range testing.
What is the Mercedes-Benz EQG?
Mercedes-Benz announced the first fully electric G-Class in April 2024. The production vehicle is named the G 580 with EQ Technology. It keeps the familiar boxy G-Class form and ladder-frame architecture, adapted around a battery pack. Mercedes-Benz’s launch material describes the icon as electric; that branding does not change the production name.

The figures and equipment below come from Mercedes-Benz’s US and UK model listings. They describe manufacturer specifications, not independent test results. Acceleration figures use different speed endpoints, and range is reported on the UK WLTP cycle.
How much does the electric G-Class cost?
Mercedes-Benz USA lists the 2026 G 580 with EQ Technology from $163,200 MSRP as of October 8, 2026. This is a US-market starting price, not a universal price or a guaranteed transaction total: configuration, options, destination charges, taxes, registration and fees can change what a buyer pays. Mercedes-Benz UK’s accessed model page did not state an on-the-road price, so the US figure should not be applied to the UK or other markets.

What is distinctive about its off-road design?
The G 580 retains the G-Class silhouette and ladder-frame layout while using four individually controlled motors. Mercedes-Benz lists Low Range and several electric-specific functions, including G-TURN, G-STEERING and Offroad Crawl. These are manufacturer-described features; the published claims do not establish how the vehicle performs across varied terrain in independent testing.

G-TURN
Mercedes-Benz USA says G-TURN can rotate the vehicle in place on unpaved or loose surfaces when Low Range and Rock mode are selected. The manufacturer says the maneuver is intended for suitable low-friction surfaces and warns drivers to check the surroundings. It is a specialized maneuver, not a substitute for assessing terrain, clearance and available space.
G-STEERING and Offroad Crawl
Mercedes-Benz UK says G-STEERING can reduce the turning circle off-road at speeds up to 15 mph. Offroad Crawl is among the listed off-road functions; the cited pages do not provide independent performance measurements for it. The UK listing gives a 13.6 m turning circle, but that figure should not be confused with the manufacturer’s separate claim about reducing the turning circle off-road.

Displays and rear design box
The manufacturer describes off-road information displays and a rear design box intended to carry charging cables, tools or snow chains. The listing does not establish that a charging cable is included or that every third-party cable fits. Buyers should confirm equipment and connector compatibility for their market and chosen configuration.

The specification sheet shows how Mercedes-Benz has adapted the G-Class format for electric propulsion: four motors, a large battery, Low Range and functions designed for tight off-road maneuvers. The UK page’s WLTP range and charging specifications provide a reference point for buyers, but they do not answer how the vehicle will suit a particular commute, trip or climate.

No substantive independent road-test result or real-world range measurement is established in the cited material. A buyer comparing the G 580 with combustion G-Class models or other electric SUVs should look for comparable independent evidence on:
- Range and energy use at motorway speeds, in cold weather and while towing.
- Charging performance across battery temperatures, charge levels and different charging equipment.
- Ride and handling on-road, alongside control and capability on varied off-road terrain.
- Whether the seating and cargo space meet everyday needs.
- Purchase and ownership costs in the buyer’s market.
These are open evaluation questions, not reported shortcomings or results. A meaningful comparison should use the same market and comparable test cycles where possible, and distinguish manufacturer claims from independently measured outcomes.
