The 2025 Kia Telluride ranked highest in the Upper Midsize SUV segment of J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. Initial Quality Study (IQS). The result recognizes reported problems during the first 90 days of ownership; it is not a ranking of long-term reliability or an overall “best vehicle” award. Kia America’s announcement and J.D. Power’s award listing identify the segment win.
What the 2025 Telluride award means
J.D. Power’s IQS compares initial quality within vehicle segments. In its 2025 U.S. study, the Telluride took the top position in the Upper Midsize SUV segment. Kia announced the result on June 26, 2025, and J.D. Power’s award page also lists the Telluride as the segment winner. This is a segment-specific ranking, not a claim that the Telluride was the highest-ranked vehicle overall.
The published order for the segment was:
- Kia Telluride — highest ranked
- Subaru Ascent
- Hyundai Palisade and Nissan Pathfinder — tied
These are the positions reported in J.D. Power’s 2025 U.S. IQS release.
What J.D. Power’s Initial Quality Study measures
The IQS concerns problems owners report during the first 90 days of vehicle ownership. Kia’s release says the 2025 study analyzed responses from 92,694 respondents and covered 182 rank-eligible models across 25 segments. Hyundai Motor Group describes the study population as purchasers and lessees of new 2025 model-year vehicles, with responses collected during those first 90 days. The study expresses quality as problems per 100 vehicles (PP100); a lower PP100 score indicates higher initial quality. Kia America and Hyundai Motor Group provide these study details.

What the award does not establish
A first-90-days result does not establish how a vehicle will hold up over years of use. The award alone does not prove long-term reliability or durability, lower ownership costs, or that the Telluride is superior in every feature. The cited public information does not provide a Telluride-specific PP100 score or a detailed breakdown of its reported problems, so the ranking should not be read as evidence of a particular score or issue count.
How the result compares with 2024
In J.D. Power’s 2024 U.S. IQS release, the Telluride was tied among the highest-ranked Upper Midsize SUVs. In 2025 it appeared alone at the top of the segment. That supports a comparison of the published rankings between years, but it does not show how much the Telluride’s score changed: the reviewed material does not provide a Telluride-specific score for this comparison. See the 2024 U.S. IQS release.

The award is useful if your question is which Upper Midsize SUV ranked highest for reported problems in its first 90 days in this study. It cannot settle a broader purchase decision. Compare the price, trim and equipment that fit your needs, review safety information, and consider evidence about longer-term ownership separately.
