The 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz is a compelling electric family van if you want a spacious, distinctive people-mover; it is a harder sell if you prioritize low price or long-distance range. Volkswagen estimates 231–234 miles per charge, depending on trim, and lists a starting MSRP of $59,995. Those figures make the Buzz’s limitations as important to consider as its room and personality.
The headline claim that it is “the best electric vehicle Americans aren’t buying” is an editorial hook, not a verified sales finding. Volkswagen Group has reported 132,000 cumulative worldwide ID. Buzz deliveries, including Cargo models, but that total does not establish U.S. sales of the 2025 passenger van. The available evidence does not settle how many Americans bought it.
What makes the 2025 ID. Buzz different?
The ID. Buzz brings a van layout to the electric-vehicle market, pairing a tall, roomy cabin with styling that deliberately recalls Volkswagen’s classic Microbus. Its appeal is not simply the retro look: a high roof and passenger-focused interior make it a more natural choice for carrying people than many three-row crossovers.
That distinction comes with compromises. Independent reviews praise its comfort, smooth power and distinctive character, while pointing to its price, range, controls and cargo access as drawbacks. The Buzz is best judged as a specialized family van, not as an automatic winner over every electric SUV.

How many people does the ID. Buzz seat?
Depending on trim, the U.S. 2025 ID. Buzz seats six or seven. Volkswagen says the cabin has more than 160 cubic feet of passenger space, but that figure should not be confused with luggage capacity behind all occupied rows.
| Trim | Seating | Second row |
|---|---|---|
| Pro S | Seven | Three-person bench |
| Pro S Plus | Six | Captain’s chairs |
| 1st Edition | Six | Captain’s chairs |
Reviews note that cargo room behind the third row is limited relative to the van’s overall size. For maximum cargo capacity, the third-row seats must be removed, so consider how often you need to carry both a full passenger load and substantial luggage.
How far can the 2025 VW ID. Buzz go on a charge?
Volkswagen lists an EPA-estimated range of 231–234 miles per charge, depending on trim and driving conditions. This is a manufacturer-published estimate, not a guarantee of real-world distance; speed, weather, terrain, load and use of climate control can affect how far the van travels.

That range may be sufficient for routine local driving and planned trips with charging stops. It is a notable constraint for buyers who frequently drive long distances or want to minimize stops. Consumer Reports’ search-listed road-test summary reports a 231-mile EPA range for the AWD version; Edmunds lists 234 miles. Compare the range of the specific configuration you are considering rather than assuming every ID. Buzz has the same figure.

Does the ID. Buzz have enough range for road trips?
It can make road trips, but its EPA estimate and charging needs call for more planning than a longer-range EV. Before a trip, check the route for compatible DC fast chargers, consider the spacing between them, and leave flexibility for conditions that reduce range or make a charger unavailable. The Buzz’s van-like room and comfort may suit a family trip, but they do not remove the practical cost of charging stops.
For comparison, evaluate the Hyundai Ioniq 9 and Kia EV9 on the exact same terms: EPA range for the configuration, passenger seating, cargo room with all rows occupied, charging access along your regular routes, and the price you can actually negotiate locally. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is another option for shoppers who want an electrified family vehicle but are not ready to rely entirely on battery charging.

How much does a 2025 ID. Buzz cost?
Volkswagen’s current U.S. model page lists a starting MSRP of $59,995. That is a starting price, not a universal transaction quote; trim, options, destination, dealer charges, location and date can change the amount a buyer pays.
A separate Volkswagen technical specification sheet for the 2025 1st Edition 4MOTION lists a $69,995 MSRP plus $1,550 destination, for a $71,545 total MSRP before taxes and other charges. This is a dated figure for that specific configuration, not the price of every ID. Buzz. Edmunds’ July 2026 page reports a lower suggested transaction figure based on recent sales in Texas; that local estimate should not be treated as a nationwide price. Volkswagen says a 240-volt, 11-kW Level 2 charger can take approximately up to nine hours to charge the battery from empty. That is the manufacturer’s stated estimate, not a promise for every home setup; charging equipment, the vehicle’s charging conditions and the home electrical installation affect the result.

Volkswagen says the 2025 model does not include EVSE (the charging equipment). A home Level 2 charger is sold separately, and installation may require additional wiring and cost. Have the installation assessed for your home’s electrical system before choosing equipment. Volkswagen also describes a qualifying new-purchase charging plan with 36 months of Pass+ pricing and 500 kWh of complimentary charging, subject to enrollment, fees and other conditions. Buyers should confirm eligibility and terms; used-vehicle benefits may not transfer.
What about public fast charging?
Volkswagen says DC charging from 10% to 80% can take as little as 26 minutes. Actual charging speed varies, so treat that as a best-case manufacturer figure rather than a guaranteed stop time. The approved Volkswagen NACS DC adapter is sold separately. Volkswagen’s instructions permit it only at compatible DC chargers and prohibit its use with Level 1 or Level 2 AC chargers.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the ID. Buzz worth the price?
It may be worth it if you specifically want an electric van with room for six or seven, an unusual design and a comfortable passenger-focused cabin. It is less persuasive if your priorities are the lowest purchase price, longer EPA range or ample luggage space with every seat occupied. Reviews from Edmunds and Consumer Guide praise its comfort, smoothness and distinctive character, while Consumer Reports’ available listing describes its cost of entry as too high for many buyers.

Before deciding, compare actual local offers and evaluate the alternatives against your own use: seat layout, usable cargo behind the third row, range for your usual routes, charging availability and home-charging costs. A three-row crossover may be a better value for some households; it may also lack the van’s passenger-oriented layout and sense of space.
Are Americans really not buying the ID. Buzz?
The available figures do not establish that. Volkswagen Group reported 132,000 cumulative worldwide ID. Buzz deliveries in 2026, including Cargo models. That is neither a U.S.-only total nor a count of 2025 passenger vans. A separate 2025 Group release said the company’s overall BEV delivery share rose from 8% to 11% year over year and Group BEV deliveries in the USA grew 46%; neither figure is specific to the ID. Buzz.
Those statistics cannot support a claim about how many Americans bought this model. Volkswagen’s U.S. page presents the 2025 vehicle, but the available material does not establish a definitive U.S. availability statement for model years after 2025.
