The 2026 Kawasaki KLX300 starts at $5,649 before destination in the United States. For that price, Kawasaki lists a fuel-injected 292cc liquid-cooled single, a six-speed gearbox, full-size 21-inch front and 18-inch rear wheels, and adjustable suspension with 10.0 inches of front travel and 9.1 inches at the rear. Those specifications make a strong case for the KLX300 as an affordable, versatile dual-sport; they do not, by themselves, prove it outperforms rivals.

How much does a 2026 Kawasaki KLX300 cost?

Kawasaki lists the non-ABS 2026 KLX300 at $5,649 base MSRP and shows a $650 destination charge, for a displayed total of $6,299 before any dealer-specific charges. The page also lists another configuration at $5,849 base MSRP, or $6,499 with destination. Pricing is subject to change, and a dealer’s transaction price may differ. Check the current Kawasaki model page and get an out-the-door quote for the configuration you want.

For context, Kawasaki’s 2025 specification sheet listed a $5,449 MSRP. That is a prior-model-year figure, not the current 2026 price.

What does the KLX300 offer for the money?

Fuel-injected power and six speeds

The KLX300 uses a 292cc, four-stroke, DOHC, liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine with fuel injection through a 34mm Keihin throttle body. It has electric start and a six-speed transmission. Kawasaki publishes output of 25.0 hp at 8,000 rpm and 17.7 lb-ft of torque at 7,000 rpm. The company notes that its horsepower figure was measured under ISO 4106 and may be higher than a measurement using SAE standards, so it should not be compared directly with rivals’ figures unless the measurement standards match. The specifications and measurement note appear on Kawasaki’s 2026 specification sheet.

Full-size wheels and adjustable suspension

A 21-inch front wheel and 18-inch rear are familiar dual-sport dimensions, while the suspension provides substantial published travel: 10.0 inches at the front and 9.1 inches at the rear. The 43mm inverted fork has adjustable compression damping. At the rear, the Uni-Trak shock has a piggyback reservoir and adjustable compression and rebound damping, plus spring preload. Those are useful adjustment options on paper, but specifications alone cannot establish how comfortable or capable the bike feels on a particular road or trail.

Equipment and everyday details

Kawasaki lists an LED headlight, all-digital multifunction instrumentation, petal-disc brakes, and heat management intended to improve rider comfort. These are manufacturer-described features, not independent assessments of their performance.

What are the KLX300’s size, weight, and fuel capacity?

Kawasaki publishes a 35.2-inch seat height, 10.8 inches of ground clearance, 302.1 pounds curb weight, and 2.0 gallons of fuel capacity. It also lists an estimated dry weight of 282.2 pounds. These weight figures are not interchangeable: Kawasaki defines curb weight as including operating fluids and a more-than-90-percent-full fuel tank, while dry weight excludes operating materials and fluids. The definitions are in the 2026 specification sheet.

Is the KLX300 worth it?

It looks compelling if your priorities are a relatively accessible listed base price, fuel injection, a six-speed transmission, full-size dual-sport wheels, and suspension with adjustable damping and meaningful travel. Kawasaki’s specification bundle gives the bike a credible versatility case without requiring a claim that it is the class leader.

Whether it is worth buying depends on your fit and intended use, as well as the actual dealer price. The published seat height and curb weight are practical reasons to sit on the bike and, if possible, arrange a test ride before committing. Kawasaki’s specifications do not establish comparative ride quality, highway comfort, reliability, fuel economy, or a class-leading value advantage.

Is the KLX300 good for beginners?

It may suit some newer riders, but there is no universal skill-level answer. The 35.2-inch seat height can make stopping and putting a foot down difficult for riders who cannot comfortably reach the ground, and its published 302.1-pound curb weight is worth considering when maneuvering at low speeds. Evaluate your fit, confidence, training, and the riding conditions you expect to encounter rather than treating the model name or engine size as a beginner guarantee.

How far can a KLX300 go on a tank?

Kawasaki lists a 2.0-gallon fuel capacity, but the cited specifications do not establish a fuel-consumption figure or real-world range. Distance per tank varies with riding conditions and use, so tank capacity alone is not enough to calculate a dependable range.

How to judge the KLX300 against other dual-sports

A fair comparison needs current, aligned model years and consistent definitions. Compare out-the-door prices rather than mixing MSRP with dealer pricing; check how each maker defines weight; and look at seat height, tank capacity, suspension adjustment and travel, wheel sizes, and service intervals. Independent road and trail testing is needed to make grounded claims about handling, comfort, power delivery, or which bike is best for a particular rider. Kawasaki’s published specifications alone do not establish that the KLX300 is the lightest, most powerful, or best-suspended option in its class.
