The 2025 U.S. Subaru WRX carries rally influence into a road-going sedan through standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a turbocharged BOXER engine, and chassis tuning Subaru associates with motorsport. It is not, however, a rally car in production trim: Subaru’s competition machines are purpose-built, including the WRX ARA25 developed for a specific rally class.
What makes the 2025 WRX rally-inspired?
The connection is clearest in the production car’s drivetrain and chassis. Subaru lists standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and a 2.4-liter direct-injection turbocharged BOXER engine for the 2025 U.S. WRX. The engine is rated at 271 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Subaru also describes the car’s suspension and steering as track-tuned, and its design as rally-influenced. These are road-car features and manufacturer positioning—not evidence that the sedan has competition-car hardware.
Subaru’s 2025 model page calls it “The rally legend for the next generation.” That is the company’s marketing language; the concrete basis for the rally association is the WRX’s all-wheel-drive layout, turbocharged engine, and performance-focused chassis.
2025 U.S. WRX: transmission and suspension details
Subaru lists a six-speed manual transmission as standard and offers a paddle-shift Subaru Performance Transmission on applicable trims. The GT and tS have electronically adjustable dampers. Transmission and suspension equipment vary by trim, so a buyer should check the specification for the exact 2025 U.S. version rather than assume every WRX has the same setup.

Is the WRX a rally car?
No. The WRX is a production road car with features and a heritage connected to rallying. A competition car is engineered and prepared for its class and event; its equipment should not be assumed to come with the showroom sedan.
The WRX ARA25 is a separate competition car
Subaru Motorsports USA describes the WRX ARA25 as a purpose-built competition car developed with Vermont SportsCar for the American Rally Association’s Limited 4-Wheel-Drive class. It is not a production WRX trim, and its competition specification is not standard equipment on the 2025 road car.

What Subaru’s rally record says—and what it doesn’t
Subaru Motorsports USA’s 2025 brochure says the organization won overall Rally America and American Rally Association titles 18 times between 2006 and 2024. That figure is tied to those U.S. series and that stated period; it should not be treated as a count of every Subaru rally championship worldwide.
Subaru Australia recounts a different record: ten consecutive Australian Rally Championship drivers’ titles and seven manufacturers’ titles, ending when the company withdrew from the championship in 2005. Those Australian achievements are separate from Subaru Motorsports USA’s U.S. title count and should not be added to it.
