The 2026 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat is rated at 710 hp—not exactly 700—and starts at $79,995 before options, taxes and fees. It pairs a supercharged V8 and all-wheel drive with three rows, but its 12-mpg combined rating, premium-fuel requirement and limited luggage space behind an occupied third row make it a specialized family choice rather than an easy all-purpose recommendation.
What does the 2026 Durango Hellcat offer for the price?
Dodge lists a starting U.S. MSRP of $79,995 for the 2026 SRT Hellcat. That is a starting price, not a guaranteed transaction price: equipment, dealer pricing, taxes and fees affect what a buyer pays. Stellantis said the 2026 Durango was available to order in all 50 states in its March 24, 2026 release. How quick and powerful is the Durango Hellcat?
Dodge rates the Hellcat’s supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V8 at 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque, sent through all-wheel drive. Dodge claims a 0–60 mph time of 3.5 seconds; that is a manufacturer figure, not an independent test result. The power is extraordinary for a three-row SUV, but it matters most to families who will actively value the performance rather than simply carry passengers and belongings. Dodge’s 2026 performance specifications list the engine and acceleration claim.
Is the Dodge Durango Hellcat a good family SUV?
It can work for a family that needs three rows and wants V8 performance, but seat count and family practicality are not the same thing. Dodge describes a six-person layout with second-row captain’s chairs. Its SRT page lists 17 cu ft of cargo space, while the full lineup overview advertises up to 85.1 cu ft with seats folded. Those figures describe different seating configurations; maximum folded-seat capacity does not tell you how much luggage fits when everyone is aboard. What fits behind the occupied third row?
Independent observations give a more useful, though not directly interchangeable, picture. Cars.com measured 9.4 cu ft behind the third row in a 2025 Durango. In its review of a 2026 Hellcat, Car and Driver reported fitting four carry-on suitcases behind the third row. The first is a volume measurement from a different model year; the second is a luggage-fit observation on the 2026 Hellcat, not a standardized volume figure. Bring your stroller, sports gear or usual travel bags to a test drive and check the space with the third row upright. Can it tow a family trailer?
Dodge advertises towing capacity of up to 8,700 lb when properly equipped. Treat that as a maximum manufacturer figure, not an automatic allowance for every Hellcat or every loaded family trip. Check the individual vehicle’s tow equipment, payload, occupants and trailer limits before deciding what it can safely tow. Dodge’s performance page states the maximum and equipment qualification.

How many miles per gallon does a Durango Hellcat get?
Dodge’s 2026 FAQ lists 12 mpg combined for the Hellcat and says the 6.2-liter requires premium gasoline rated at 91 octane or higher for optimal performance. The Drive reports EPA figures of 12 city, 17 highway and 13 combined mpg for the 2026 model. In its own test, The Drive recorded 13.7 mpg over a 307-mile mixed suburban drive; that is the publication’s observed result on its test vehicle, not a promise for other drivers or routes. Dodge’s FAQ and The Drive’s 2026 review distinguish the manufacturer information from the publication’s test.
Fuel use is a substantial family-ownership trade-off: frequent school runs, commuting and road trips mean more time at the pump than in a more economical three-row vehicle, and premium fuel adds another cost. Your actual fuel bill depends on mileage, driving conditions and local fuel prices.

What is the Durango’s safety rating?
Dodge’s FAQ reports that the 2025 Durango received a four-star overall NHTSA rating, with four stars for frontal crash and rollover and five stars for side crash. That is a rating for the 2025 Durango; it should not be read as a confirmed 2026 Hellcat-specific crash result. The same FAQ lists standard 2026 equipment including blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path detection, a backup camera, stability control and brake assist. Confirm the exact equipment on the vehicle you are considering, and check for current model-year crash information rather than carrying a prior-year score forward. Dodge’s FAQ is the source for both the reported 2025 rating and the 2026 equipment list.

The Hellcat makes the strongest case for a family that wants a three-row, all-wheel-drive SUV with exceptional V8 power, has a real use for towing, and is prepared for premium fuel and a high starting price. It is a weaker fit for households whose top priorities are generous luggage capacity with all seats occupied, low fuel consumption, or a published crash rating specific to the 2026 Hellcat.

Before choosing it over another three-row SUV, compare the details that change day-to-day family use: third-row access and comfort for your passengers, actual cargo room with that row raised, fuel economy and required fuel grade, current model-year crash results and driver-assistance equipment, transaction price, and the tow rating and equipment of the specific vehicle. The available figures here do not establish that the Hellcat beats any particular rival on those measures.
