The 2026 Audi Q3 is the better value and city-sized choice; the 2026 Audi Q5 is the roomier, more capable choice. In the U.S., the Q3 starts at $43,700 and the Q5 at $52,800, before Audi’s $1,295 destination charge. Including destination, their starting figures are approximately $44,995 and $54,095, respectively.
The Q3 has the quicker manufacturer-quoted 0–60-mph time and nearly 50 cubic feet of maximum cargo space. The Q5 counters with 56.9 cubic feet of maximum cargo room, up to 4,400 pounds of towing capacity with its optional hitch, a larger 14.5-inch MMI display, and more available luxury and driver-assistance technology. The right choice depends on whether price and maneuverability or space and capability matter more.
Scope: This is a U.S.-market comparison of the standard 2026 Audi Q3 and 2026 Audi Q5 SUVs. Prices and equipment can change by trim, package, region, and dealer. The Q5 Sportback is a separate body style and is identified as such where relevant.
2026 Audi Q3 vs. Q5: price and model structure
The Q3 is Audi’s compact entry SUV; the Q5 is the larger midsize model. The Q3 starts at $43,700 MSRP, while the Q5 starts at $52,800 MSRP. That is a $9,100 difference before destination, taxes, options, dealer charges, and registration costs.

| 2026 model | Starting MSRP | Destination and delivery | Starting price including destination | Standard drivetrain |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Audi Q3 | $43,700 | $1,295 | $44,995 | Quattro all-wheel drive |
| Audi Q5 | $52,800 | $1,295 | $54,095 | Quattro all-wheel drive |
The destination-inclusive figures are useful for comparing the two models, but they are not out-the-door prices. Audi’s advertised starting prices exclude taxes, title, options, dealer fees, and other charges. Because the destination charge is the same in this comparison, the Q5 remains approximately $9,100 more expensive before those additional costs.
For 2026, Audi describes the Q3 as using one higher-output powertrain rather than the previous model’s separate entry and higher-output configurations. Both the Q3 and Q5 were scheduled to reach U.S. retailers beginning in the first quarter of 2026. Confirm local inventory and final dealer pricing before ordering.
Performance: the Q3 is quicker on Audi’s specifications
| Specification | 2026 Audi Q3 | 2026 Audi Q5 |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | Turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder | Turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder |
| Horsepower | 255 hp | 268 hp |
| Torque | 273 lb-ft | 295 lb-ft |
| Transmission | Seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic | Seven-speed S tronic |
| All-wheel drive | Standard quattro | Standard quattro |
| 0–60 mph | As little as 5.5 seconds | 5.8 seconds |
The Q5 produces 13 more horsepower and 22 more pound-feet of torque, but Audi quotes a slightly quicker 0–60-mph time for the Q3: as little as 5.5 seconds versus 5.8 seconds for the Q5. The Q3’s smaller size and lower mass help explain why the less powerful SUV has the faster published acceleration figure.
Those acceleration numbers are Audi specifications, not independent test results. Actual performance can vary with equipment, tires, weather, road surface, passenger load, and test method. The Q5’s extra output is more relevant to carrying passengers, luggage, or a trailer than the three-tenths-of-a-second difference in the quoted sprint.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBoth comparison vehicles are gasoline-powered turbocharged four-cylinder SUVs in the standard configurations covered here. The supplied U.S. materials do not establish a hybrid or plug-in-hybrid version of either the 2026 Q3 or standard 2026 Q5, so neither should be treated as an electrified SUV in this comparison.
Efficiency: do not use Q5 Sportback figures for the Q5 SUV
A definitive EPA city/highway/combined rating for the standard U.S.-market 2026 Q3 and standard Q5 SUV was not confirmed in the materials reviewed for this comparison. That means there is not enough verified information here to declare one model the fuel-economy winner or calculate an annual fuel-cost difference.
Rank #2
Audi lists 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined for the 2026 Q5 Sportback. Those figures belong to the Sportback body style and should not automatically be applied to the standard Q5 SUV. Body shape, curb weight, wheel and tire selection, and testing configuration can all affect EPA results. The same caution applies to any Q3 number taken from an earlier model year.
Before comparing fuel costs, check the EPA listing or window sticker for the exact vehicle, drivetrain, wheels, tires, and body style. A meaningful annual estimate also requires an assumed number of miles and a stated fuel price. The Q3’s smaller footprint and lower purchase price support a potentially less expensive daily-use proposition, but that is a practical inference—not a verified fuel-cost calculation.
