Kia lists the K4 LX at $22,290 starting MSRP and estimates 33 mpg combined for its non-turbo trims. If AWD is a must, investigate the K5: Kia lists a GT-Line AWD configuration, but AWD is not established as standard across the K5 lineup.

Why the K4 is the value-led starting point
The K4 is the smaller sedan in Kia’s lineup, and its lower published entry price makes it the natural first test drive if you are shopping on budget. Kia lists the 2026 K4 LX at $22,290 starting MSRP and the GT-Line Turbo at $28,390. Those are manufacturer suggested prices, not transaction prices; Kia says the K4 MSRP excludes destination, taxes, title, license, options and dealer charges. Compare local out-the-door quotes for the trims you would actually buy.

The K4’s five sedan trims are LX, LXS, EX, GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo. Kia rates the non-turbo LX, LXS, EX and GT-Line at 29 mpg city, 39 mpg highway and 33 mpg combined under EPA estimates. The GT-Line Turbo is rated at 26/33/28 mpg. Actual mileage varies, and these figures do not establish that the K4 is more efficient than a K5; the K5 estimate for the exact competing trim needs to be checked.

Engine choices in the K4
Kia specifies a 147-hp 2.0-liter engine for the non-turbo trims. The GT-Line Turbo uses a 1.6-liter turbo rated at 190 hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. The turbo version adds output, but its EPA estimates are lower than those of the non-turbo trims. Choose between them by driving the versions you can afford and deciding whether the added power matters more to you than the stated fuel-economy difference.
When the K5 deserves a closer look
If you require AWD, investigate the K5 first. Kia’s 2026 pricing announcement lists a GT-Line AWD configuration at $30,090, while its K5 specifications listing identifies 2.5-liter engines, including a 2.5-liter turbo in GT. That is not evidence that every K5 has AWD: verify the drivetrain on the exact trim and vehicle listing.
Kia lists the K5 LXS at $27,490. This is a useful price reference, not a direct like-for-like comparison with the K4 LX: trims can differ in equipment, and an AWD K5 configuration has a different price and drivetrain. Check each car’s standard features, options and local fees before treating the MSRP gap as the amount you will save.
How to choose between them
- Lean K4 if you want the lower published entry price, do not need AWD, and the K4’s engine and equipment meet your needs. The non-turbo K4’s 33 mpg combined figure is Kia’s 2026 EPA estimate, not a guarantee of real-world mileage.
- Investigate K5 if AWD is a requirement or you specifically want to consider its listed 2.5-liter engine lineup. Confirm the exact trim, drivetrain and price rather than assuming AWD is available on every version.
- Drive both exact trims if comfort, space or equipment could decide the purchase. The K4’s stated dimensions and trunk capacity do not settle how either car will feel to your passengers or suit your cargo.
What to compare before you buy
- Get local out-the-door prices. Ask for itemized quotes for the specific trims, including destination, taxes, title, license, dealer charges and options. MSRP alone is not a transaction price.
- Match the drivetrain and engine. Confirm whether the K5 is AWD and identify the engine in each car. Do not compare an AWD K5 with a K4 as if they were identical configurations.
- Check fuel economy by exact trim. Use the EPA estimate for the engine and drivetrain you are considering. Kia’s K4 estimates do not provide a head-to-head winner without a verified K5 figure.
- Compare included equipment. Review driver-assistance, comfort and convenience features on the actual trim sheets; the available figures here do not establish a complete equipment comparison.
- Test cabin and cargo use. Sit in the rear seat, check visibility, and see whether your usual luggage fits the trunk. Kia lists 38.0 inches of rear legroom and a 14.6-cu.-ft. trunk for the 2026 K4, but your own fit test is more useful than dimensions alone.
- Confirm availability. Check nearby inventory for the precise engine, drivetrain and features you want; availability can vary by dealer and location.
Kia’s U.S. sedan lineup page provides a starting point for browsing its sedans. Verify current specifications and prices with Kia and local dealers, since manufacturer pricing may change.
