Hyundai Recall 297, NHTSA campaign 26V169, involves wiring in the third-row driver-side seat-belt buckle on certain 2026 Palisade and Palisade Hybrid Limited and Calligraphy models. The fault can make the dashboard show the belt as fastened when it is not, so occupants may not receive a warning. This is separate from the recent powered-seat recall, Hyundai Recall 296. Check your vehicle’s VIN in an official recall lookup to confirm whether it has an open campaign.
What is the different rear-seat issue?
NHTSA campaign 26V169, which Hyundai identifies as Recall 297, concerns internal wiring in the third-row driver-side seat-belt buckle. If the wiring is damaged, the instrument panel may indicate that the belt is buckled even when it is unfastened. NHTSA warns that a faulty status indicator may fail to alert occupants to an unfastened seat belt, increasing the risk of injury. NHTSA’s Recall 26V169 acknowledgement and Part 573 report describe the defect.
The concern is the buckle’s wiring and the resulting status indication—not a defect in the seat’s folding mechanism.
Which 2026 Palisades are potentially involved?
The recall names certain model-year 2026 Hyundai Palisade and Palisade Hybrid vehicles in Limited and Calligraphy trims. NHTSA’s Part 573 report lists 46,787 potentially involved vehicles across these production windows:

These are campaign population figures, not a count of vehicles confirmed to have the defect. Model year and trim alone do not establish that a particular vehicle is affected. Use the NHTSA VIN recall lookup or Hyundai’s official recall process to check for an open recall on your vehicle.
How is this different from the powered-seat recall?
The earlier campaign, NHTSA 26V160 or Hyundai Recall 296, concerns powered second- and third-row seats that may fail to detect a person or object and continue moving during powered seat operation. NHTSA says a person, especially a child, could become trapped. It is a separate defect with a separate remedy. NHTSA’s Recall 26V160 acknowledgement describes that campaign.

- Check the VIN. Look up your vehicle through NHTSA’s recall tool or Hyundai’s official recall process. An open recall record is the way to confirm eligibility for your specific vehicle.
- Follow the instructions for the listed campaign. If 26V169 or Recall 297 appears, contact Hyundai or an authorized dealer for campaign-specific repair details and next steps.
- Keep the campaigns separate. Do not treat the Recall 296 software instructions as the fix for the buckle-wiring issue. Hyundai’s Recall 296 information page describes that separate campaign.
The official information cited here does not establish Recall 297’s precise repair method, repair time, or current parts and appointment availability. A dealer or Hyundai’s current campaign record can provide the applicable repair instructions for an affected VIN.

This guidance applies only to Hyundai Recall 296, the powered-seat campaign. Hyundai says eligible vehicles with an active Bluelink subscription can receive an over-the-air update; owners can also arrange a no-charge dealer software update if they prefer not to use OTA or the update fails. Hyundai says the update changes seat operation, including requiring an open tailgate for stow and press-and-hold operation for the seat and cargo-fold switches.
