Its smooth hybrid powertrain, quiet upscale cabin, standard three-row layout, and useful cargo space make it a more relaxed everyday vehicle than the gasoline Santa Fe. The compromises are slower acceleration, a third row that is best for children or shorter trips, a 2,000-pound towing limit, and real-world AWD fuel economy that can fall well below its EPA rating.
For most buyers, the Hybrid Limited with front-wheel drive is the sweet spot. Choose the SEL if price matters most, the Calligraphy if you want a near-luxury cabin, AWD if traction is a priority, and the gasoline Santa Fe if quick acceleration or towing matters more than fuel savings.

The 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid in one sentence
The 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is a carryover of the fifth-generation Santa Fe introduced for 2024, combining a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine, an electric motor, and a conventional six-speed automatic transmission in a boxy three-row crossover that is more practical and refined than its compact-SUV dimensions suggest.
Atlantis Blue is the principal listed change for 2025. The underlying vehicle, cabin design, powertrain, and basic packaging remain familiar from the redesigned 2024 model. In the U.S., the Hybrid is available in SEL, Limited, and Calligraphy trims. Front-wheel drive is standard, with HTRAC all-wheel drive available.

Hyundai positions the Santa Fe between the smaller Tucson and larger Palisade. That positioning is important: the Santa Fe is substantially more useful than a typical compact crossover, but it does not provide the adult-friendly third-row space of the larger Palisade.
What makes the Hybrid different?
| Specification | 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid | 2025 gasoline Santa Fe |
|---|---|---|
| Engine | Turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder plus electric motor | Turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder |
| Total output | 231 horsepower, 271 lb-ft of torque | 277 horsepower, 311 lb-ft of torque |
| Transmission | Six-speed automatic | Eight-speed dual-clutch automatic |
| Seating | Six or seven, depending on second-row configuration | Six or seven, depending on configuration |
| EPA combined fuel economy | 36 mpg FWD; 34 mpg AWD | Lower than the Hybrid |
| Maximum towing capacity | 2,000 pounds | Varies by configuration |
The Hybrid uses a 1.5-kWh lithium-ion battery. Its electric motor supplies low-speed assistance and helps the vehicle pull away more smoothly than the gasoline model. The motor is paired with a conventional six-speed automatic rather than a continuously variable transmission, so the driving experience feels more like a normal automatic-equipped SUV than some hybrids.
That transmission choice is one of the Hybrid’s strongest arguments. Edmunds described the six-speed as quick-shifting and natural, while Consumer Reports found the Hybrid smoother than the gasoline Santa Fe because electric torque helps eliminate some of the hesitation at low speeds. The Car Connection also found the transitions between engine and electric operation mostly seamless.

The Hybrid is tuned for quiet, comfortable family transportation rather than speed. Engine stop-start events are generally smooth, the brakes are easy to modulate, and the steering is accurate without feeling nervous. The ride is comfortable on commutes and road trips, and the cabin remains relatively quiet at highway speeds.
The tall, boxy body produces some body roll in corners, but independent testing indicates that the Santa Fe remains stable and predictable. This is not a sporty crossover, yet it is easy to place on the road and does not feel unwieldy in ordinary driving.
Acceleration is adequate, not impressive. Independent tests recorded 0-to-60-mph times between 7.6 and 8.3 seconds for AWD Hybrid models, depending on trim and test conditions. Car and Driver recorded 7.8 seconds, Edmunds recorded 8.3 seconds for a Calligraphy, and MotorTrend’s AWD Limited long-term vehicle managed 7.6 seconds. For comparison, Car and Driver recorded 6.3 seconds for the gasoline Santa Fe.
In Eco mode, the Hybrid can feel sluggish when leaving a stop or when asked to accelerate quickly at highway speeds. Sport mode sharpens throttle and shift response and is useful for merging or passing, although it does not transform the Santa Fe into a performance SUV. The powertrain’s more accurate description is relaxed and refined.

Fuel economy: excellent on paper, less predictable in AWD use
The EPA rates the front-wheel-drive 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid at 36 mpg city, 35 mpg highway, and 36 mpg combined. AWD models are rated at 35 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 34 mpg combined. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Alternative Fuels Data Center lists the same 36-mpg FWD and 34-mpg AWD combined figures.
Those ratings give the Hybrid a meaningful advantage over the gasoline Santa Fe, especially for urban and suburban drivers who benefit from the electric motor’s low-speed assistance. FWD is the clear choice if maximizing fuel economy and minimizing purchase cost are the priorities.
Real-world results are more mixed than the EPA numbers suggest. MotorTrend’s AWD Limited averaged 26.2 mpg during initial long-term use. Edmunds reported 27.3 mpg over approximately 20,000 miles, although its best single tank reached 33.1 mpg. The Drive recorded 32.1 mpg over 99 miles of mixed suburban driving and 31.3 mpg over 886 highway miles.
These figures are not contradictory so much as a reminder that hybrid mileage is highly sensitive to speed, temperature, terrain, load, traffic, and driving style. They should also not be treated as a formal reliability or economy survey. The AWD Santa Fe Hybrid can be efficient, but buyers should not assume that every tank will approach 34 mpg combined.