Cargo space, rear-seat flexibility, and towing
| Utility measure | 2026 Audi Q3 | 2026 Audi Q5 |
|---|---|---|
| Cargo behind rear seats | Approximately 25 cu. ft. | Not specified in the supplied materials |
| Maximum cargo with rear seats folded | Nearly 50 cu. ft. | 56.9 cu. ft. |
| Rear-seat adjustment | Sliding and reclining second row | Rear seats slide and tilt |
| Maximum towing | 1,500 lb; 150-lb tongue-load limit | Up to 4,400 lb with the optional trailer hitch |
| Hitch preparation | Pre-wired for a trailer hitch | Optional trailer hitch |
The Q3 can handle ordinary luggage, groceries, strollers, and small recreational equipment. Its sliding and reclining rear seats let the owner exchange some rear-passenger legroom for cargo space when needed. Audi lists approximately 25 cubic feet behind the rear seats and nearly 50 cubic feet with them folded.
The Q5 offers more maximum cargo room, reaching 56.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. Its rear seats also slide and tilt, giving it more flexibility for family hauling and road trips. The Q5’s larger physical footprint is the trade-off: it offers more utility but is less oriented toward the tightest urban parking and maneuvering situations than the Q3.
Towing is the clearest utility advantage for the Q5. With its optional trailer hitch, Audi lists capacity of up to 4,400 pounds for the Q5 lineup. The Q3 is rated for 1,500 pounds, with a 150-pound tongue-load limit, and is pre-wired for a hitch. That makes the Q3 suitable for a small utility trailer or light recreational load, while the Q5 is the better choice for heavier trailers. Always match the trailer, tongue weight, equipment, and loading to the vehicle’s exact documentation.
If protecting the luggage area matters, look for Audi Q3 and Q5 cargo liners that are confirmed for the correct model year, body style, and seat configuration. A Q5 SUV liner is not automatically compatible with a Q5 Sportback, and a liner listed for an earlier Q3 or Q5 may not fit the 2026 cargo floor.

Interior and technology
Both SUVs have modern digital cockpits and wireless smartphone integration, but the Q5 provides the larger central display and a broader selection of premium technology.
| Feature | 2026 Audi Q3 | 2026 Audi Q5 |
|---|---|---|
| Digital instrument display | 11.9-inch digital instrument display | 11.9-inch Virtual Cockpit |
| Central MMI display | 12.8 inches | 14.5 inches |
| Phone integration | Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto | Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto |
| Head-up display | Available | Available |
| Passenger display | Not listed in the supplied Q3 materials | Available 10.9-inch display |
| Premium audio | Available Sonos system: 12 speakers, 420 watts | Available Bang & Olufsen 3D system: 16 speakers, 685 watts |
| Integrated dashcam | Not listed in the supplied Q3 materials | Available 4K/30-fps dashcam |
The Q3’s 11.9-inch instrument display and 12.8-inch MMI screen give it a contemporary cabin without requiring Q5 pricing. Its available Sonos system has 12 speakers and 420 watts, and a head-up display is available.
The Q5 steps up to a 14.5-inch MMI screen and adds options that are not part of the Q3’s supplied equipment list, including a 10.9-inch passenger display, a 685-watt Bang & Olufsen 3D audio system with 16 speakers, and an integrated 4K/30-fps dashcam. The dashcam stores video locally on a separately supplied microSD card; it is available equipment, not something every Q5 includes. Buyers selecting it should verify the required card format, capacity, speed class, and compatibility against Audi’s documentation before purchasing a microSD card for Audi Q5 dashcam.
For 2026, Audi also describes the Q5 as receiving a new MMI design, an updated multifunction steering wheel, expanded voice-control capability, and additional parking and driver-assistance equipment. The Premium Plus Technology package adds the head-up display and passenger display, while Prestige models receive additional parking and camera features. These descriptions illustrate the Q5’s wider technology ceiling; they do not mean every feature is standard on the base Q5.
For everyday interior protection, buyers can also compare model-specific Audi floor liners. Check whether the listing is for the Q3, Q5 SUV, or Q5 Sportback and confirm the model year before ordering. Accessory fitment should not be assumed from the vehicle name alone.
Driver assistance and safety-related equipment
Audi lists the following driver-assistance features among the Q3’s standard launch equipment: adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with emergency assist, traffic-sign recognition, attention and fatigue warning, active front assist, Audi side assist, and rear cross-traffic assist. An available driver-assistance package adds adaptive cruise assist, a top-view camera, Park Assist Plus, and a heated steering wheel.
Rank #4
Audi’s Q5 materials list rear parking aid with distance display, traffic-sign-based adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, efficiency assistant, traffic-sign recognition, attention and drowsiness assistance, Park Assist Plus, Rear Turn Assist, and Active Front Assist among its standard or listed equipment. Adaptive cruise assist is available, while higher trims can add Park Assist Pro with remote functionality, rear emergency braking, and a 3D top-view camera system.
Because feature availability can depend on trim and package, compare the exact build sheet or window sticker rather than relying on a general model-page feature list. These systems are driver assistance, not autonomous driving. They have operating limits and do not replace an attentive driver who is responsible for steering, speed, braking, and traffic awareness.

Audi’s 2026 model pages list the same scheduled-maintenance and new-vehicle warranty terms for the Q3 and Q5:
- Audi Signature Care scheduled maintenance: included for three years or 30,000 miles, whichever comes first.
