The 2026 Honda Civic Hybrid comes in two trims—Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid—and two body styles, sedan and hatchback. The sedan costs less and has a one-mpg-higher EPA combined estimate; the hatchback costs $1,200 more in either comparable trim. Choose between Sport and Sport Touring based on whether the latter’s added cabin, audio and technology features are worth a $3,000 MSRP premium, then check the exact vehicle’s sticker, written price and VIN-specific campaign status before signing.
Which 2026 Civic models are hybrids?
For the US-market 2026 Civic, Honda lists two hybrid trims in each body style: Sport Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid. The sedan specification sheet lists a 200-horsepower total system output for both trims, using a 1,993 cc Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine and a two-motor hybrid system. Both sedan hybrids are front-wheel drive. Honda’s sedan page describes the hybrid powertrain and trim features; verify the actual car’s equipment against its window sticker and VIN rather than assuming every feature carries across body styles.

The sedan’s published equipment and specifications are described in Honda’s 2026 Civic Sedan trims and features and 2026 Civic Sedan Specifications & Features. The price and EPA figures below are from American Honda’s September 9, 2026 releases, the latest pricing releases covered here.
When shopping, keep the body style and trim in the name of every listing you compare. A Sport Hybrid sedan and a Sport Touring Hybrid hatchback are not interchangeable just because both carry the Civic Hybrid name. Confirm the model year, body style, trim and VIN on the car itself and its original window sticker. That small step also helps prevent a seller’s abbreviated listing or a copied feature description from steering you toward the wrong equipment.

2026 Civic Hybrid prices and EPA fuel-economy estimates
Use destination-inclusive TSRP for a closer starting comparison between listings, but do not mistake it for the amount due at the dealership. The September 9, 2026 releases list a $1,295 destination charge. TSRP excludes taxes, registration, options and other charges; dealer prices may vary. MSRP is shown separately below, without destination.
| Body style and trim | MSRP | TSRP with destination | EPA city/highway/combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sedan Sport Hybrid | $29,395 | $30,690 | 50 / 47 / 49 mpg |
| Sedan Sport Touring Hybrid | $32,395 | $33,690 | 50 / 47 / 49 mpg |
| Hatchback Sport Hybrid | $30,595 | $31,890 | 50 / 45 / 48 mpg |
| Hatchback Sport Touring Hybrid | $33,595 | $34,890 | 50 / 45 / 48 mpg |
These are EPA estimates published by Honda, not a promise of what an individual owner will achieve. Honda says actual mileage varies with driving, maintenance, conditions and other factors. The sedan’s published combined rating is one mpg higher than the hatchback’s; both are rated at 50 mpg city. See Honda’s 2026 Civic Sedan pricing and EPA ratings and 2026 Civic Hatchback pricing and EPA ratings.
The table makes the price differences straightforward: within either body style, moving from Sport Hybrid to Sport Touring Hybrid adds $3,000 to MSRP and $3,000 to destination-inclusive TSRP. Choosing the hatchback instead of the sedan adds $1,200 at either Hybrid trim level. The sedan’s combined estimate is 49 mpg, versus 48 mpg for the hatchback, while the city estimate is the same at 50 mpg. Highway estimates are 47 mpg for the sedan and 45 mpg for the hatchback.
Those ratings are useful for comparing the configurations on a consistent basis, but they do not predict an exact fuel bill. Driving patterns, conditions and maintenance can affect actual mileage. If fuel economy is central to the decision, consider how much of your own driving is city or highway use and use a realistic estimate for your routine rather than assuming you will match the EPA combined number.
The sedan’s non-hybrid LX and Sport are rated at 36 and 34 mpg combined, respectively, in Honda’s September 2026 release. Those figures can offer a broad efficiency reference, but they are not a direct trim-to-trim comparison with the Hybrid models. The figures do not supply a complete purchase-cost or ownership-cost comparison, so do not infer a payback period from MPG alone.
Sport Hybrid or Sport Touring Hybrid?
Within either body style, the Sport Touring Hybrid has a $3,000 higher MSRP than the Sport Hybrid. Both sedan hybrid trims have the same stated 200-hp system output and the same EPA fuel-economy estimates, so the trim decision is principally about equipment and the price you are willing to pay for it—not a published power or MPG difference.
What the Sport Hybrid includes
Honda’s 2026 sedan page lists a one-touch power moonroof, heated front seats and dual-zone automatic climate control on the Sport Hybrid. Confirm the window sticker for the individual vehicle, particularly if you are looking at a dealer listing or comparing a hatchback with a sedan.

