2025 Nissan Armada: Why It Deserves a Look Before an Infiniti QX80 or Lexus LX 600

The redesigned 2025 Nissan Armada brings 425 hp, up to 8,500 pounds of advertised towing and a first PRO-4X grade. Here is what its announced pricing and equipment establish—and what you still need to verify against a QX80 or LX 600.

Yes—the 2025 Nissan Armada can make you reconsider an Infiniti QX80 or Lexus LX 600, but not because a verified, like-for-like price gap has been established. Nissan gives the redesigned Armada a 425-hp twin-turbo V6, available four-wheel drive, a first-ever PRO-4X off-road grade and an advertised maximum tow rating of 8,500 pounds. Its announced U.S. MSRP runs from $57,520 to $79,990 before destination, tax and dealer pricing. To decide whether it is the right substitute, compare equivalent 2025 trims and drivetrains, then confirm current QX80 and LX 600 quotes and equipment rather than comparing one vehicle’s base price with another’s luxury trim.

What the 2025 Armada costs in the United States

Nissan announced the following model-year 2025 U.S. MSRPs on November 18, 2024. Each figure excludes the $1,895 destination and handling charge, tax, title, license and any dealer adjustment. Adding destination shows the pre-tax amount before dealer pricing; it is not a current transaction quote.

Grade Drive MSRP MSRP plus $1,895 destination
SV 4×2 $57,520 $59,415
SL 4×2 $62,970 $64,865
Platinum 4×2 $69,930 $71,825
Platinum Reserve 4×2 $76,990 $78,885
SV 4×4 $59,520 $61,415
SL 4×4 $65,970 $67,865
Platinum 4×4 $72,930 $74,825
PRO-4X 4×4 $73,740 $75,635
Platinum Reserve 4×4 $79,990 $81,885

Nissan states that prices and specifications may change and that the dealer sets the actual selling price. These announced figures therefore establish the Armada’s model-year positioning, not what every shopper will pay in October 2026.

The mechanical case: 425 hp, nine speeds and up to 8,500 pounds

Twin-turbo V6 output

Every 2025 Armada uses a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged, direct-injected V6 rated at 425 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 516 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm. A nine-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters is standard. That gives the Armada a clear performance specification to put alongside the engine, transmission and tow rating of a specific QX80 or LX 600—not merely against a model name.

Towing limits depend on configuration

Nissan advertises a maximum tow rating of 8,500 pounds and describes a Class IV hitch with 7-pin wiring and harness as standard. The maximum is not universal to every grade or drivetrain: capacity varies by configuration. Nissan directs owners to the towing guide and owner’s manual, and warns that cargo and load capacity are constrained by total weight and its distribution.

  • Use the tow rating for the exact VIN, engine, drivetrain and equipment.
  • Subtract passengers, luggage, accessories and tongue weight from the vehicle’s payload.
  • Check the trailer’s loaded weight, tongue-weight percentage, hitch rating and the tow vehicle’s gross combined limits.
  • Do not treat 8,500 pounds as a target if the vehicle’s payload or axle limits are reached first.

Fuel economy and physical size

Configuration EPA city EPA highway EPA combined
2WD SV, SL, Platinum and Platinum Reserve 16 mpg 20 mpg 18 mpg
4WD SV, SL, Platinum and Platinum Reserve 16 mpg 19 mpg 17 mpg
4WD PRO-4X 15 mpg 18 mpg 16 mpg

These are official EPA estimates from Nissan’s 2025 brochure, not guaranteed real-world results. Driving style, weather, cargo, tires and trailer use can lower them. The 2025 Armada measures 121.1 inches between the axles, 209.6 inches long and 83.3 inches wide with the mirrors folded (92.5 inches with them open). Seating is available for seven or eight, depending on whether the second row has captain’s chairs or a bench.

What makes the Armada PRO-4X different

PRO-4X is not simply a cosmetic package. Nissan equips it for slower, rougher terrain with:

  • All-terrain tires
  • Underbody skid plates
  • An electronic locking rear differential
  • Adaptive electronic air suspension
  • An increased approach angle compared with road-focused versions

That equipment can justify choosing PRO-4X when trails, loose surfaces or underbody clearance matter. It also carries the 4WD PRO-4X fuel-economy estimate of 15/18/16 mpg and a $73,740 announced MSRP before destination. If your use is mostly pavement, towing on maintained roads and family transport, compare its cost and tire, suspension and maintenance implications with a similarly equipped luxury-oriented trim instead of assuming the off-road hardware is free value.

