The KTM 390 SMC R is a small-displacement supermoto built around 17-inch wheels, long-travel suspension, a single-cylinder engine and selectable ABS modes. Those parts explain the “compact package” description; they do not, by themselves, establish how comfortable, durable or capable the motorcycle feels on the road. KTM announced the 2025 model in January 2025, while its current U.S. listing is for model year 2026, with different pricing and some year-specific feature descriptions.
What makes the 390 SMC R a supermoto?
KTM’s 2025 launch announcement describes a road-focused supermoto setup: 17-inch wheels wearing Michelin Power 6 tires, long-travel WP APEX suspension, large disc brakes and selectable electronic settings. The package is compact in the sense that it uses a 398.7 cc single-cylinder engine rather than a large multi-cylinder powerplant; “fun” is a design intent, not an independently measured performance result.
- Wheels and tires: KTM names Michelin Power 6 as original equipment. Cycle News lists 110/70-17 front and 150/60-17 rear sizes for its 2025 specification table.
- Suspension: KTM specifies a 43 mm WP APEX open-cartridge fork with 230 mm travel and adjustment in five-click increments. The rear shock has 20 rebound clicks. Cycle News reports approximately 9.05 inches of travel at both ends.
- Brakes: KTM lists a 320 mm front disc and 240 mm rear disc.
- Rider aids: The 2025 announcement describes selectable Street and Sport modes and switchable traction control. In Sport mode, it lists Road, Supermoto and Supermoto+ ABS options.
These are manufacturer feature descriptions and published specifications, not evidence of measured handling, stopping distance or ride comfort. KTM’s January 14, 2025 launch announcement and Cycle News’ January 16, 2025 specification coverage describe the launch model.
2025 and 2026 U.S. specifications and price
The figures below come from different sources and model years, so they should not be treated as a single specification sheet. Cycle News reported the 2025 launch figures; KTM’s current U.S. page lists the 2026 model. KTM cautions that specifications can vary by country.

The 2025 and 2026 prices are U.S.-market figures, not out-the-door totals or prices that apply in other countries. KTM’s current U.S. listing is the 2026 KTM 390 SMC R model page; verify local price, equipment and availability with a dealer.
What are the practical equipment details?
KTM’s current U.S. 2026 page lists a 4.2-inch TFT display, music, calls and navigation functions, USB charging, two-position adjustable footpegs and an 860 mm flat seat. These are listed features, not a test of interface usability or rider comfort.

KTM’s 2025 setup instructions give fuel capacity as approximately 9 L (2.4 U.S. gallons). The ordinary versions specify super unleaded ROZ 95; a Brazil CKD variant lists ROZ 95/RON 95/PON 91. Because the document covers regional model codes and says specifications may be adapted to local conditions, check the owner documentation for the exact motorcycle rather than applying the Brazil fuel notation to every market. KTM’s manuals and setup-instructions page provides official documentation access.
Which replacement front tire is listed?
For the 2025 model, Cycle News lists a Michelin Power 6 front tire in 110/70-17. KTM independently identifies the Power 6 family as original equipment. Before ordering a Michelin Power 6 110/70-17 front tire, confirm the exact model year and regional fitment with the motorcycle’s manual or a KTM dealer; an original-equipment listing is not a guarantee that every market or later model year uses the same specification.

What the published specifications do—and do not—tell you
The specifications establish the motorcycle’s layout and listed equipment, but the sources cited here do not provide an independent instrumented ride test or a named rival comparison. They therefore do not establish real-world acceleration, fuel economy, range, comfort, reliability, durability or comparative handling. The 2025 showroom-arrival statement was a forecast made at launch, not confirmation of present-day inventory.
