The 2026 Australian Grand Prix started at 4:00am UK time (GMT) on Sunday 8 March 2026. The race began at 3:00pm in Melbourne, where the timetable placed the city 11 hours ahead of UTC. Because UK clocks did not move to British Summer Time until 29 March 2026, the correct UK conversion was 04:00 GMT.

Why the conversion is 4:00am in the UK
- Formula 1 scheduled the Melbourne race for 15:00 local time on 8 March 2026.
- The official timetable noted that Melbourne was 11 hours ahead of UTC on those dates, making the start 04:00 UTC.
- The UK was still using Greenwich Mean Time on 8 March. Its clocks went forward to BST on 29 March 2026.
Race start versus other Sunday sessions
Formula 1’s detailed Sunday schedule listed the national anthem at 14:44 in Melbourne, followed by the Grand Prix at 15:00. Converting the anthem time gives 03:44 UK time, but the race start remained 04:00 GMT.

The 04:00 figure is exact for the 2026 Australian Grand Prix, which took place on 8 March 2026. It should not automatically be reused for a different season. Check that year’s official Melbourne start time, the city’s UTC offset and the UK daylight-saving date before converting it.

How to convert a future Australian Grand Prix time
- Start with the official local race time in Melbourne.
- Confirm Melbourne’s UTC offset for the event date; it can vary with Australian daylight-saving arrangements.
- Check whether the UK is on GMT or BST on that date.
- Subtract the difference between the two offsets and verify the result against Formula 1’s published timetable.
For the 2026 event, those checks produced 15:00 Melbourne, UTC+11, and UK GMT—therefore 04:00 in the UK.
