The “2025 Porsche 718 Boxster EV” was not a confirmed 2025 production model. The images behind that label show an electric Boxster prototype photographed during winter testing in 2024. Porsche later confirmed plans for a future battery-electric two-door sports car in the 718 segment, but it has not announced the EV’s production specifications or a sale date.
What the 2024 spy shots show
Edmunds published photos of a lightly camouflaged prototype on March 1, 2024, describing it as a car undergoing cold-weather testing. The outlet noted that it was not production-ready. Its report identifies prototype-specific body panels, a charging port centered in the rear bumper, and taillights that differ from those of the previous Boxster. The headlights looked similar to those on the Taycan, but Edmunds treated that resemblance as an observation—not confirmation of the final design. See Edmunds’ 2024 report and photos.
These are details visible in or interpreted from prototype photographs, not specifications published by Porsche. Camouflage and provisional components mean the images cannot establish the final exterior design.
What changed in the later prototype photos
Car and Driver reported on September 11, 2026, on a later prototype photographed at the Nürburgring with substantially less camouflage. The report describes small covers around the headlights and a rear wrap that appears to depict faux taillights. It calls the photographs the clearest look yet at the convertible variant. What Porsche has confirmed—and what it has not
In a product-strategy announcement dated September 19, 2025, Porsche said its future battery-electric vehicle offering would include “the future two-door sports car in the 718 segment.” The statement confirms the company’s stated direction for the 718 segment; it does not name a specific Boxster EV reveal date, sale date, or production schedule. Porsche also said certain fully electric models would be introduced later.
“Mit den Modellen Taycan, Macan, Cayenne und dem zukünftigen zweitürigen Sportwagen im 718-Segment wird es ein attraktives BEV-Angebot geben.”

What remains unknown about the electric Boxster
The cited reports and Porsche announcement do not establish final production specifications. Edmunds offered estimates in its 2024 coverage, but Car and Driver still described the platform and powertrain as largely unknown in 2026. Neither report turns those estimates into confirmed Porsche specifications.

The model-year label can cause confusion: Porsche USA’s overview lists a 2025 base 718 Boxster with a gasoline engine and 300 hp.
