The 2025 Nissan Kicks SR is available with all-wheel drive for the first time, but AWD is a traction option—not a performance upgrade that turns this small crossover into a quick or proven winter vehicle. Nissan rates the SR AWD’s 2.0-liter engine at 141 hp and 140 lb-ft; MotorTrend recorded 0–60 mph in 10.4 seconds. Compared with the SR FWD, the AWD version has a lower EPA fuel-economy estimate, less cargo room and a higher original launch MSRP.
What AWD adds to the 2025 Kicks SR
The redesigned 2025 Kicks brought AWD to the model for the first time. Nissan offered it on S, SV and SR grades, and AWD versions add a Snow drive mode. Nissan says its Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system is intended to add confidence and control in many conditions, while cautioning that it cannot prevent collisions or provide enhanced traction in all conditions. Nissan’s 2025 Kicks press kit does not establish a measured snow- or ice-traction advantage.
The SR AWD uses a 2.0-liter four-cylinder rated by Nissan at 141 hp and 140 lb-ft, paired with the brand’s Xtronic continuously variable transmission (CVT). Nissan lists 8.4 inches of minimum ground clearance. That is a specification, not evidence that the Kicks is suited to off-road driving. Equipment varies by configuration: features such as 19-inch alloy wheels and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster are available, while the SR Premium Package is separate equipment.
How the SR AWD performs in independent tests
MotorTrend’s instrumented test
In its 2025 Kicks SR AWD test, MotorTrend measured 0–60 mph in 10.4 seconds. Its test vehicle weighed 3,312 pounds and completed the quarter-mile in 17.8 seconds at 79.7 mph. MotorTrend also measured a 127-foot 60–0 mph braking distance and 0.84 g average lateral acceleration. These are results from that outlet’s test vehicle and conditions, not Nissan ratings or a controlled comparison proving that AWD itself caused the acceleration result.

Consumer Guide’s everyday-use evaluation
Consumer Guide Automotive’s SR AWD evaluation covered a week and 171 miles, with the reviewer identifying the driving mix as 60% city and 40% highway. The vehicle returned 27.9 mpg in that evaluation. Consumer Guide described the 2.0-liter’s power as usable for routine driving and said it brought some added passing and merging ability, but not much reserve for quick maneuvers into traffic gaps. The outlet graded power and performance B− and fuel economy B+ against same-class vehicles. Its mileage is one short evaluation, not a forecast for every owner.
Consumer Guide also reported improved ride quality and reduced cabin noise compared with the previous Kicks, while noting that the cabin remained relatively noisy against rivals. Its reviewer could not assess AWD in winter conditions, so neither this review nor MotorTrend’s test establishes how well the system performs on snow or ice. Nissan’s Snow mode description is manufacturer information, not independent winter testing.

The economy and space figures are from Nissan’s 2025 Kicks brochure; the launch prices were published by Nissan on August 13, 2024. AWD gives up 1 mpg in each EPA category, 5.3 cubic feet of cargo space with the rear seats up and 8.4 cubic feet with them folded. Rear legroom is unchanged.
The SR AWD’s $27,680 launch MSRP was $1,500 above the SR FWD’s $26,180. Those are historical manufacturer prices, not current dealer quotes. Both were listed before the $1,390 destination and handling charge, taxes, title, license, options and dealer-set actual price. Nissan’s August 13, 2024 launch announcement listed the S AWD at $23,330 and SV AWD at $25,330 as well.

Which SR should you choose?
- Consider SR AWD if the added AWD capability and Snow mode suit your driving conditions enough to justify the original price premium, lower EPA estimates and reduced cargo capacity. Nissan does not claim that the system guarantees traction in every condition.
- Consider SR FWD if maximizing cargo room and fuel economy matters more than having AWD. Its rear-seat and folded-seat cargo figures are higher, while rear legroom matches the AWD model.
- Check the actual vehicle’s equipment before comparing prices. The SR Premium Package was listed at $1,950 at launch and included a panoramic moonroof, Bose 10-speaker audio, heated front seats and steering wheel, a front central seat-mounted air bag, remote engine start and rain-sensing wipers. Those items should not be assumed to be standard on every SR AWD.
Nissan listed an AWD cargo mat as an accessory for S, SV and SR. If buying one, verify that the specific mat fits the vehicle’s AWD configuration.
