The 2025 Nissan Armada is a complete redesign with a twin-turbo V6, stronger towing hardware and a new PRO-4X off-road model. It delivers quick acceleration for a three-row, body-on-frame SUV, while pricing, fuel economy and ride comfort vary significantly by trim and wheel size.
What is new for 2025?
Nissan replaces the previous Armada’s V8 with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 and adds a nine-speed automatic transmission. The redesign also brings the PRO-4X and Platinum Reserve grades to the lineup, updated interior technology and a broader set of terrain modes.

How the grades differ
- SV: The value-oriented entry point, available with rear- or four-wheel drive.
- SL: Adds equipment and convenience features while keeping a lower price than the luxury-focused grades.
- Platinum: Emphasizes premium cabin appointments and technology.
- Platinum Reserve: The most luxurious model, with distinctive trim and available 22-inch wheels.
- PRO-4X: The dedicated off-road model, offered only with four-wheel drive.
Engine, transmission and acceleration
The new 3.5-liter DOHC 24-valve V6 uses direct injection and twin turbochargers. It produces 425 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 516 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm. A nine-speed automatic sends power to the rear wheels or to an intelligent four-wheel-drive system with a two-speed transfer case.

Independent instrumented testing shows the Armada is genuinely quick for its size:
| Vehicle tested | 0–60 mph | Source and qualification |
|---|---|---|
| PRO-4X | 5.9 seconds | Car and Driver instrumented test |
| Platinum Reserve | 6.1 seconds | Car and Driver instrumented test |
| Armada configurations generally | 6.5–6.8 seconds estimated | MotorTrend estimate |
MotorTrend reported that the V6 pulled a 6,500-pound Airstream to interstate speeds confidently. Tow mode increases steering effort and supplies stronger engine braking. Car and Driver found acceleration strong and the redesigned chassis better controlled than the old Armada, although its Platinum Reserve test vehicle showed some jittery body motions on 22-inch wheels. The PRO-4X’s 20-inch wheels delivered a more settled ride.
Towing capacity and equipment
Maximum rated towing is 8,500 pounds. Nissan equips every grade with a Class IV receiver and 7-pin trailer-wiring harness or pre-wiring, and lists an 850-pound maximum tongue weight.

Actual capacity depends on the specific vehicle, tow weight, road grade, weather, cargo and how the load is distributed. Check the vehicle’s certification label and follow Nissan’s towing instructions before exceeding any lower vehicle- or trailer-specific limit.

Fuel economy and real-world results
EPA estimates depend on drivetrain and, for four-wheel-drive models, whether the vehicle is the PRO-4X.
| Configuration | City | Highway | Combined |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2WD | 16 mpg | 20 mpg | 18 mpg |
| Most 4WD trims (SV, SL, Platinum, Platinum Reserve) | 16 mpg | 19 mpg | 17 mpg |
| PRO-4X 4WD | 15 mpg | 18 mpg | 16 mpg |
In Car and Driver’s 75-mph highway test, a Platinum Reserve returned 22 mpg and a PRO-4X returned 18 mpg. The same Platinum Reserve recorded 16 mpg in its observed overall driving. Those are results from particular vehicles and test conditions, not promises for every Armada.
Is the Armada PRO-4X good for off-roading?
Yes. PRO-4X is the Armada’s off-road specialist, not simply a cosmetic package. Its hardware includes 275/60R20 all-terrain tires, an off-road front bumper with tow hooks, a metal front skid plate, black overfenders, an electronic locking rear differential and adaptive electronic air suspension. The suspension and bumper design provide a more favorable approach angle than other Armada grades, although Nissan does not publish a single approach-angle figure in the supplied specifications.
The drive-mode selector offers eight settings:
- Standard
- Eco
- Sport
- Tow
- Snow
- Sand
- Rock
- Mud/Rut
An off-road information display helps the driver monitor vehicle systems and terrain settings. The locking rear differential and dedicated Rock and Mud/Rut modes are particularly useful where a conventional open differential or road-biased tire would struggle. The trade-off is lower EPA fuel economy than other four-wheel-drive trims and less road-focused tire behavior.

Interior, seating and cargo practicality
The Armada seats eight with its second-row bench or seven with second-row captain’s chairs. It has a 121.1-inch wheelbase, a 209.6-inch overall length and a 23.6-gallon fuel tank.
In Car and Driver’s test vehicle, six carry-on suitcases fit behind the third row and 24 fit with the third row folded. Platinum Reserve materials give the cabin a distinctly luxury-SUV feel, while the large exterior dimensions preserve useful passenger and cargo space for towing or family travel.

Safety Shield 360 is standard across the range. Available technology varies by grade and package, with upper trims offering ProPILOT Assist 2.1, the 14.3-inch NissanConnect touchscreen, Google built-in services, wireless smartphone integration and a 12-speaker Klipsch premium audio system.
When comparing trims, verify the window sticker for the exact vehicle: Nissan’s availability of the larger display, audio system and advanced driver-assistance features depends on grade and equipment.

Which 2025 Armada makes sense?
Choose SV or SL for value
These trims provide the same 425-hp powertrain and full-size towing capability at the lowest prices. The four-wheel-drive upgrade costs $2,000 on the SV and $3,000 on the SL, before destination and other charges.
Choose Platinum or Platinum Reserve for luxury
These grades prioritize premium materials and technology. Platinum Reserve is the most expensive option and its available 22-inch wheels can introduce a firmer, less settled ride than the PRO-4X’s 20-inch setup.
Choose PRO-4X for difficult terrain
PRO-4X is the right choice when all-terrain tires, a locking rear differential, underbody protection and terrain-specific suspension tuning matter more than maximum fuel economy or the softest highway ride.
2025 Nissan Armada verdict
The redesigned Armada combines a powerful twin-turbo V6, an 8,500-pound tow rating and credible off-road hardware in one three-row SUV. Its strongest case is the breadth of the lineup: SV and SL cover value, Platinum grades add luxury, and PRO-4X brings real trail equipment. Buyers should budget for the $1,895 destination charge, expect fuel economy in the mid-to-high teens, and select wheel size and drivetrain with ride quality and terrain use in mind.
