What changed for the 2025 Ram HD?
Ram announced the 2025 2500 and 3500 on January 7, 2025. The headline mechanical change is a new Cummins High-Output diesel paired with a TorqueFlite HD eight-speed automatic. The 6.4-liter HEMI also gets the eight-speed, and both engines use a new electronic column shifter. Ram said sales would begin in the first quarter of 2025; that launch timing is not a statement of current inventory.

The exterior receives revisions, and LED headlamps and taillamps are standard, according to Ram. Available power-telescoping trailer mirrors and a broad set of camera and cabin technology add to the work-focused updates. Ram’s launch announcement describes the changes and its capability claims.

These are manufacturer-published figures for the 2025 model, not independent measurements. Ram says the diesel-and-eight-speed combination allows a maximum tow rating of 36,610 pounds with a 3.42 rear axle ratio, whereas the previous maximum required a 4.10 ratio. Ram also cites a 6.9-second 0–60 mph time for a diesel 2500, compared with 8.0 seconds for the 2024 model. Those acceleration figures are the automaker’s comparison, not the result of an independent instrumented test. Cummins also announced the next-generation 6.7-liter pickup diesel.

How much can the 2025 Ram 2500 tow, and what can the 3500 handle?
Ram advertises a maximum 36,610-pound tow rating for diesel-equipped heavy-duty pickups and a maximum 7,590-pound payload for gas models. For the 3500, its headline trailer ratings are up to 36,610 pounds with a gooseneck and 23,000 pounds with a conventional hitch. These are configuration-dependent maximums, not ratings shared by every 2500 or 3500.
The appropriate rating varies with engine, cab, bed, drivetrain, axle, GVWR and rear-wheel configuration. Ram’s 2025 payload and towing chart lists values by configuration; use it to check the exact truck rather than relying on the lineup’s largest advertised number.

Match the rating to the load
- For a specific truck, check its configuration in the official chart and read its door-jamb payload label.
- For a conventional trailer, compare the truck’s applicable conventional tow rating with the trailer and hitch loads.
- For a fifth-wheel or gooseneck, use the rating for that towing method and account for the load carried by the truck. Confirm the truck’s tow-prep equipment and installed hitch; the presence of a listed package does not establish that a hitch is included.
- Do not choose a truck from the maximum alone: cab, bed, 4×2 or 4×4, single or dual rear wheels, axle and GVWR all affect the relevant rating.
Should you choose the Cummins diesel or the HEMI?
The choice depends on the job and the exact truck’s ratings. The diesel has the higher published torque and is associated with Ram’s maximum towing claim; the HEMI is the gasoline option and is associated with the maximum payload claim. Neither headline maximum should be taken as a promise for a particular truck. Compare the configuration-specific tow and payload figures with the trailer, hitch load and cargo you expect to carry.

What towing and cabin technology is available?
Towing visibility and maneuvering
Ram announced a 360-degree surround-view camera that can combine views from both sides of a trailer, plus trailer reverse guidance. An auxiliary exterior camera can be positioned in or behind a trailer. Available power-telescoping trailer mirrors are another visibility aid. Verify the equipment on the individual truck, since the announcement does not mean every feature is standard on every trim.

Displays and onboard power
Uconnect 5 is offered with an available 14.5-inch center touchscreen. Announced cabin equipment also includes a 10.25-inch passenger display, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a digital rearview mirror and dual wireless charging. A bed-mounted inverter can provide up to 2.4 kW through two covered 110-volt outlets. Ram’s 2025 buyer guide lists the manufacturer’s dimensions and specifications.
Driver-assistance features
Ram said adaptive cruise control, Forward Collision Warning-Plus and ParkSense front and rear park assist are new standard features on Big Horn and higher trims. The announcement also names Drowsy Driver Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition and Active Lane Management; it does not establish that all of these are standard on every version. Check a truck’s trim and equipment list before assuming a feature is fitted.

How much cargo space is in the bed?
The 2025 buyer guide lists two pickup bed lengths and their cargo volumes:

What was the announced starting price?
In its January 7, 2025 launch announcement, Ram listed a $47,560 starting price for the 2500, including destination, and said sales would begin in Q1 2025. That is launch-period MSRP, not a current quote. The available information does not establish current dealer pricing, incentives, inventory or a comparable 3500 base price.
