What the AT4 adds over Elevation
Factory lift and wider track
The AT4’s 2-inch factory-installed lift and ultra-wide track are the most visible chassis distinctions in GMC’s listed equipment. They are part of the trim’s factory configuration rather than a buyer’s separate aftermarket modification.

Four-wheel drive and trail hardware
AT4 includes 4WD, an automatic-locking rear differential, a two-speed Autotrac transfer case and a transfer-case shield. It also adds Advanced Hill Descent Control and Normal, Terrain, Tow/Haul and Off-Road modes. Elevation’s standard list includes an off-road performance display, but GMC does not list 4WD as standard on Elevation.
MultiStow tailgate
The MultiStow tailgate system is included with AT4 and available on Elevation. If that storage feature matters, compare the cost and availability of the option on the particular Elevation build against the quoted AT4.

Is the AT4 worth the higher starting price?
The starting-price gap is $6,600, calculated from GMC’s listed prices. That is not necessarily the difference between two similarly equipped trucks: the final comparison depends on options, destination, dealer charges and the exact vehicles being quoted. GMC’s published equipment list supports a use-case decision, not a claim that every optioned Elevation is cheaper or equivalent to an AT4.
- Elevation fits the lower-price priority: Start here if you do not require standard 4WD and would rather pay for the equipment you specifically want than move to AT4’s listed off-road package.
- AT4 fits the factory-equipment priority: Its higher starting price buys the listed lift, 4WD, differential, transfer case, protective shield, hill-descent control and drive modes as part of the trim.
- Compare actual builds before deciding: Ask for written quotes for the same model year and relevant options, and check whether the desired equipment is available on Elevation rather than assuming it can be added.
Check the tow rating and the exact truck
GMC advertises up to 7,700 pounds of maximum towing for the Canyon, but that is a lineup maximum, not a confirmed rating for every Elevation or AT4. Match the rating to the truck’s configuration and equipment, then compare it with the trailer you plan to tow. Confirm the model year, included options and tow equipment on the current build information or window sticker before relying on a listing.
