The LS 500 starts at a lower published U.S. MSRP and pairs a 416-hp twin-turbo V6 with rear- or all-wheel drive. Mercedes offers a broader S-Class lineup, including a V8, a plug-in hybrid and an AMG performance model, but its S 500 is listed only with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. For a straightforward comparison, start with the LS 500 and S 500 4MATIC; consider the other versions separately because they are not like-for-like alternatives.
How do the 2025 LS 500 and S 500 compare?
The closest starting point is the gasoline-powered LS 500 versus the S 500 4MATIC. The Lexus is available with rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive; Mercedes-Benz’s U.S. model-year lineup lists the S 500 with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. Their published base prices and specifications therefore describe different configurations, not a perfectly matched comparison.
| Specification | 2025 Lexus LS 500 | 2025 Mercedes-Benz S 500 4MATIC |
|---|---|---|
| Published U.S. price | $81,685 starting MSRP, announced by Lexus for model year 2025; Lexus says this includes Delivery, Processing and Handling. | $117,750, listed by Mercedes-Benz USA in its model-year 2025 pricing overview. | EPA fuel economy | 18 city / 27 highway / 21 combined mpg in the secondary TrueCar comparison; configuration and rating details should be checked for the exact car | 20 city / 29 highway / 23 combined mpg in the secondary TrueCar comparison; configuration and rating details should be checked for the exact car |

Lexus announced its LS pricing in 2024 for the 2025 model year; Mercedes-Benz USA’s figures are model-year 2025 prices. These are manufacturer-published list figures, not October 2026 offers, negotiated transaction prices or used-car values. Since the LS figure explicitly includes delivery-related charges while the Mercedes source’s treatment of destination is not established here, avoid treating the difference between the two numbers as an exact apples-to-apples price premium.
What does each car offer for power and drivetrains?
Lexus LS 500: one gas engine, two drive layouts
The LS 500 uses a 3.4-liter twin-turbocharged V6 rated by Lexus at 416 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic. Lexus quotes a 0–60 mph time of 4.6 seconds. Rear-wheel drive is available, while the all-wheel-drive version uses a Torsen limited-slip center differential. Buyers should compare the specific drivetrain they intend to purchase rather than assume the published base price covers AWD.

Mercedes-Benz S 500: the entry point to a wider range
The S 500 4MATIC is the closest conventional gasoline counterpart in the U.S. lineup, but it is only one of several S-Class powertrains. Mercedes-Benz’s model-year overview also lists the V8 S 580 4MATIC, plug-in-hybrid S 580e 4MATIC and AMG S 63 E PERFORMANCE. The TrueCar comparison reports 442 hp for the S-Class configuration it compares, but that secondary figure should not be generalized across the range or treated as a confirmed S 500 specification without checking the matching trim documentation.
How do the LS 500h and S-Class alternatives differ?
The LS 500h and Mercedes’ other S-Class variants are distinct choices, not direct substitutes for the LS 500 and S 500 comparison. Their prices, powertrains and equipment represent different priorities.

The model-year prices above are manufacturer-announced or listed figures, not current dealer quotes. Lexus also identifies Lexus Teammate functions including Advanced Drive and Advanced Park for the LS 500h. Confirm availability and exact equipment on the particular vehicle; the hybrid’s technology package does not make it equivalent to the plug-in S 580e or high-performance AMG.
Which car has more standard driver-assistance and technology?
The manufacturers describe different equipment, but those descriptions do not establish which sedan is safer or more effective in real-world use. Lexus says gasoline LS models include Lexus Safety System+ 3.0, while the LS 500h has Safety System+ 2.5. Mercedes-Benz says 2025 S-Class standard equipment adds a digital vehicle key and a center airbag between the front seats. These are not directly comparable feature lists, and individual equipment can depend on trim, options and market.

TrueCar’s comparison lists adaptive cruise control and premium audio as standard on the configurations it compares. Because that is a secondary source and the exact trim and package context can matter, check the window sticker or official specification for the individual vehicle rather than assuming every LS or S-Class has identical equipment.

Rear-seat equipment and cabin feel
Flagship-sedan comfort depends on the exact trim and options, especially if the rear seat will be used regularly. Compare the cars in person for seat adjustment, legroom, climate controls, entertainment features and ease of entry. Ride comfort, cabin quietness, interface usability and seat comfort are subjective; the specifications here do not establish a winner, so a test drive is the useful next step.

Fuel use and warranty
TrueCar’s side-by-side page reports 18/27/21 mpg for the LS and 20/29/23 mpg for the S-Class, along with a four-year/50,000-mile basic warranty for both. Treat the fuel figures as secondary-source comparison values, not as guarantees for every drivetrain or a promise of individual fuel costs. Confirm EPA ratings for the exact model and drivetrain, and review each manufacturer’s warranty documentation for coverage details and exclusions.
The supplied model-year sources do not establish a directly comparable scheduled-maintenance plan or total ownership-cost estimate. Fuel prices, insurance, options, service needs and depreciation vary; no ownership-cost statistic here can settle those differences for a particular buyer.

Which 2025 luxury sedan is the better fit?
- Choose the LS 500 as a starting point if a lower published entry MSRP, the Lexus twin-turbo V6 and a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive match your priorities.
- Look closely at the S 500 4MATIC if you want the Mercedes flagship with AWD as standard in the listed U.S. configuration.
- Consider the LS 500h if you want Lexus’ V6 hybrid powertrain, AWD and its listed Teammate features.
- Consider another S-Class version if a V8, plug-in hybrid or AMG performance model is central to your decision; these occupy different price and powertrain positions from the S 500.
Before deciding, compare vehicles with matching equipment, verify the precise drivetrain and window-sticker price, and test-drive the versions you are considering. The 2025 LS was a carryover model, which Lexus described as continuing unchanged from the prior model year; that statement is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent assessment.
