Is the 2025 Ram 1500 RHO the TRX replacement?
In Ram’s lineup, yes: RHO is the successor to the TRX’s performance-off-road mission. It is not a continuation of the TRX powertrain, however. The RHO uses a turbocharged six-cylinder and targets a different balance of output, mass and agility rather than repeating the TRX’s V8 identity.

The “T-Rex” wording in the title is a reference to the outgoing TRX-era truck. “Rhino” is a nickname suggested by the title, not an official expansion of the RHO name in the launch specifications.

Stellantis says the new powertrain is 150 pounds lighter than the previous performance model and improves weight distribution for agility. That is a manufacturer claim, not an independent weigh-in or handling test.

Hurricane powertrain and core specifications
The RHO’s engine is the 3.0-liter Hurricane High Output (H/O) Straight-Six Turbo, a twin-turbocharged inline-six. An eight-speed automatic transmission sends the power through the truck’s performance-oriented four-wheel-drive system.

Ram also describes a high-flow intake with a hood duct, a field-cleanable radial air filter and a sport-tuned, low-restriction exhaust with true dual pipes. Those details show where the truck’s hardware is aimed: sustained airflow, easier servicing in dirty environments and strong engine response during off-road use.

How fast is the RHO?
The clearest published acceleration numbers are for Mopar’s limited-edition ’25 RHO package. Mopar identifies these as package figures; they are not independent instrumented test results for every RHO.

Ram Canada says Launch Control Mode compares wheel speed with vehicle speed and adjusts engine power to maximize traction while limiting wheelspin during hard launches. It explains how the truck manages available power, but it should not be treated as a substitute for independent acceleration testing.
Off-road equipment and capability
The launch specifications establish a 32-inch maximum water-fording depth. The intake and exhaust hardware also support the RHO’s intended use in dust, mud and repeated high-load operation:
- A hood-ducted, high-flow intake helps supply air under demanding conditions.
- The radial air filter is designed to be cleaned in the field rather than treated as a one-time service item.
- The low-restriction exhaust uses true dual pipes and is tuned for the performance model.
- The manufacturer’s lighter-powertrain claim is intended to improve agility through a more favorable weight distribution.
Specific suspension-travel measurements, independent durability results and comparative off-road lap times are not established in the launch specifications, so they should not be inferred from the RHO name alone.

Towing and payload
The RHO remains useful as a pickup, but its maximum ratings are lower than those of some work-focused Ram configurations. Use the exact rating on the truck’s certification label for a particular cab, equipment package and trailer setup.

Remember that payload includes passengers, luggage, accessories and trailer tongue weight. A heavily equipped truck can have less usable payload than the published maximum.
Price and launch timing
Ram announced a launch MSRP of $69,995, before the $1,995 destination charge. That is the manufacturer’s 2024 launch pricing, not a guarantee of a later dealer transaction price, incentives or market adjustments. The launch release scheduled dealer arrival for the third quarter of 2024.

What is the Mopar ’25 RHO?
Mopar’s ’25 RHO is a separate factory-customized limited edition, not the name of every 2025 RHO. Mopar planned 250 units for the United States and Canada and markets the edition as an exclusive collectible vehicle.

How to evaluate the RHO against other performance pickups
Use the same questions for every truck rather than comparing horsepower alone:
- Powertrain character: The RHO’s defining change is a twin-turbo straight-six replacing the TRX-era V8 approach.
- Acceleration: Treat the figures above as Mopar-published package claims, and look for instrumented testing when comparing launches.
- Suspension and wheel travel: Verify measured travel, damping hardware and tire specifications; the launch material does not provide a primary wheel-travel number.
- Utility: Compare the documented 8,380-pound tow and 1,520-pound payload limits with the exact ratings of competing configurations.
- Water operation: The RHO’s stated limit is 32 inches; confirm how a rival defines and documents its figure.
- Ownership support: The launch information does not establish long-term reliability, owner satisfaction, fuel economy or real-world range.
Who should consider the 2025 RHO?
The RHO makes sense for a buyer who wants a desert- and trail-oriented full-size pickup with serious factory performance, usable towing capacity and the newer Hurricane six-cylinder strategy. The standard RHO is the broad production model; the Mopar ’25 version is the scarce choice for someone specifically seeking a numbered factory customization.
