The 2025 Toyota Crown Signia makes a persuasive case for a premium crossover that does not follow the usual upright-SUV formula: every U.S. version pairs a hybrid powertrain with standard all-wheel drive, while its long, low shape gives it a wagon-like character. That combination is appealing, but the trade-offs are real—especially its cargo capacity and the road and tire noise reviewers noticed. It is a useful example for other automakers, not proof that one design suits every buyer.
What makes the Crown Signia a different kind of SUV?
Toyota places the Crown Signia in its SUV lineup, but its proportions sit closer to a long-roof wagon or hatchback than a conventional tall, upright crossover. Cars.com and Edmunds reviewers both made that visual comparison. The distinction is more than styling: the Signia is a two-row vehicle designed around a premium cabin and an efficient, standard-hybrid powertrain rather than maximum passenger count or cargo volume.
For the 2025 U.S. model, Toyota offered two grades, XLE and Limited. Both came with electronic on-demand all-wheel drive and a hybrid system rated by Toyota at 240 net system horsepower. Toyota estimated fuel economy at 38 mpg combined; that is the manufacturer’s estimate, not an independent test result. Toyota’s 2025 model overview gives the core specifications.
How does the hybrid AWD system and cabin equipment make its case?
Cars.com describes the powertrain as a four-cylinder gasoline engine paired with two electric motors, with a separate motor at the rear providing all-wheel drive when needed. In its review, the system felt adequately quick, though the engine could drone under acceleration. Edmunds later recorded a 7.8-second 0–60 mph time in its own test; that result belongs to Edmunds’ test, not Toyota’s specification.

The equipment also supports the Signia’s premium positioning. Toyota’s launch materials list a 12.3-inch touchscreen and a cargo-area tonneau cover. Cars.com reports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, but its reviewer found Toyota’s native on-screen interface less straightforward than some competitors’ systems. The touchscreen’s size and phone integration are conveniences; they do not guarantee that every menu is easy to use. Toyota’s 2025 launch release describes the launch equipment.
What are the compromises in comfort, space and price?
Ride and cabin noise
Cars.com’s Mike Hanley drove a Limited at a manufacturer event in Southern California in 2024. He found its steering light and the ride controlled and comfortable on smooth roads, but noticed small pavement imperfections and tire noise. He questioned how the Limited’s 21-inch wheels would fare on rougher pavement; that is a concern raised in the review, not a finding from a rough-road test. Cars.com notes the XLE’s 19-inch wheels have taller tire sidewalls, which tend to help ride comfort.

- 【Vehicle Specific】Compatible for Toyota Crown Signia 2025-present. The precise fit design ensures our sunshade completely covers the front windshield. Protect your car from sun rays & heat damage and keep the car interior cool.
- 【Higher Price, Better Quality】Our sunshade is made of premium quality reflective 210T polyester, with thick double-layer fabric for better insulation. The steel ring on the side is made of high-quality memory metal, which is more durable and not easily deformed. Coupled with rigorous needle and thread edging, our sunshade is more durable and long-lasting.
- 【Why Use Our Sunshade】The Thickened Double-layer sunshade for Toyota Crown Signia does not transmit light and can block 99% of ultraviolet rays. After a long period of parking, the temperature inside the car with a sunshade is 59-77℉ lower than that without it,better avoiding aging and cracking of the center console and seats. After cooling down, turning on the air conditioner can cool faster, reduce engine load, and save about 5-8% fuel in the long run. Also, you will reduce the uncomfortable leather smell caused by high temperature, ensuring a longer value of your car and a safer life for your family and pets.
- 【Easy Installation】Just stick the velcro strip around the rear view mirror, then pull the two sun visors down to hold it in place. Easy and effortless.
- 【Easy To Fold】First, fold the sunshade for Toyota Crown Signia in half, then twist it into an "8" shape, just like you usually twist wet towels and clothes, until the sunshade folds into three small circles. Finally, tie it with the rope and put it in the bag. If you still have a problem with how to fold it, please refer to our video.
Edmunds’ review, updated September 22, 2026, also praises the front seats and controls but reports more freeway road noise than in some midsize crossovers. It describes the rear seat as tighter than those in other midsize SUVs. These are reviewer observations, and the experience may vary with road surface, tires and vehicle configuration.
Cargo capacity and shape
Edmunds lists 25.8 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seats and 68.8 cubic feet with the second row folded. Those are Edmunds’ published figures, and the reviewer says the space is below what some competitors offer. Cars.com reports a low cargo floor and 6.6 feet of extended cargo-area length with the rear seat folded, but also points out that the Signia’s swept liftgate cuts into the usable opening. Its shape can suit longer items while making the opening less boxy than a conventional SUV’s.

Launch pricing is not a current quote
Cars.com listed the 2025 XLE at $44,985 and the Limited at $49,385, including destination, in its June 6, 2024 launch review. Those are historical launch prices, not current transaction prices or a quote for a vehicle on sale today. Inventory, discounts and used-car pricing change over time. Cars.com’s launch review includes the dated pricing and its driving impressions.
Who should cross-shop the Crown Signia?
Cars.com names the Acura RDX and Lexus NX as alternatives. A useful comparison should look beyond badges and headline prices: check the price and equipment of the specific vehicles available to you, their fuel economy and drivetrain, cabin noise and ride on the roads you use, and the cargo opening as well as the published volume. The evidence here does not provide matched, same-day specifications for those competitors, so a numerical ranking would be misleading. Buyers who prefer a traditional upright SUV silhouette should also decide whether the Signia’s long, low profile is a draw or a drawback.

Within Toyota’s lineup, the choice is clearer by layout and purpose. Edmunds describes the Crown Signia as longer and lower than the RAV4, with less cargo room, and about as long as the Highlander but without a third row. That makes the Signia a premium two-row alternative for buyers who do not need the Highlander’s extra seating, rather than a direct substitute for every Toyota SUV.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Does the Crown Signia show other automakers how it’s done?
It shows one coherent approach: combine a standard hybrid and all-wheel drive, premium appointments and a distinctive wagon-like profile in a two-row crossover. Toyota’s manufacturer-estimated 38 mpg combined figure strengthens that case, while the reviewers’ praise for the front seats and comfortable ride on smooth pavement gives it substance beyond styling.

But the formula involves choices. The swept rear shape limits the cargo opening, the published cargo volume is modest relative to some competitors, and reviewers have noted tire or freeway noise. The Signia is most convincing for a buyer who values its hybrid AWD package and less conventional design more than maximum cargo utility, a third row or the familiar proportions of an upright SUV.
