That is a substantial step up in power, but not in range: BMW estimates 283–303 miles depending on configuration, while its FAQ lists 302 miles. The M70’s appeal is acceleration and performance equipment, not a longer-distance advantage over the less powerful iX trims.
What makes the iX M70 a performance leap?
BMW lists three U.S.-market 2026 iX variants: xDrive45, xDrive60, and M70 xDrive. The M70 is the range-topping, performance-focused version. BMW Group USA says its system output reaches up to 650 hp in My Mode Sport—40 hp more than the preceding M60 xDrive—and claims a 0–60 mph time of 3.6 seconds. BMW also lists a 155 mph electronically limited top speed when the M70 is equipped with performance tires. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent test results.
That output is the M70’s clearest leap over its siblings. BMW’s January 2025 U.S. launch announcement listed the xDrive45 at 402 hp and the xDrive60 at 536 hp. The M70 adds 114 hp over the xDrive60 and 248 hp over the xDrive45, but BMW did not provide comparable 0–60 mph figures for those two trims in the cited launch material. Do not treat the horsepower difference alone as a measured acceleration comparison.
How do the 2026 iX trims compare?
BMW’s launch announcement quoted “up to” range estimates; its technical page supplies configuration ranges for the M70. Those figures can vary with wheel and tire selection, so they are not a like-for-like guarantee for every build.

The practical trade-off is straightforward: the M70’s quoted range is lower than the xDrive60’s 340-mile maximum estimate and the xDrive45’s 312-mile maximum estimate. BMW cautions that range depends on configuration and use, and that recent model-year estimates may not yet be EPA-certified. The figures are estimates, not promises of what an owner will achieve.
What range should M70 buyers expect?
BMW’s U.S. technical data lists an estimated 283–303 miles for the M70, depending on configuration. Its 2026 range FAQ gives an expected 302 miles. BMW’s model page warns that actual range varies with wheels and tires, driving style, accessories, traffic, temperature, and charging frequency; it also notes that recent model-year estimates may not yet be EPA-certified. Check the specific vehicle configuration and current EPA listing rather than assuming every M70 has the same rating.

Wheel choice is relevant because BMW says it affects range. The M70 comes with 21-inch M wheels as standard, and BMW describes optional 22- and 23-inch choices. The larger or different wheel-and-tire package may change the estimate for a particular build; BMW’s published configuration range is the appropriate reference, rather than a single number applied to every vehicle.
BMW’s global M70 page reports figures in a different market and test context, including 485 kW/659 hp and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h. Those figures should not be mixed with U.S. horsepower, 0–60 mph, or U.S. range estimates.

What performance equipment comes with the M70?
BMW’s U.S. launch release lists M-specific exterior elements, 21-inch M wheels, M multifunction seats, adaptive two-axle air suspension, Integral Active Steering, and M Sport brakes among the M70’s standard equipment. Together with its higher output, these distinguish it as more than an output upgrade within the iX range. BMW’s release also describes optional 22- and 23-inch wheels, which matter to buyers weighing appearance and configuration-specific range.
How quickly does it charge?
BMW’s technical data lists maximum DC charging power of 195 kW and an estimated 35 minutes for a DC charge from 10% to 80%. These are manufacturer technical figures, not a guarantee that a public charging session will hold peak power throughout. Actual charge time can depend on the vehicle, charger, battery conditions, and session circumstances; the cited specification alone does not establish a typical real-world result.

What does the 2026 BMW iX M70 cost?
BMW Group USA’s January 2025 launch announcement listed a $111,500 base MSRP for the 2026 M70, plus $1,175 destination and handling. BMW’s current model page shows a configured example at $111,500 and says displayed MSRP need not equal a dealer’s price and excludes taxes and fees. Treat both as price context, not a guaranteed transaction price: check BMW’s live configurator and dealer inventory for the vehicle and location you are considering.
Who should choose the M70?
The M70 makes most sense for a buyer who values the iX’s strongest acceleration and performance-focused equipment enough to accept a lower BMW-estimated range than the xDrive60 or xDrive45. If maximizing BMW’s quoted range is more important than the top output, the xDrive60 has the higher listed maximum range and still offers 536 hp. The xDrive45 is the lower-output alternative, with BMW’s launch announcement quoting up to 312 miles. Compare the exact wheel-and-tire configuration and current vehicle pricing before deciding.
