The U.S.-market 2026 BMW i4 brings two distinct updates: BMW estimates more range for the eDrive40, while the former i4 M50 is renamed the M60 and gains up to 57 horsepower in My Modes Sport. That 57-hp increase applies only to the M60’s Sport-mode output compared with the previous M50—not to every i4 or every M60 driving mode.
What does the 57-horsepower increase mean?
BMW’s November 6, 2025 U.S. announcement says the renamed M60 produces 510 hp at start-up, 41 hp more than the i4 M50, and 593 hp with My Modes Sport selected, 57 hp more than the M50. BMW gives the M60 a 0–60 mph time of 3.6 seconds. These are BMW figures in its release, not independent test results. BMW Group’s November 2025 announcement
There is a difference between that release and BMW USA’s current model page: the latter lists the M60’s maximum horsepower as 591 hp. The available official figures do not resolve the discrepancy, so the release’s 593-hp Sport-mode figure and the current page’s 591-hp maximum should not be treated as interchangeable. How much range does the 2026 i4 gain?
BMW’s November 2025 release gives preliminary blended range estimates based on BMW AG testing using EPA test-procedure standards. Its year-over-year gains compare the listed 2026 configurations with their 2025 counterparts:

| 2026 U.S. configuration | November 2025 preliminary estimate | Change from 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| i4 eDrive40, 18-inch wheels | 333 miles | Up 15 miles |
| i4 eDrive40, 19-inch wheels | 307 miles | Up 12 miles |
| i4 M60, 19-inch wheels | 278 miles | Up 11 miles |
| i4 M60, 20-inch wheels | 232 miles | Up 5 miles |
BMW attributes the eDrive40 update to silicon carbide (SiC) inverters, which it says improve the efficiency of energy transfer between the high-voltage battery and electric motors. The release does not attribute the M60’s year-over-year range changes to the eDrive40 inverter update. BMW Group’s November 2025 announcement
BMW USA’s current page presents ideal-condition range bands of 307–333 miles for eDrive40, 268–287 miles for xDrive40 and 232–278 miles for M60. These current bands are not an exact match to every wheel-specific estimate in the November release, particularly for the M60; treat them as separate BMW presentations rather than a single consistent set of configuration figures. BMW also cautions that recently released model-year ranges may not yet be EPA-certified. Actual range varies with model, wheels and tires, driving style, accessories, traffic, outside temperature and charging frequency. BMW USA’s current i4 page

Which 2026 i4 version fits your priorities?
BMW USA lists three U.S. variants. The eDrive40 is rear-wheel drive; xDrive40 and M60 are all-wheel drive. The November release provides the M60 acceleration figure, while BMW USA’s current page lists times for the other two models.
| Variant | Drivetrain | BMW range information | 0–60 mph | Displayed starting MSRP |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| eDrive40 | Rear-wheel drive | November preliminary: 333 miles (18-inch) or 307 miles (19-inch); current page: 307–333 miles | 5.5 seconds | $57,900 |
| xDrive40 | All-wheel drive | Current page: 268–287 miles | 4.9 seconds | $62,300 |
| M60 | All-wheel drive | November preliminary: 278 miles (19-inch) or 232 miles (20-inch); current page: 232–278 miles | 3.6 seconds | Configure vehicle for pricing |
Prices are the starting MSRPs displayed on BMW USA’s current page; BMW says displayed MSRP may differ from a dealer’s sale price and directs shoppers to configure the vehicle for pricing. BMW does not provide an xDrive40 wheel-specific figure in the November release, so its current-page range band is shown separately. The eDrive40 is the efficiency-focused choice among these versions; the M60 is the performance flagship. The xDrive40 adds all-wheel drive between those two ends of the lineup. BMW says its all-electric models include a Flexible Fast Charger compatible with 120-volt household outlets and 240-volt outlets using the included adapters. BMW estimates 10–12 hours for 240-volt charging, depending on model. On a public DC fast charger, BMW claims the i4 can add 108 miles in 10 minutes for eDrive40 and 88 miles for xDrive40 or M60; these are manufacturer claims, not a promise of the same result at every charger or in every condition.
