Chevrolet’s U.S. specifications page currently lists the 2026 Silverado 2500HD at $46,200 starting and $82,070 as shown. The truck is available with a 6.6L gas V8 or 6.6L Duramax diesel V8, but towing capacity depends on the exact cab, bed, drivetrain, engine and equipment. Use the applicable row in Chevrolet’s 2026 trailering chart before choosing a truck or trailer.
How much does the 2026 Silverado 2500HD cost?
Chevrolet’s dedicated U.S. specifications page currently displays a $46,200 starting price and an $82,070 as-shown price for the 2026 Silverado 2500HD. These are manufacturer-displayed figures, not a dealer quote or a guarantee of local transaction prices. The as-shown figure reflects a particular configuration; it is not the price of every trim.
Chevrolet’s HD overview page gives a different starting figure in its FAQ: $48,195. The pages do not explain the discrepancy. For the currently displayed starting price, the dedicated specs page is the clearest reference; confirm the exact truck’s price through Chevrolet’s live inventory or a local dealer.
What trims and configurations are available?
Chevrolet lists WT, Custom, LT, LTZ, ZR2 and High Country trims across the Silverado HD lineup. Equipment differs by trim and build. Chevrolet describes the WT with a 6.6L gas engine and trailering equipment, the LT with larger infotainment and driver displays, and the ZR2 with off-road hardware. Features shown as available should not be assumed standard on every 2500HD.

What engines are available?
Chevrolet lists two V8 choices for the 2026 Silverado 2500HD. Both are paired with a 10-speed Allison automatic transmission.
| Engine | Chevrolet-listed output |
|---|---|
| 6.6L gas V8 | 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque |
| Available 6.6L Duramax turbo-diesel V8 | 470 hp and 975 lb-ft of torque |
The diesel’s higher listed torque may suit buyers prioritizing heavy trailer work, while the gas engine is the alternative in the lineup. The published figures alone do not establish fuel economy, operating costs or real-world performance; Chevrolet’s cited pages provide specifications, not independent test results.

How much can a 2026 Silverado 2500HD tow?
Chevrolet’s overview page contains two different model-specific headline figures: up to 22,070 lb for a Crew Cab in its overview section and up to 22,420 lb for the 2500HD in its FAQ. The page does not reconcile them. Do not treat either number as the rating for every 2500HD.
The same overview advertises HD-wide maximum trailering figures of 19,080 lb for gas and 36,000 lb for diesel. These are Silverado HD lineup claims, not 2500HD-specific ratings. For the 2500HD, check the applicable configuration in the 2026 Silverado 2500HD trailering chart, which separates ratings by cab, bed, drive, engine and other factors, including conventional and fifth-wheel/gooseneck trailering.
Rank #4
Chevrolet says the chart’s ratings are for comparison and directs buyers to the Owner’s Manual before purchase or towing. Its warning is explicit: “The weight of passengers, cargo and options or accessories may reduce the amount you can trailer.” The truck’s actual capacity can vary, so match the specific vehicle and intended trailer rather than relying on a headline maximum.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to match a truck to a trailer
- Choose the trailer connection type. Determine whether the trailer will be towed conventionally or with a fifth-wheel/gooseneck setup; use the corresponding chart section.
- Identify the exact truck build. Match cab, bed, 2WD or 4×4, engine, wheels and weight-rating combination to the chart row.
- Account for the loaded truck. Passengers, cargo, options and accessories reduce available trailer capacity. Check payload and combined loading against the vehicle’s documentation as well as the trailer rating.
- Verify hitch equipment and fit. For fifth-wheel or gooseneck towing, confirm the truck’s prep equipment and hitch compatibility, then verify the loaded trailer and truck remain within their ratings.
- Confirm before buying or towing. Review the Owner’s Manual and the exact vehicle’s documentation; the comparison chart is not a substitute for those limits.
Which 2500HD should you compare?
Start with the job the truck must do, then compare the actual build rather than the trim name alone. A work-focused WT, a comfort- or technology-oriented trim, and the off-road-oriented ZR2 address different priorities; options and configuration affect both price and capability. Narrow the choice by engine, cab and bed, then verify the trailer rating and local price for that precise truck.