The fuel tank holds 17.7 gallons. Multiplying that capacity by the EPA rating produces a theoretical range of about 602 miles for the AWD model and roughly 637 miles for FWD. Those are calculation-based estimates, not guaranteed road-trip distances. Real drivers will usually refuel before using the entire tank, and poor weather, high speeds, hills, or a full vehicle can reduce the practical range.

Interior comfort and technology
The Santa Fe’s cabin is one of the reasons the Hybrid feels more substantial than a conventional compact crossover. The design is clean and upscale, the front and second rows are spacious, and the cabin is generally quiet. Edmunds found both rows supportive and well padded, while the Car Connection reported that the front seats remained comfortable during a six-hour drive.
A curved dashboard housing combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument display with a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard, giving even the entry-level Hybrid useful connectivity without requiring a cable for every phone connection.
Depending on trim, available or standard equipment can include a Bose audio system, head-up display, surround-view camera, dual wireless charging pads, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, a dual-pane sunroof, and additional driver-assistance technology. Exact availability can vary by trim, package, production date, and individual vehicle, so check the window sticker rather than relying on a generic equipment list.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe third row is useful, but not adult-sized
Every Santa Fe Hybrid has three rows, and that is a genuine advantage for families who occasionally need extra seats. However, the third row is the vehicle’s biggest practicality limitation.
With approximately 30 inches of third-row legroom, the rearmost seats are best for children, smaller adults, or shorter journeys. The seating position is raised because of hybrid-battery packaging, which can further limit the sense of space. Car and Driver, Edmunds, and the Car Connection all place the Santa Fe’s third row behind the Palisade’s in adult comfort.
That distinction should guide the buying decision. If older children or adults will regularly sit in row three, the larger Palisade is the better Hyundai. If the third row is mainly for occasional carpooling, children, or emergency use, the Santa Fe’s arrangement is reasonable.
Depending on the second-row configuration, the Santa Fe seats six or seven. A second-row bench maximizes seating capacity, while a configuration with captain’s chairs makes access to the third row easier and gives the cabin a more open feel.

Cargo space is a major strength
The Santa Fe’s upright rear body and wide liftgate opening make it easier to load bulky objects than many sleekly styled crossovers. Edmunds lists:
- 14.6 cubic feet behind the third row
- 40.5 cubic feet behind the second row
- Nearly 80 cubic feet behind the front row
The behind-the-third-row figure is enough for everyday items, but families traveling with all three rows occupied will need to pack carefully. Folding the third row creates a much more useful luggage area, and folding both rear rows gives the Santa Fe the kind of boxy, van-like carrying flexibility that is central to its appeal.
Owners who regularly carry groceries, muddy sports equipment, pets, or outdoor gear may want to consider 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid floor mats and a 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid cargo liner. Vehicle-specific fitment must be verified for the model year, trim, and second- or third-row configuration before ordering; not every accessory listing uses the same floor layout or cargo arrangement.
Hyundai’s accessory categories also include cargo liners, roof racks, bike carriers, and related equipment. Roof crossbars or a cargo box can help on road trips, but they are optional solutions to a particular carrying problem, not necessary equipment for ordinary ownership. Confirm the exact roof configuration, weight limits, and fitment before purchasing.
Towing is not a Hybrid strength
The Santa Fe Hybrid’s cited towing capacity is 2,000 pounds. That is adequate for a small utility trailer, lightweight personal watercraft, or similar load, but it is not a class-leading figure. Edmunds cites 3,500 pounds for the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, making the Toyota the stronger choice for buyers who tow regularly.
For occasional light towing, the Santa Fe Hybrid can still make sense. For frequent towing, larger trailers, or maximum passing performance while loaded, compare the gasoline Santa Fe and larger SUVs carefully and verify the rating for the precise drivetrain and equipment.

Which 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid trim should you buy?
SEL Hybrid: the value choice
The SEL is the logical entry point for buyers who want the Hybrid powertrain without paying for every luxury feature. It provides the core benefits—three rows, hybrid efficiency, wireless smartphone integration, and the redesigned body—at the lowest Hybrid price.
It is the trim to choose when the purchase decision is primarily about fuel economy and family utility. Before buying, compare the SEL’s equipment with the price of a well-equipped gasoline Santa Fe, since the Hybrid carries a meaningful premium.
Limited Hybrid: the best balance
The Limited is the strongest recommendation for most buyers who plan to keep the vehicle for several years. It adds the kind of comfort, camera, audio, and convenience equipment that makes a family SUV feel substantially more premium without moving all the way to Calligraphy pricing.
It is also the trim that best matches the Santa Fe Hybrid’s character: quiet, comfortable, well equipped, and easy to live with rather than overtly sporty. If the budget allows, a Limited with FWD is the most balanced configuration.
Calligraphy Hybrid: the indulgence pick
Calligraphy is the luxury-leaning choice, with the richest cabin and the most extensive feature set. It can make sense for buyers who want premium touches and are comfortable paying for them, but its price moves the Santa Fe closer to larger and more expensive competitors.
Calligraphy does not solve the Hybrid’s fundamental limitations. It is still slower than the gasoline Santa Fe and still has a compact third row. Buy it for equipment and presentation, not because it changes the vehicle’s basic capabilities.