How to compare it with a QX80 or LX 600 without fooling yourself

Nissan’s published figures do not establish matched 2025 U.S. MSRP, drivetrain, standard equipment or ownership costs for the Infiniti QX80 and Lexus LX 600. That means a defensible dollar-savings claim or feature-by-feature winner cannot be stated here. Build the comparison around the exact vehicles you can buy:

Comparison item What to verify on each quote Why it matters
Purchase price Same model year, trim, drivetrain, destination, fees, incentives and dealer add-ons A base 2WD Armada is not a fair match for a loaded 4WD luxury SUV.
Powertrain Horsepower, torque, transmission, fuel requirement and warranty Engine output alone does not show towing or operating cost.
Towing Exact configuration’s rating, payload, hitch equipment and trailer-brake provisions The Armada’s 8,500-pound figure varies by configuration.
Cabin and cargo Seven- versus eight-seat layout, usable cargo behind each row and access to the third row Seat count does not describe everyday space or loading ease.
Fuel economy EPA city/highway/combined rating for the chosen drivetrain Small drivetrain changes affect a large SUV’s annual fuel bill.
Comfort and technology Which cameras, audio, climate, seating, displays and materials are standard versus optional Luxury-equipment differences can erase an apparent price advantage.
Driver assistance Included functions, activation requirements, trial periods and subscription terms A feature that requires a paid connected service is not equivalent to one included permanently.
Off-road hardware Low-range gearing, locking differentials, suspension, tires and underbody protection Appearance packages do not deliver the same capability as functional hardware.
Ownership Insurance, fuel, tires, service, warranty, depreciation and connected-service fees Purchase price is only one part of the cost.

ProPILOT Assist 2.1 and connected-service costs

Nissan says ProPILOT Assist 2.1 requires consumer activation of the NissanConnect Services package. The package includes a trial, after which a monthly subscription fee applies. Under qualifying conditions it can allow an attentive driver to take hands off the wheel during single-lane freeway operation, but the driver must continue monitoring traffic and be ready to take control. Confirm the current trial length, fee and included functions on the purchase paperwork; connected-service terms can change.

Roof-rail accessories and payload reality

Nissan lists genuine roof-rail crossbars with a maximum load of 165 pounds. That limit applies to the accessory system under Nissan’s stated conditions, not automatically to every third-party rack or to a moving vehicle’s roof dynamic load. Confirm the Armada’s rail configuration, crossbar fitment, installation instructions and the static-versus-dynamic limit before buying an accessory.

Which Armada makes sense for which buyer?

Choose an SV 4×2 when price and basic capability lead

At the announced $57,520 MSRP, the SV 4×2 is the entry point. It is the logical starting quote for a buyer who does not need 4WD or PRO-4X equipment, but its final value depends on the comfort, towing and driver-assistance equipment you actually require.

Choose 4×4 for traction, not for a paper comparison

The 4×4 versions add $2,000 to the announced SV MSRP and have a 17-mpg combined estimate in most grades versus 18 mpg for the corresponding 2WD grades. Select 4×4 when weather, terrain, boat ramps or work-site access justify it, then compare that exact configuration with the QX80 or LX 600 you are considering.

Choose PRO-4X for genuine trail use

The locking differential, all-terrain tires, skid plates and adaptive air suspension make PRO-4X the Armada for buyers who will use those systems. It is not automatically the best family or highway value simply because it is the most distinctive grade.

Choose Platinum or Platinum Reserve for a luxury-equipment brief

These grades move the Armada toward the comfort and finish that attract QX80 and LX 600 shoppers. Request an itemized equipment list and an out-the-door quote; without matched competitor data, the right conclusion depends on which amenities you value and what each dealer is actually offering.

A practical buying sequence

  1. Write down your required seats, trailer weight, annual mileage, road conditions and must-have safety or comfort features.
  2. Get an itemized out-the-door quote for one Armada trim and drivetrain, including the $1,895 destination charge and every dealer fee.
  3. Obtain equivalent 2025 QX80 and LX 600 quotes with the same drivetrain assumptions and comparable equipment.
  4. Check each vehicle’s VIN-specific tow rating, payload and tire information if towing or roof cargo is involved.
  5. Price fuel, insurance, scheduled service, replacement tires and any connected-service subscription over the ownership period.
  6. Drive all finalists with the family, car seats, trailer or cargo you actually use; third-row access and ride comfort are difficult to judge from a specification sheet.

The decision

The 2025 Armada is a serious alternative because it combines a strong 425-hp/516-lb-ft powertrain, up to 8,500 pounds of advertised towing and a purpose-built PRO-4X grade with a published MSRP range that starts below its own high-end trims. It earns a place on the same shopping list as the Infiniti QX80 and Lexus LX 600. It does not, based on the published figures above, prove a specific dollar saving or a universal feature advantage. The smart purchase is the vehicle that wins after matched trim, drivetrain, equipment, payload, operating costs and real dealer quotes are placed side by side.