If they are not priorities, weigh the Sport Hybrid’s lower starting price against the Sport Touring equipment you would otherwise be paying for. The point is not that one trim is universally better; it is whether the equipment and price of the exact car match your needs.

What Sport Touring adds
Honda identifies Google built-in, leather-trimmed seats, a Bose Premium Sound System and wireless Apple CarPlay compatibility among the Sport Touring Hybrid’s added features. If you use these features regularly, assess them in the car: test the audio and seating, check how the phone connects, and confirm that the infotainment setup suits your routine. If they are not worth the $3,000 MSRP difference to you, the Sport Hybrid retains the same stated sedan hybrid power and EPA estimates.
Think through those features individually instead of treating the higher trim as an automatic upgrade. Sit in the seats long enough to judge their comfort and trim, listen to audio at a normal volume, and try the phone connection you expect to use. Check the vehicle’s infotainment controls and confirm how the listed Google built-in and Apple CarPlay features are described on that car’s sticker. This makes the premium a concrete equipment decision rather than a guess based on the trim name.
That is not a complete equipment inventory for both body styles. Use the exact vehicle’s original window sticker to confirm options and standard equipment instead of transferring a feature list from a different configuration.
Sedan or hatchback: how to choose
In the September 2026 Honda pricing releases, each hatchback Hybrid trim is $1,200 higher in MSRP than its sedan counterpart. The hatchback’s published EPA combined estimate is 48 mpg, compared with 49 mpg for the sedan. In return, the hatchback body style offers a different rear opening and cargo-access shape; whether that works better depends on what you carry and how you load it. The sources cited here do not establish independently verified cargo-volume measurements, so compare actual fit in person rather than relying on an unsupported capacity number.
- Consider the sedan if its body shape suits your parking, passenger and cargo needs, or if the lower price and one-mpg-higher combined estimate matter most.
- Consider the hatchback if its access and body shape make loading your usual items easier enough to justify the $1,200 MSRP difference and the lower published combined estimate.
- Test the specific configuration by bringing a representative item or measuring the space you need. Check the rear opening, loading height and the space available with the seats in the position you normally use.
Think of this as a trade-off, not a simple efficiency-versus-utility verdict. The published numbers establish the price and EPA-rating differences; they do not say how well a stroller, suitcase, sports gear or other item will fit your routine. If cargo access is the reason you are considering the hatchback, test that reason directly at the dealership. If not, the sedan’s lower MSRP and slightly higher combined estimate may be the more relevant distinctions.
How to compare the real purchase price
A published MSRP or TSRP is not an out-the-door offer. The releases’ TSRP includes destination but excludes taxes, registration, options and other charges, and Honda says dealer prices may vary. Compare written offers for the exact VIN, not monthly payments that may reflect different loan terms or down payments.
MSRP is the vehicle’s listed price before the destination charge. TSRP in Honda’s September 9, 2026 releases adds the $1,295 destination charge, but it is still not a complete amount due. Taxes, registration, options and other charges are outside that published TSRP figure. For example, the Sedan Sport Hybrid is listed at $29,395 MSRP and $30,690 TSRP; the $1,295 difference is destination. Your itemized dealer quote should make clear what else is being added and which amounts are required in your transaction.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches- Identify the exact car. Record the VIN, model year, body style and trim from the vehicle and its original window sticker. Confirm that the online listing describes that same vehicle.
- Request an itemized written quote. Ask the dealer to show the vehicle price, destination, dealer-installed accessories or add-ons, taxes, title and registration as separate amounts.
- Compare like with like. Use the same trim, body style and price basis for each offer. Do not compare one dealer’s MSRP with another’s destination-inclusive TSRP or out-the-door total.
- Review add-ons and terms separately. Decide whether accessories or other additions are wanted, and evaluate financing terms independently of the vehicle price.
- Save the final paperwork. Keep the itemized offer and confirm that the agreed VIN and equipment match the vehicle delivered.
A monthly payment is not a substitute for comparing the vehicle price. It can change when the down payment, loan length or other financing terms change, even if the listed car is identical. First compare the out-the-door totals and the cars themselves; then review the financing terms separately. If a quote includes a dealer-installed accessory or other add-on, ask what it is, whether you want it and how it affects the total.

