The 2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV starts at a lower advertised price, but the better value depends on the exact trim, drivetrain, fees and charging setup. Range is close across several versions: Chevrolet lists 319 EPA-estimated miles for the front-wheel-drive Equinox EV, while Tesla lists 321 miles for the Model Y RWD and up to 327 miles for the Premium RWD. Those figures are not a substitute for comparing like-for-like configurations or real-world road-trip charging.
2026 Equinox EV vs. Model Y: the key differences
These are manufacturer-published figures for US 2026 model-year vehicles. Range is EPA-estimated, prices are advertised starting figures rather than out-the-door quotes, and charging claims use different measures. Chevrolet’s direct comparison is specifically between Equinox EV LT 2 and Model Y Premium RWD; it is not an entry-trim comparison.

How do Equinox EV and Model Y range compare?
There is no single range figure for either nameplate. Chevrolet lists 319 EPA-estimated miles for the 2026 Equinox EV with FWD and 307 with available AWD. Tesla lists 321 miles for Model Y RWD, 294 for AWD, 327 for Premium RWD, 294 for Premium AWD and 306 for Performance AWD. On the published estimates, the FWD Equinox EV and base Model Y RWD are close; several Tesla trims have materially different estimates from one another.

EPA estimates are useful for comparing configurations, but they do not guarantee a particular trip distance. Speed, temperature, terrain, wheels, cabin heating or cooling and the driver’s charging buffer affect usable range. Tesla cautions that real-world range may vary. For a route you drive regularly, consider the conditions and charging stops you actually expect, rather than treating the highest published number as a promise.
Which one is cheaper, and what does the price include?
Chevrolet advertises the 2026 Equinox EV at a $34,995 starting price. Tesla’s current US configurator lists the 2026 Model Y RWD vehicle price at $39,990 before destination and order fees. These are different price bases, and neither number by itself establishes the delivered cost. Taxes, options, destination or order fees, dealer charges, incentives, financing and local offers can change the amount you pay.

A closer trim comparison
Chevrolet’s comparison page pairs the 2026 Equinox EV LT 2, starting at $41,795, with the 2026 Tesla Model Y Premium RWD, starting at $44,990. That is a more specific comparison than setting the Equinox’s advertised entry price against Tesla’s RWD vehicle price. It remains Chevrolet’s promotional comparison, so use it as a trim reference rather than an independent finding that one vehicle is universally better value.
To compare prices fairly, select the same model year and the drivetrain and equipment you want, then compare current written quotes on the same basis. Add applicable taxes and fees and account for any incentive only after confirming your eligibility. The cited figures do not establish a complete ownership-cost winner: energy rates, home-charger equipment and installation, insurance, maintenance, financing and resale are not included.

What is different about charging?
Chevrolet describes the Equinox EV’s 85 kWh battery as capable of 150 kW public DC fast charging. Tesla lists maximum Supercharging of 225 kW for Model Y RWD and 250 kW for Premium. Maximum power is a peak capability, not the rate a car sustains through an entire charging stop. The cited manufacturer information does not provide a matched-condition charging-curve test that would show which vehicle completes a particular road-trip stop sooner.
Tesla’s vehicle page also gives a different kind of figure: up to 160 miles added in 15 minutes for Model Y RWD and up to 169 miles for Premium. Tesla says the miles-added figure is based on constant-speed data. It is not directly comparable to Chevrolet’s peak-kW specification, nor is it a standardized head-to-head session. Charging time and range added in practice depend on factors including battery state and temperature, vehicle configuration and charger conditions.

Public charging networks and home charging
Chevrolet says the myChevrolet app provides access to more than 250,000 public chargers in the US and Canada, including over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers. Tesla promotes route planning and its Supercharger network. These are manufacturer descriptions, not a guarantee that every listed charger is compatible, available or convenient for a specific route. Check local site coverage, vehicle compatibility, access requirements and pricing before relying on a network for regular use.
Tesla says Supercharger site pricing varies by location and may be billed per kWh or per minute. Chevrolet describes an available Dual Level Charge Cord for home charging, while Tesla lists a Wall Connector as an optional product. Equipment choice and electrical installation are separate considerations; check the selected vehicle’s charging requirements, the home’s electrical capacity and local installation costs.

How do the cabins and controls compare?
In its 2026 LT 2 versus Premium RWD comparison, Chevrolet lists the Equinox EV with a 17.7-inch center screen, an 11-inch driver information display, physical HVAC controls and a physical shift lever. For the Tesla Premium RWD, Chevrolet lists a 15.4-inch center screen, no driver display, and screen/button gear selection. Because this information comes from Chevrolet’s promotional comparison, confirm the equipment on the exact trim and model year before ordering.
The practical distinction is the control layout: the Equinox EV’s listed arrangement includes separate driver information and physical climate controls, while the Tesla comparison emphasizes a center-screen interface. Whether that is preferable is a matter of use and preference, so sit in each vehicle and try the controls you expect to use most.
