Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a gas-only comparison, the 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander is the overall winner for shoppers who prioritize fuel economy and maximum cargo capacity. Toyota lists up to 28 combined mpg and 97.5 cu. ft. of cargo space with the rear seats folded; Hyundai lists 20–21 combined mpg for most gas Palisade configurations and 86.7 cu. ft. of maximum cargo volume. The Palisade remains a strong alternative if its lower displayed starting price, higher published horsepower or stated warranty better fits your priorities. This is a specification-based comparison, not a road test.
What’s being compared: gas models only
This comparison covers the conventional gas powertrains in the 2026 Hyundai Palisade and 2026 Toyota Grand Highlander. It excludes both manufacturers’ hybrid models. The figures are U.S.-market manufacturer specifications; availability, equipment and prices can vary by trim and location.
Hyundai’s 2026 Palisade page says its mileage figures are EPA estimates for comparison purposes. Toyota describes the Grand Highlander’s gas-model combined figure as a manufacturer estimate. Check the EPA label for the exact grade and drivetrain you are considering.

Why the Grand Highlander wins for most gas-SUV shoppers
It has the published fuel-economy advantage
Toyota’s gas Grand Highlander is listed at up to 28 combined mpg. The Palisade’s listed gas configurations range from 19 to 21 combined mpg, depending on drivetrain and trim. That makes the Grand Highlander the stronger pick on published combined fuel economy, though the Toyota’s maximum figure should not be assumed for every grade. Check the specific vehicle’s EPA label before comparing likely fuel use.
It offers more listed maximum cargo room
Toyota lists up to 97.5 cu. ft. with the rear seats folded, compared with Hyundai’s 86.7 cu. ft. with the second and third rows folded. Toyota’s July 2025 announcement also describes space for seven small roller bags with the rear seats up. Because the published maximum figures may depend on measurement configurations, treat them as a directional comparison rather than a precise real-world packing guarantee. Bring the items you regularly carry when evaluating either SUV.

Its towing maximum matches the Palisade’s
Both manufacturers publish a maximum towing capacity of up to 5,000 lb for gas configurations. Hyundai specifically says its maximum requires trailer brakes and that capacity varies by configuration. Confirm the exact vehicle’s equipment and towing limits before choosing a trailer.
Where the Palisade has the edge
Lower displayed starting price
Hyundai’s current page lists a $39,435 starting MSRP for the gas Palisade. Toyota’s price references are not a matched current comparison: its July 2025 launch announcement gave $41,360 for the gas LE FWD, while a current regional page displayed $42,260 as a starting MSRP. The pages reflect different dates and contexts, so they do not establish a precise current price gap. Manufacturer prices are not out-the-door quotes; compare the same kind of trim and drivetrain and request local pricing that accounts for fees, equipment and availability.

More published horsepower
The Palisade’s 3.5-liter V6 is listed at 287 hp, 22 hp above the Grand Highlander gas model’s 265-hp turbocharged four-cylinder. That is an advantage in stated output, not proof that the Palisade accelerates faster or feels stronger in every situation; those judgments require a direct drive and depend on factors beyond peak horsepower.
Hyundai states extensive warranty coverage, with conditions
Hyundai lists 5 years/60,000 miles of new-vehicle limited coverage and 10 years/100,000 miles of powertrain limited coverage. The powertrain term has original-owner and other eligibility conditions, so review Hyundai’s warranty terms for the vehicle and owner in question. Without a matching Toyota model-year warranty source, these figures do not establish which SUV has better coverage overall.

Which one should you choose?
- Choose the gas Grand Highlander if published fuel economy and maximum cargo volume are your leading priorities. It leads on both listed measures while matching the Palisade’s published maximum towing figure.
- Consider the gas Palisade if the lower displayed entry MSRP, higher published horsepower or Hyundai’s stated warranty terms matter more to you.
- For either SUV, compare the exact versions. Seating layouts, drivetrain, grade-specific fuel economy, towing equipment and local pricing can change the practical choice. Test the second-row arrangement and third-row fit with the people who will use them.
What these specifications do not tell you
The cited manufacturer information does not establish real-world fuel use, comparative acceleration, ride comfort, cabin noise, long-term reliability or total cost of ownership. Nor does it provide a matched current safety-rating comparison by model year, trim and build date. Hyundai’s page reports a 2026 IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+ designation for vehicles built after November 2025, but that alone is not enough to declare a safety winner against the Grand Highlander. Check current IIHS and NHTSA results for the exact model year and configuration before making a safety comparison.
