The 2025 Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe is a convincing performance grand tourer: quick on paper, technically sophisticated and better balanced between comfort and sport than its aggressive styling suggests. Mercedes positions it between the C-Class and E-Class, combining the former’s agility with the latter’s elegance. The “CLK is back” comparison works as a description of the car’s role, not its mechanical identity—the CLE is a new model line, not a renamed or mechanically identical CLK.
What the 2025 AMG CLE 53 offers
The U.S.-market CLE 53 uses AMG’s enhanced 2,999-cc (3.0-liter) turbocharged inline-six. A 48-volt integrated starter generator (ISG) and an electric auxiliary compressor help the engine respond quickly and fill in low-speed torque. Mercedes rates the system at 443 horsepower from 5,800 to 6,100 rpm and 413 lb-ft from 2,200 to 5,000 rpm, with 443 lb-ft briefly available through overboost.
The ISG can provide up to 23 hp and 151 lb-ft, while also handling recuperation, load-point shifting, gliding and stop-start operation. It is a mild-hybrid assist system, not an electric-drive mode or an indication that the CLE 53 can operate as an EV.
Power goes through a nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT transmission to fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. That combination gives the CLE 53 the broad-weather traction expected of a modern AMG while allowing the system to vary torque distribution rather than locking the car into a fixed front/rear split.

Official performance and efficiency figures
Mercedes-Benz lists a 4.2-second estimated 0–60-mph time for the 2025 Coupe. Optional RACE START reduces the estimate to 4.0 seconds. These are manufacturer specifications, not independently measured test results.

The figures explain the CLE 53’s mission. It is substantially faster than a conventional luxury coupe, but its emphasis is usable all-weather pace rather than an uncompromising track setup. Actual acceleration, fuel economy and handling depend on tires, weather, surface and equipment.
Chassis hardware and road manners
Adaptive AMG RIDE CONTROL damping, 2.5-degree rear-axle steering and high-performance brakes are listed as standard on the 2025 Coupe. Rear steering can make a long 191-inch car feel more manageable in tight turns while adding stability at speed. The fully variable all-wheel-drive system provides another layer of confidence when the road is wet or temperatures are low.

Mercedes describes the tuning as a blend of AMG C-Class sportiness and AMG E-Class elegance. That is a useful description of the car’s intended character: responsive enough for a winding road, yet equipped to cover long distances without the constant harshness associated with a track-biased coupe.
What the Dynamic Plus package changes
Dynamic Plus is optional rather than standard on the Coupe. It adds RACE START, a RACE drive program with Drift mode, active engine mounts, red brake calipers and a microfiber AMG Performance steering wheel.
Drift mode is an option-specific, closed-course feature that changes the car’s behavior for track use. It is not a reason to treat public roads as a test facility, and it should not be confused with the normal operation of 4MATIC+.

Interior, technology and everyday usability
Standard equipment listed in Mercedes-Benz’s 2025 U.S. guide includes 19-inch AMG wheels, five DYNAMIC SELECT programs, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, an 11.9-inch center display and a 360-degree camera. The cabin’s large screens and extensive menus deliver the expected luxury-car technology, although Car and Driver notes that the infotainment system takes time to learn.
The Coupe’s 9.8 cubic feet of cargo space is adequate for a weekend’s luggage but does not make the CLE 53 a practical substitute for a sedan or SUV. Its dimensions—191 inches long, 76.2 inches wide excluding mirrors (80 inches including them), 56.5 inches high and a 113.2-inch wheelbase—also matter in garages and urban parking spaces.

The 2025 AMG CLE 53 Cabriolet is the open-top alternative, but its specifications should not be treated as Coupe figures. The Cabriolet is heavier, slower in Mercedes’ estimates, slightly less efficient and has less cargo room.

The Cabriolet is the choice for buyers who prioritize open-air touring. The Coupe is the sharper value and the lighter, quicker body style on the published figures.

Car and Driver identifies the Audi S5 and BMW M440i as the CLE 53’s principal rivals. The Mercedes differentiates itself with standard rear-axle steering, adaptive damping and fully variable all-wheel drive, while Dynamic Plus reserves its most overtly track-oriented equipment for an option package.
Edmunds describes the broader CLE range as comfortable, well appointed and powerful, while noting that it can feel less athletic than some coupes. Its detailed road-behavior and 4.5-second measured acceleration discussion concerns a CLE 450 test car, not the AMG CLE 53, so that result should not be assigned to this model. Independent testing of a specific CLE 53 may produce different acceleration and handling results from Mercedes’ estimates.

Price and what “how much should I pay?” means
Mercedes-Benz’s 2025 U.S. guide listed the Coupe at $74,300 MSRP, before a $1,150 destination and delivery charge. That is a model-year list price, not a guaranteed current transaction figure. Options, taxes, registration, dealer fees, incentives, location and remaining inventory can change the amount a buyer actually pays.
Use the published MSRP as a baseline when comparing listings, then request an itemized out-the-door quote from a Mercedes-Benz dealer. A time-sensitive estimate shown on a shopping site or in one geographic market should not be treated as a universal national price.
Ownership details worth confirming
The cited Mercedes maintenance supplement lists an 8.0-liter oil-change fill including the filter and specifies MB-Approval 229.71 or 229.72 for the listed AMG model. Confirm the exact requirement in the manual for the vehicle’s market and VIN before service, because fluids and capacities can vary by specification.

The 2025 Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 Coupe is a strong answer to the question “Is the CLE a good car?” if the priority is a stylish two-door that can combine brisk performance, all-weather traction and long-distance comfort. Its standard chassis technology gives it genuine dynamic credibility, while the optional Dynamic Plus package lets buyers add more track-focused behavior without making every car unnecessarily extreme. The main qualifications are its substantial curb weight, modest cargo area and the fact that Mercedes’ acceleration numbers remain estimates until an independent test verifies them.