What to inspect and test-drive
A trim label does not substitute for checking the car itself. A focused inspection helps you confirm that the vehicle is the configuration you intend to buy and that its everyday controls suit you. These are buyer checks, not claims of a test or independent vehicle assessment.
Confirm identity and equipment
- Match the VIN on the vehicle and paperwork, and confirm the model year, sedan or hatchback body, and Sport Hybrid or Sport Touring Hybrid trim.
- Compare the actual equipment with the original window sticker. Pay particular attention to features you are paying extra for, such as leather-trimmed seats, Bose audio, Google built-in or wireless Apple CarPlay compatibility.
- Check that the physical condition and included equipment are consistent with the dealer’s description and written offer.
Use the VIN and sticker together: the seller’s trim label is a useful starting point, but it is not enough to verify the equipment you will receive. Check whether features you expect are listed for that configuration and confirm that the paperwork names the same vehicle. If anything in an online listing, window sticker or written offer conflicts, ask the dealer to resolve it before you agree to buy.
Evaluate the drive for your own routine
On a route resembling your regular driving, assess seat comfort, sightlines, road noise, braking feel, infotainment and phone pairing, and driver-assistance behavior. Try the controls you expect to use often and make sure their operation feels clear to you. A brief drive cannot establish long-term reliability or guarantee the EPA estimate in your own use; no independently measured owner-mileage or long-term reliability figure is established by the sources cited here.
For a useful test drive, spend time both on the kind of roads you use most and in the situations that tend to matter in your commute, where practical. Note whether the seating position and visibility work for you, whether braking feels comfortable, and whether common controls are easy to find. Try the infotainment and phone connection rather than relying only on a feature list. These checks help you assess personal fit; they should not be mistaken for a long-term assessment of ownership or fuel economy.
Check recalls and the PCU radiator guard update by VIN
Before signing, check the exact VIN for open safety recalls and applicable product updates. A published bulletin or recall document does not mean every Civic Hybrid is affected; applicability and completion are vehicle-specific. Ask the dealer to document completed work and provide the repair order.
Check the VIN through Honda’s recall lookup and NHTSA’s recall tools, and ask the dealer to verify any applicable product update as well. Keep the repair order or other documentation for completed work. A bulletin is not itself proof that a particular vehicle is eligible, and the existence of a recall document does not establish that all vehicles of a model year are included.
Service Bulletin 26-026: PCU radiator guard
American Honda’s April 3, 2026 Service Bulletin 26-026 concerns inspection and an update to the PCU radiator guard for eligible 2025–26 Civic Hybrids. The bulletin says roadway debris may damage the PCU radiator, potentially causing malfunction indicator lights and reduced hybrid-system performance. Honda states, “The current PCU Radiator Guard does not provide adequate protection.” That is the bulletin’s explanation for a VIN-eligible product update, not evidence that every 2026 Civic Hybrid has suffered damage. Ask the dealer to check eligibility by VIN and whether the update has been completed; retain any repair order. The bulletin is available as a PDF hosted by NHTSA.

It does not say that every eligible vehicle has experienced those symptoms. Have the dealer show the vehicle’s campaign status and document completed work rather than relying on a general statement about the model.

