Mazda USA lists the 2026 CX-30 starting at $26,375 and the 2026 CX-5 at $29,990, a $3,615 difference before taxes, destination charges, dealer fees, or differences in transaction prices. The CX-30’s shorter body and narrower width may be easier to accommodate in a tight parking space, but the published dimensions alone do not establish how either SUV feels to park. How much more cargo fits in the CX-5?
Car and Driver lists 33.7 cubic feet behind the CX-5’s second row, compared with 20.2 cubic feet in the CX-30. With the rear seats folded, its comparison lists 66.5 cubic feet for the CX-5 and 45.2 for the CX-30.

Which one suits your passengers and routine?
Choose the CX-30 if a smaller footprint and lower starting price lead
- You usually drive alone or with one passenger and do not often need to carry adults in the back.
- Your regular cargo fits the smaller published cargo area.
- You prefer a shorter, narrower vehicle for your parking situation.
- You want the lower of Mazda’s two listed starting prices, while still comparing the equipment on the specific trims you would buy.
Choose the CX-5 if passengers or cargo need more room
- You regularly carry rear passengers and want to evaluate the larger vehicle in person for their needs.
- You transport bulky cargo or need more space behind the second row.
- You want more room available when the rear seats are folded.
- The higher starting price fits your budget and the CX-5’s trim equipment matches what you want.
Both models seat five according to Mazda, but seating capacity is not a measure of usable comfort. Bring the people who will ride in the back and check their fit directly.

Mazda’s 2026 CX-30 release describes a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder producing 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque, paired with a six-speed automatic; i-ACTIV all-wheel drive is standard. Mazda estimates 27 mpg combined for the base 2.5 S AWD automatic (24 city/31 highway).
Mazda’s 2026 CX-5 overview lists 26 mpg combined and identifies i-ACTIV AWD on the base trim. The available source information does not provide a directly comparable complete city/highway figure for that CX-5 configuration, so the combined estimates are not enough to establish which will deliver better fuel economy in your driving. Confirm the exact trim and drivetrain figures on Mazda’s current specifications pages, and treat estimates as distinct from real-world results.
