The 2025 MINI Cooper S 2-door keeps its compact, quick-turning character but adds a more powerful-feeling turbocharged drivetrain and a dramatically more digital cabin. The changes are substantial; they do not make the car flawless. Independent 2-door reviews found lively cornering, but also torque steer, a choppy ride in one driving mode and occasional infotainment lag. This review focuses on the U.S.-market gasoline Cooper S 2-door, not the separately tested four-door.
What changed for 2025?
The redesigned 2-door Cooper S pairs its familiar small-car footprint with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder rated by MINI at 201 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. In the U.S., it comes with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. MINI quotes a 0–60 mph time of 6.3 seconds. Those are manufacturer specifications and a manufacturer acceleration claim, not independent test results. MINI USA’s 2024 announcement and its Cooper 2-door product page describe the U.S. car.
The most visible cabin update is a 9.4-inch round OLED display running MINI Operating System 9. It serves as the central touchscreen for digital functions, while Experience Modes can project lighting effects onto the dashboard. The change gives the cabin a distinct focal point and more screen-based interaction; it also makes the usability of the interface a bigger part of the driving experience.
How quick is the Cooper S?
Car and Driver instrumented a 2025 Cooper S 2-door and recorded 5.8 seconds to 60 mph, a 14.4-second quarter-mile at 99 mph, and 0.89 g on the skidpad. Its 0–60 result is quicker than MINI’s 6.3-second claim, but the figures come from different sources and conditions: one is the manufacturer’s quoted time, the other an outlet’s test result. Car and Driver’s test was updated September 25, 2024.

On the road, Car and Driver found the Cooper S punchy and reasonably nimble, but reported persistent torque steer under acceleration. Its tester also described a choppy ride in Go-Kart mode. Edmunds, driving a separate 2-door from Yakima to Seattle, observed little body roll during harder cornering; its test car’s Pirelli Cinturato P7 summer tires contributed grip, so that observation should not be assumed to describe every trim or tire setup. Edmunds’ first drive covers that route and car.
These impressions point to a car that can feel agile and composed through corners, without being uniformly polished. Torque steer can tug at the steering under power, and ride comfort depends in part on the mode and setup. The available 2-door reports are not a controlled comparison across every configuration.

Does the new cabin work well?
The OLED screen and MINI Operating System 9 make the redesigned interior feel more contemporary and put many functions within a central touchscreen. Car and Driver nevertheless reported occasional infotainment lag and awkward climate-temperature adjustments. That distinction matters: a striking display does not automatically make routine controls easier, particularly when adjusting temperature requires interacting with the screen.
Car and Driver measured 72 dB at 70 mph in its tested car. That is a result from one instrumented vehicle, not a guarantee of the noise level in every Cooper S. The same review’s test car was an optioned Iconic model; its listed $37,295 price is not the starting price.

What do four-door reviews add—and not add?
MotorTrend’s road-test impressions are from a Cooper S Hardtop Four-Door, not the 2-door reviewed here. The publication recorded 6.1 seconds to 60 mph in its four-door test and described a settled ride and modern cabin. Its road-test editor also felt that the car had lost some of the raw go-kart character associated with earlier MINIs. That is a useful perspective on the broader redesign, but neither the acceleration result nor the ride assessment should be presented as a 2-door test finding. MINI announced a U.S. starting MSRP of $32,200 plus $995 destination and handling in 2024. That is the launch price, not a current dealer quote; inventory, equipment and transaction prices can change. The $37,295 figure in Car and Driver’s review applies to its specifically equipped Iconic test car and is not directly comparable to the launch base MSRP.

Who is the 2025 Cooper S 2-door for?
The 2-door makes the strongest case for drivers who want a compact car with a lively turbo engine, agile cornering and a distinctive, technology-forward cabin. Its improvements are concrete in the powertrain specifications and OLED-based interface. The driving character is more mixed: independent 2-door reviewers found nimbleness and grip, while also calling out torque steer, mode-dependent ride harshness and digital-control frustrations. Whether that balance feels like an upgrade depends on how much you value sharp responses and novelty against comfort and straightforward controls.