- New-vehicle limited warranty: four years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first.
That included maintenance reduces one difference a buyer might otherwise expect between the compact Q3 and midsize Q5. It does not establish that the two vehicles will have identical ownership costs. Insurance, fuel consumption, tires, financing, depreciation, repair costs, options, and dealer pricing can all differ. A genuine total-cost-of-ownership comparison would require vehicle-specific assumptions and additional data.
Which Audi should you buy?
Choose the 2026 Audi Q3 if:
- You want to keep the starting price near $45,000 including Audi’s listed destination charge, before taxes and options.
- Your driving is mainly commuting, errands, and urban use.
- Nearly 50 cubic feet of maximum cargo room is enough for your regular needs.
- A 1,500-pound towing rating meets your requirements.
- You want standard quattro, strong acceleration, and a modern digital cockpit without moving into Q5 pricing.
- You value the Q3’s smaller footprint more than maximum rear-seat, cargo, or towing capacity.
Choose the 2026 Audi Q5 if:
- You regularly carry adults, family luggage, bulky gear, or larger recreational equipment.
- You need the Q5’s available towing capacity of up to 4,400 pounds with the proper optional hitch.
- You prefer the larger 14.5-inch MMI display or want the available passenger display.
- You want access to the Q5’s broader range of premium audio, camera, parking, dashcam, and driver-assistance options.
- You expect to take frequent road trips or use the SUV as a more substantial family hauler.
- The extra $9,100 in starting MSRP is justified by space and equipment rather than simply by acceleration.
The simplest buying decision
The Q3 is the value-oriented, city-friendly choice. It costs less, takes up less space, and has the quicker acceleration figure in Audi’s published specifications. It still provides standard quattro and useful cargo flexibility.
The Q5 is the more capable all-rounder. Its additional $9,100 in starting MSRP buys a larger SUV, more maximum cargo capacity, substantially stronger towing capability, a bigger central screen, and access to more high-end technology. It is the better fit when passengers, cargo, trailers, or long-distance comfort matter more than minimizing the purchase price.

Neither model is universally better. The Q3 makes the stronger case for a buyer who mainly needs a premium commuter with occasional cargo duty. The Q5 earns its premium when the vehicle must serve as a larger family vehicle, road-trip SUV, or light-towing tool.
What to verify before buying
- Confirm the exact price. Start with MSRP, add the $1,295 destination charge, then account for options, taxes, title, dealer fees, and financing.
- Check the EPA data for the exact vehicle. Do not substitute Q5 Sportback ratings for the standard Q5 SUV or carry forward an earlier Q3 rating.
- Match the equipment to the trim. Head-up displays, passenger screens, premium audio, dashcams, cameras, and advanced parking functions may be optional or trim-specific.
- Confirm towing equipment. The Q3’s 1,500-pound rating and the Q5’s up-to-4,400-pound rating depend on the correct hitch and vehicle configuration.
- Test the cargo area with your own items. Bring a stroller, cooler, luggage, sports equipment, or other objects you routinely carry.
- Check accessory fitment carefully. Q3, Q5 SUV, and Q5 Sportback cargo products are not automatically interchangeable.
- Verify local availability. Audi states that specifications and availability can change, and dealer pricing may differ from advertised starting prices.
The specifications in this comparison are based on Audi USA model information and Audi of America 2026 launch and technical materials supplied for this review. Manufacturer performance figures are identified as such, and no independent road test was conducted.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Audi Q3 faster than the Q5?
Yes, according to Audi’s quoted specifications. The Q3 is listed at as little as 5.5 seconds from 0 to 60 mph, compared with 5.8 seconds for the Q5. The Q5 has more power and torque, but the Q3’s smaller size helps it post the quicker manufacturer-quoted time. These are not independent test results.
Which has more cargo space, the Audi Q3 or Q5?
The Q5 has more maximum cargo capacity: 56.9 cubic feet with the rear seats folded, compared with nearly 50 cubic feet for the Q3. Both have adjustable rear seats, but the Q3’s compact size may be easier to manage in dense urban areas.
Can the Audi Q3 or Q5 tow a trailer?
The Q3 is rated to tow up to 1,500 pounds and has a 150-pound tongue-load limit. The Q5 can tow up to 4,400 pounds when equipped with the optional trailer hitch. Confirm the exact vehicle and hitch configuration before towing.
Which 2026 Audi SUV gets better gas mileage?
The supplied materials do not confirm EPA city, highway, and combined figures for the standard 2026 Q3 or standard Q5 SUV. Audi’s 21/29/24-mpg rating is for the 2026 Q5 Sportback and should not automatically be applied to the standard Q5.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: Buy the 2026 Audi Q3 for the lower price, smaller footprint, standard quattro, and quick published acceleration. Choose the 2026 Audi Q5 when you need more cargo flexibility, up to 4,400 pounds of towing, or access to Audi’s broader premium technology range.