Safety recall documents are not universal applicability notices
A separate Honda recall document hosted by NHTSA covers certain 2025 Civic Hybrid vehicles. It does not establish that a 2026 vehicle—or every 2025 vehicle—is included. Check the specific VIN through Honda’s or NHTSA’s recall lookup and ask the dealer to show the status and any completed repair. The document is Honda’s safety recall document 24V763.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the published figures can—and cannot—tell you
The listed prices, trim names, stated sedan hybrid system output and EPA ratings are useful for narrowing the configuration and comparing official figures. They do not answer every ownership question. The sources cited here do not establish an independently measured real-world mileage result, a long-term reliability statistic, or independently verified cargo-volume measurements. Treat EPA mileage as a comparison estimate, assess cargo fit and comfort with the car in person, and rely on VIN-specific records for campaign status.
Similarly, the available official price figures are starting points, not a promise of the dealer’s final price. Destination-inclusive TSRP is more comparable than MSRP alone when comparing listings, but neither figure includes every transaction cost. Obtain an itemized written out-the-door quote for the exact VIN and review the terms, accessories and charges before comparing offers.

2025 Civic Hybrid versus 2026: what should shoppers compare?
Shoppers often ask whether there is a big difference between the 2025 and 2026 Civic Hybrid. The 2026 prices, equipment and EPA ratings in this guide are specific to Honda’s September 9, 2026 releases and the cited 2026 sedan information. They do not establish a complete year-over-year comparison or identify every change from 2025. For a used or leftover 2025, compare that exact car’s model year, body style, trim, original window sticker, price and VIN-specific campaign status rather than assuming its features or price match a 2026.
For either model year, check whether Service Bulletin 26-026 applies by VIN: Honda describes it as concerning eligible 2025–26 Civic Hybrids. That does not mean it applies to every car in those years. Do not make a purchase decision from a model-year label alone; have the dealer confirm the individual vehicle’s status and document work.

What does Sport Touring add over Sport Hybrid?

Does every 2026 Civic Hybrid need the PCU radiator guard update?
No. American Honda Service Bulletin 26-026, dated April 3, 2026, concerns eligible 2025–26 Civic Hybrids, and eligibility is VIN-specific. Ask a Honda dealer to check the VIN and document whether the update applies and whether it has been completed.
Does the 2025 Civic Hybrid recall document apply to every Civic Hybrid?
No. Honda’s NHTSA-hosted recall document 24V763 covers certain 2025 Civic Hybrid vehicles; it does not establish that every 2025 car or any particular 2026 car is included. Check the VIN through Honda or NHTSA recall tools.

Should I compare MSRP, TSRP or monthly payments?
Use the same price basis across offers. Honda’s TSRP includes the $1,295 destination charge but excludes taxes, registration, options and other charges, so it is not an out-the-door total. Compare itemized written out-the-door offers for the exact VIN, then evaluate financing terms separately from the vehicle price.
Can I count on getting the EPA combined MPG in everyday driving?
No. The published EPA figures are comparison estimates. Honda says actual mileage varies with driving, maintenance, conditions and other factors. The cited official figures do not establish an independently measured owner-mileage result.
Is the hatchback’s cargo capacity larger than the sedan’s?
The cited specifications do not establish independently verified cargo-volume measurements. The hatchback has a different rear opening and cargo-access shape, so test the fit of the items you carry rather than relying on an unsupported capacity number.
What should I check on a Civic Hybrid before signing?
Match the VIN, year, body style and trim to the original window sticker and written quote; inspect the features and condition; test the seating, sightlines, braking feel, infotainment, phone pairing and driver-assistance behavior; compare itemized pricing; and check the VIN for open recalls and applicable product updates.

The Bottom Line
The 2026 Civic Hybrid lineup is simple to compare on paper: Sport Hybrid or Sport Touring Hybrid, sedan or hatchback. The Sport Touring costs $3,000 more within a body style; the hatchback costs $1,200 more than the sedan and carries a one-mpg-lower EPA combined estimate.
