The best choice depends on the exact trim and what you want from a sports car. Ford’s published specifications cover the 2026 Mustang, while the Chevrolet materials here cover the 2024 Camaro—so this is not a same-model-year comparison. The specs show a broad Mustang range and distinct Camaro configurations, but they do not prove which car is faster or more fun to drive. Check the specific car’s trim, options, condition, and availability before deciding.
First, account for the model-year difference
Ford’s official pages describe the 2026 Mustang. Chevrolet’s available product sheets describe the 2024 Camaro LT and ZL1; Cars.com likewise pairs a 2024 Camaro with a 2026 Mustang in its comparison. Those materials establish specifications for those model years, not whether new Camaros are currently being produced or are available at a particular dealer. Ford’s 2026 Mustang specifications, Chevrolet’s 2024 Camaro LT sheet and Cars.com’s year-specific comparison make the distinction clear.

For a buyer, that means comparing a current-model-year Mustang with a Camaro whose documented specifications are from 2024. Confirm whether a Camaro listing is for a new or used car, and verify its model year and condition directly. The available material does not establish present-day inventory.
Performance: compare trim with trim, not nameplate with nameplate
Both cars span very different power levels. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent acceleration or track-test results. Ford specifies 93-octane fuel for the Mustang horsepower figures below.

| Model and trim | Engine | Manufacturer-listed output |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Ford Mustang EcoBoost | 2.3L | 315 hp, 350 lb-ft |
| 2026 Ford Mustang GT | 5.0L V8 | 480 hp, 415 lb-ft |
| 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse | 5.0L V8 | 500 hp, 418 lb-ft |
| 2026 Ford Mustang Dark Horse SC | 5.2L supercharged V8 | 795 hp, 660 lb-ft |
| 2024 Chevrolet Camaro LT | 3.6L V6 | 335 hp; torque not stated in the reviewed LT sheet |
| 2024 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 | Supercharged 6.2L V8 | 650 hp, 650 lb-ft |
Ford lists the outputs on its 2026 Mustang model comparison page; Chevrolet lists Camaro LT specifications in its 2024 Camaro LT sheet and ZL1 specifications in its 2024 Camaro ZL1 sheet.
The useful comparison depends on your shortlist. The EcoBoost and Camaro LT are the lower-output examples in these materials, though they use different engines. The Mustang GT and Dark Horse offer two V8 output levels; the Camaro ZL1 is another high-output V8 configuration. The Dark Horse SC’s listed output is higher than the ZL1’s, but horsepower alone does not establish which car accelerates quicker, brakes better, or posts a faster lap. The reviewed sources do not include matched independent tests for those measures.

Transmission: verify the individual car’s configuration
Manual and automatic choices appear in the manufacturer material, but transmission availability varies by trim and configuration.
- Mustang GT: Ford lists a standard six-speed manual with rev matching and an available 10-speed automatic on its 2026 Mustang performance page.
- 2024 Camaro LT and ZL1: Chevrolet’s product sheets list a standard six-speed manual and an available 10-speed automatic. Check the specific trim and vehicle listing to confirm what is fitted.
If a manual is central to your choice, confirm the transmission by VIN or window sticker rather than assuming every trim has the same options.

Body style and cabin features
The 2024 Camaro LT material lists coupe and convertible body styles and three LT trims: 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT. It lists heated and ventilated front seats for the 2LT and 3LT. Chevrolet also lists a standard 7-inch touchscreen, with 8-inch systems available, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability. These are model-sheet features; equipment can differ by trim and vehicle.
Ford’s 2026 Mustang page describes selected convertible variants and a digital display setup that includes a 12.4-inch instrument cluster and 13.2-inch touchscreen on specified models. Do not assume those screens or a convertible body are standard across the entire Mustang range; check the exact trim and configuration on Ford’s model information. For either car, compare the actual vehicle’s equipment and confirm device compatibility and any connected-service requirements.

There is no objective fun score in the available specifications. Your answer may depend more on the configuration and the way you use the car than on the badge.

- You may lean toward a Camaro if you find a 2024 LT or ZL1 with the engine, body style, transmission, and features you want. The LT sheets include coupe and convertible forms, while the ZL1 is the supercharged V8 configuration covered by Chevrolet’s separate product sheet.
- For spirited road or track use, compare the exact car’s tires, brakes, options, and condition, and seek comparable independent tests for the performance measure that matters to you. The specifications alone cannot settle a handling or lap-time contest.
What the available comparison cannot settle
The reviewed sources do not provide matched transaction prices, current used-car prices, dealer incentives, or insurance costs. They also do not provide a complete, matched fuel-economy comparison: Chevrolet lists EPA-estimated figures for specific Camaro trims, while the reviewed Mustang comparison material does not establish equivalent data across the range. If fuel use matters, compare the exact configurations using current official EPA information rather than drawing a winner from partial figures.

Likewise, there are no matched independent 0–60 mph, quarter-mile, braking, or lap-time results here. Treat the engine outputs as manufacturer claims for named model years and trims—not as proof of on-road superiority.
