BMW lists 110 lb-ft of peak torque for the 2026 R 1300 RS, while Harley-Davidson lists 93 ft-lb for the 2026 Sportster S. That is a 17 lb-ft difference, or about 18% more for the BMW based on the manufacturers’ published figures. This is a specification comparison—not a head-to-head test of acceleration or rear-wheel output.
How the published torque figures compare

Subtracting Harley’s 93 ft-lb from BMW’s 110 lb-ft gives 17 lb-ft. Relative to the Harley figure, the difference is about 18%: (110 − 93) ÷ 93, rounded. The figures use equivalent torque units—lb-ft and ft-lb are two ways of writing the same unit.
Which Sportster is this?
“Sportster” refers to a model line, not a single motorcycle with one fixed specification. This comparison uses the current 2026 Sportster S, not every Sportster model or year. Harley’s 2025 U.S. technical specifications also list 93 ft-lb for the Sportster S, at 6,000 rpm, and identify J1349 as the torque test method. That is a 2025 specification; it does not establish the 2026 model’s torque rpm or test method. Harley-Davidson’s 2025 technical specifications.

What the difference does—and does not—tell you
Peak torque is a single published maximum at a stated engine speed where one is provided. It does not show how much torque an engine makes across its rev range, how gearing affects force at the wheel, or how either motorcycle performs in a particular gear. The figures therefore cannot establish which bike accelerates faster or feels stronger on the road; that would require additional specifications or a controlled riding comparison.
BMW gives its torque figure in both U.S. and metric materials: 110 lb-ft at 6,500 rpm in the U.S. announcement and 149 Nm at 6,500 rpm in its global press kit. BMW also lists 107 kW (145 hp) in that kit. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent dyno results. BMW’s global R 1300 RS press kit.

The motorcycles have different stated roles
BMW describes the R 1300 RS as a sports tourer designed for dynamic riding as well as longer-distance travel. Its U.S. launch materials describe optional touring luggage, including a tank bag that can expand the motorcycle’s storage capacity. Harley’s 2026 Sportster S page emphasizes performance-focused styling and equipment. Those roles provide context for the models, but they do not make the peak-torque figures a direct measure of overall suitability.
