The 2026 Honda Ridgeline pairs a standard 280-hp V6 and all-wheel drive with a 5,000-pound maximum towing rating, a useful in-bed trunk and starting prices from $40,795 to $47,895. Its appeal is a blend of everyday cargo utility and standard powertrain equipment; whether it fits depends on your payload, trailer, off-road and budget needs. Honda’s published specifications do not establish that the Ridgeline is “underrated” by buyers or the market.

What the 2026 Ridgeline includes

Honda lists six U.S. trims for the 2026 model year: Sport, RTL, TrailSport, TrailSport with HPD wheels, Black Edition and Black Edition Two-Tone. Every listed trim has a 3.5-liter V6, a nine-speed automatic transmission and i-VTM4 all-wheel drive. The V6 makes 280 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 262 lb-ft of torque at 4,700 rpm, according to Honda’s 2026 specifications and features by trim.

That standard-equipment combination means shoppers choosing among Ridgeline trims are primarily weighing comfort, appearance, suspension and price—not selecting a more powerful engine or adding AWD. The specifications establish the equipment, but they do not by themselves establish acceleration, ride quality, fuel economy in everyday driving or off-road performance.

How much can a 2026 Honda Ridgeline tow?

Honda lists a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds across the trims. The company qualifies its towing capability as applying “when properly equipped,” so treat 5,000 pounds as a ceiling, not a guarantee that every trailer or loading arrangement is appropriate. See Honda’s towing capacity guidance.

Before towing, confirm the requirements for the specific vehicle and trailer combination, including the vehicle’s ratings and the trailer’s loaded weight. A tow rating does not tell you how much weight the truck can carry inside its cabin and bed.

Payload is a different limit

Honda lists payload capacity ranging from 1,509 to 1,583 pounds, depending on trim, in its 2026 Ridgeline specifications. Payload concerns weight carried by the vehicle: occupants, cargo and applicable load in the truck. Those pounds count even when the trailer is within its towing limit.

Use the payload information on the actual vehicle’s label when planning a load. The published trim range is useful for comparing versions, but it cannot substitute for the rating on the specific truck you are considering.

Bed storage and the in-bed trunk

The Ridgeline’s bed has 33.9 cubic feet of cargo volume, and its lockable in-bed trunk adds 7.3 cubic feet of enclosed storage, according to Honda’s specifications. A dual-action tailgate is also listed among the standard utility features. Together, those features give shoppers a way to separate some gear from the open bed; they do not change the truck’s payload rating.

How to decide whether it fits your needs

  • Compare payload with your normal load. Add occupants and the cargo you expect to carry, then check the specific truck’s label rather than relying only on the published trim range.
  • Match the trailer to the properly equipped vehicle. The 5,000-pound maximum is not a substitute for checking the loaded trailer, vehicle ratings and equipment for your particular setup.
  • Choose a trim by equipment, not engine output. Honda lists the same V6 and AWD across the range; RTL emphasizes comfort, TrailSport adds off-road-oriented hardware, and the Black Edition trims focus on appearance and cabin details.
  • Use EPA ratings as a comparison point. The listed ratings differ by one combined mpg between the TrailSport trims and the other listed trims; they are not observed results for your route or driving style.
  • Verify the purchase price and exact vehicle. Starting MSRP does not include every dealer, regional or transaction detail. Check current Honda pricing, the window sticker and a written out-the-door quote.

Honda’s specifications document a distinctive package of standard V6 power and AWD, bed storage and a 5,000-pound maximum tow rating. They do not establish market consensus that the Ridgeline is underrated, nor do they provide independent reliability, owner-satisfaction or road-test evidence. The sound buying decision is to judge the documented equipment against your actual load, trailer, driving and price requirements.
