The 2025 Kia K4 succeeds the Forte in Kia’s U.S. lineup, with five trims, generous passenger space and standard wireless smartphone integration. Its launch MSRP started at $21,990 before destination, but that is a historical price—not a current dealer quote. Kia’s specifications make the K4’s fuel economy easy to compare by trim; an Edmunds comparison reported by the Associated Press adds an important caveat: the sedan’s room and technology come with powertrain, ride and noise compromises versus the Honda Civic.
Is the Kia K4 replacing the Forte?
Yes. Kia positioned the K4 as the next-generation compact sedan and the Forte’s successor in the U.S. lineup. The change came as the compact-car segment was under pressure from SUVs and trucks. In March 2024, Associated Press reporting cited S&P Global Mobility analyst Stephanie Brinley’s estimate of about 1 million U.S. compact-car sales in the preceding year; the AP also reported that Kia sold more than 120,000 Fortes in 2023. Those are historical figures, not current sales totals.
Kia’s COO and executive vice president Steven Center described the new model as advancing the company’s commitment to sporty sedans, technology and performance. That is Kia’s positioning, not an independent assessment of how the car drives.
How much does a 2025 Kia K4 cost?
Kia America announced these U.S. launch MSRPs on August 13, 2024. The listed amounts exclude a $1,195 destination charge, and Kia said retailer prices could vary. They should not be treated as current offers or quotes.

What is the difference between the Kia K4 trims?
The key mechanical distinction is the GT-Line Turbo’s engine and transmission. LX, LXS, EX and GT-Line use the same naturally aspirated engine and IVT; GT-Line Turbo gets a turbocharged engine and conventional eight-speed automatic. The trim names alone do not establish that every optional feature is included, because equipment depends on trim and package.

These are Kia’s published U.S. 2025 model-year specifications and EPA fuel-economy ratings. The standard 1,999-cc engine is rated at 132 lb-ft of torque; the 1,598-cc turbo is rated at 195 lb-ft. How much room and technology does the K4 offer?
Kia promoted the K4’s rear legroom and headroom as class-leading within its compact-sedan comparison set. It also highlighted a cockpit with nearly 30 inches of combined digital displays and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard. Those are manufacturer claims and equipment descriptions; the display figure refers to the combined screens, not one single display.

Other features vary by trim and option package. Kia listed Digital Key 2.0 with Ultra Wideband, Harman Kardon audio, heated and ventilated front seats, a sunroof, blind-spot view and a surround-view camera among available or trim-limited equipment. Check the window sticker or build sheet for the specific car rather than assuming these features are standard across the range.
Kia said the K4 includes 11 standard advanced driver-assistance features. These are driver aids, not a substitute for attentive driving or a guarantee that a collision will be avoided. What does the driving comparison with the Honda Civic say?
The available comparison evidence is Edmunds’ Civic comparison, reported by the Associated Press—not an original test for this article. Edmunds praised the K4’s cabin room, technology and value, noting that its EX could cost less than a base Civic LX. It also found the standard engine underwhelming, the turbo’s power delivery uneven, and the ride and road noise less refined than the Civic’s. These are Edmunds’ comparative judgments, not a universal verdict for every driver or road.
The Civic hybrid’s reported maximum of up to 49 mpg combined belongs to the Civic hybrid, not the K4. The AP/Edmunds comparison said the hybrid costs more initially. Compare the specific Civic powertrain and trim with the K4 you are considering rather than treating either model’s best figure as representative of every version. Who should consider the 2025 Kia K4?
- Consider it if: you want a compact sedan with roomy rear seating, standard wireless phone integration, a broad trim range and a value-focused launch price.
- Compare carefully if: powertrain response, ride comfort and road noise matter as much as cabin space and equipment. Edmunds’ comparison favored the Civic’s refinement.
- Choose by use case: the LX has the highest published K4 combined rating at 34 mpg, while the GT-Line Turbo trades some fuel economy for more power and a different transmission. The EX and GT-Line sit between those choices in the published ratings.
There is no single winner across price, room, technology, fuel economy and driving refinement. The strongest case for the K4 is its combination of space and equipment at its launch positioning; whether it is the better buy now depends on the local quote and the Civic or other sedan actually available to you.
