Those published features make it a versatile middleweight cruiser on paper, but they do not prove it is the cheapest cruiser, comfortable for every rider or suited to every trip.
What the 2026 Rebel 500 costs in the U.S.
Honda lists the standard Rebel 500 at $6,799 MSRP and the Rebel 500 SE at $6,999 MSRP. Each price excludes a separately listed $600 destination charge, as well as dealer fees, tax, registration and insurance; Honda’s displayed totals including destination are $7,399 and $7,599 respectively. These are manufacturer-listed prices, not out-the-door quotes, and may change. Check Honda’s 2026 Rebel 500 page and ask a dealer for a current written quote.

The SE’s $200 higher base MSRP buys factory-installed appearance accessories, according to Honda; Honda does not identify a performance difference between the trims. ABS is standard on both.
What the SE adds—and what it does not
The SE is the more accessorized appearance package, not a documented mechanical upgrade. Honda identifies its brown diamond-stitch seat, black fork boots and color-matched headlight cowl as factory-installed special-edition accessories. The published core specifications and standard ABS apply to both versions. If the visual details matter to you, compare the two in person; the listed price difference alone does not establish that the SE seat will be more comfortable.

Engine, transmission and chassis
Honda’s 2026 U.S. specification lists a 471 cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke parallel twin with programmed fuel injection, DOHC and four valves per cylinder. Compression is 10.7:1. A six-speed manual transmission with a slipper clutch sends power through an O-ring-sealed chain, using 15-tooth and 40-tooth sprockets.

Honda defines curb weight as including standard equipment, required fluids and a full fuel tank. The 27.2-inch seat may help some riders get a foot down, but seat height alone cannot establish fit: rider inseam, seat width, balance and the motorcycle’s 414-pound curb weight also matter. The 3.0-gallon tank is a capacity figure, not a range estimate.

ABS, instruments and available accessories
Honda lists ABS as standard on both 2026 trims. The LCD display includes a speedometer, gear-position indicator, fuel gauge, clock and tripmeters. Honda’s model page lists more than 23 accessories for the Rebel line, including luggage solutions, passenger seating, a headlight cowl and a 12-volt accessory socket. Check the current listing and model-year fitment before buying an accessory.
Adding a passenger or luggage
Honda identifies passenger seating and rear footpegs as optional bolt-on equipment. The stock solo setup should not be treated as passenger-ready: install the appropriate passenger seat and footpegs, and follow the current owner’s manual’s instructions and limits before carrying anyone. The accessory page supports the availability of passenger and luggage options, but does not establish load capacity for a particular combination of riders and bags.

Where the “can do it all” claim holds—and where it stops
The Rebel’s low seat, modest-displacement twin, six-speed gearbox, standard ABS and accessory options give it a broad feature set for a cruiser in this price range. Those specifications can inform a shortlist for city riding, general road use or a customized setup. They cannot determine whether it will suit a particular rider, route or riding conditions, and “budget” here is relative framing based on Honda’s published starting price—not proof that it undercuts every cruiser.
- For a first motorcycle: The manageable-looking seat height and 471 cc engine may interest newer riders, but they do not establish beginner suitability. Consider training, licensing, protective gear, rider fit and your ability to control a 414-pound motorcycle before choosing.
- For highway use: The specifications do not establish tested highway comfort, top speed or how the bike behaves on a particular route. A test ride, where available, is a better way to assess posture, wind exposure and comfort.
- For longer trips: Honda lists a 3.0-gallon tank but the cited 2026 specification does not give tested fuel economy or a defensible range. Do not infer miles per tank from capacity alone.
- For two-up riding: Passenger seat and rear-footpeg accessories are listed, but rider-and-luggage load capacity is not established here. Confirm fitment and consult the current manual.
Colors, emissions and warranty
Honda lists Pearl Black and Pearl Smoky Gray for the standard model. The motorcycle meets current EPA standards; Honda notes that California versions meet current CARB standards and may differ slightly because of emissions equipment. Honda lists a transferable one-year limited warranty and says HondaCare protection is available separately.

Honda’s 2026 brochure advises riders to wear a helmet, eye protection and protective clothing, and not to ride after consuming drugs or alcohol. Choose properly fitting protective equipment appropriate to your riding and applicable safety standards.

Specifications and claims to verify before buying
- Confirm the dealer’s out-the-door price, including destination, dealer charges, taxes and registration.
- Check that the quoted motorcycle is the 2026 U.S. model and whether it is the standard or SE trim.
- Verify model-year fitment for passenger seating, footpegs, luggage and any electrical accessory.
- Assess rider fit and comfort in person; published seat height is not a substitute for trying the motorcycle.