Choose FWD for efficiency and value. It has the best EPA ratings, the lowest likely purchase price, and is the configuration most likely to deliver the Hybrid’s fuel-saving advantage in favorable conditions.
Choose AWD for traction and confidence. HTRAC AWD is worthwhile for buyers who regularly drive on snow, steep roads, gravel, or wet surfaces, or who simply prefer the additional traction. The tradeoff is a lower EPA rating and independent AWD results that sometimes fall into the high-20-mpg range.
AWD is not automatically the better family choice. If the vehicle will spend most of its life on dry paved roads and fuel cost matters, FWD is the more rational configuration.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Hybrid versus gasoline Santa Fe
The gasoline Santa Fe uses a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder producing 277 horsepower and 311 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic for 2025 and has a clear acceleration advantage. It is the better choice for drivers who frequently pass on two-lane roads, carry heavy loads, or prioritize quick response.
The Hybrid produces 46 fewer horsepower and 40 fewer lb-ft of torque, but its electric motor makes low-speed driving smoother. It also uses a six-speed automatic that independent reviewers generally found more natural in everyday use than the gasoline model’s dual-clutch transmission.
| Prioritize this | Choose |
|---|---|
| Fuel economy, smooth low-speed operation, and quiet commuting | Santa Fe Hybrid |
| Faster acceleration and stronger highway response | Gasoline Santa Fe |
| Lowest initial purchase price | Gasoline Santa Fe |
| Regular towing or heavy loading | Gasoline Santa Fe or a larger SUV, depending on the trailer |
| Adults regularly using the third row | Hyundai Palisade |
Launch-period pricing illustrates the Hybrid’s premium. MotorTrend described the FWD SEL Hybrid as approximately $4,000 more than the $35,795 gasoline Santa Fe SE. JD Power reported launch-period Hybrid pricing from $39,175 to $49,225 including destination, while MotorTrend’s AWD Limited long-term vehicle listed at $48,325 with equipment. Destination charges and transaction prices can change during the model year, so these figures are reference points rather than a current quote.

Safety, recalls, and warranty
Hyundai’s awards information identifies the 2025–2026 Santa Fe as an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ for vehicles built after November 2024. That build-date qualification matters: buyers should verify the vehicle’s production date and specific safety equipment rather than assume every 2025 Santa Fe has identical award eligibility.
Recall status also needs to be checked by VIN. Research available for this review identifies several model-year campaigns relevant to prospective buyers:
- NHTSA recall 25V808: Certain 2024–2025 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid vehicles may have rearview-camera wiring that prevents the rearview image from displaying. The report identifies 37,423 potentially involved 2024–2025 Santa Fe Hybrid vehicles built from March 6, 2024, through January 29, 2025.
- NHTSA recall 26V218: Certain 2024–2026 Santa Fe and Santa Fe Hybrid vehicles are covered by a seat-belt-anchor condition. The stated remedy may involve inspection, reinforcement, or replacement at no cost. The campaign includes a Do Not Drive instruction for affected vehicles, making prompt VIN verification especially important.
- NHTSA recall 25V659: This model-family recall concerns an improperly installed starter-motor positive-terminal cover and lists 135,386 potentially affected Santa Fe vehicles. The report does not separately identify the Hybrid, so it should not be described as applying to every Santa Fe Hybrid.
Before purchasing a new, used, or dealer-demo vehicle, enter its VIN into NHTSA’s recall lookup and ask the dealer to document that open campaigns have been completed. A model-year name alone is not enough to determine recall applicability.
For eligible U.S. retail vehicles, Hyundai advertises a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain limited warranty and a 10-year/100,000-mile Hybrid/Electric Limited Battery Warranty, subject to the warranty booklet’s terms and exclusions. Edmunds also reports a five-year/60,000-mile basic warranty and three years of complimentary scheduled maintenance.
Those terms are a meaningful ownership advantage, but warranty length is not proof of superior long-term reliability. Independent long-term vehicles and owner experiences can provide useful context, but they do not constitute a statistically representative reliability study.
Who should buy the 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid?
The Hybrid is a strong fit for a buyer who wants:
- A quieter, smoother family crossover than the gasoline Santa Fe
- Better EPA fuel economy without giving up three rows
- A roomy first and second row
- A large, easy-to-load cargo area
- Available AWD for snow or poor-weather traction
- A premium-feeling cabin and extensive standard technology
It is a weaker fit for a buyer who needs:
- Fast acceleration or effortless high-speed passing
- A genuinely adult-friendly third row
- More than 2,000 pounds of towing capacity
- The lowest possible purchase price
- Predictable EPA-level fuel economy in all AWD conditions
Final verdict
The 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is not the fastest Santa Fe, and its third row is not truly adult-sized. Its real-world AWD fuel economy can also disappoint compared with the EPA rating. Those limitations prevent it from being a universal winner.

The Hybrid Limited with FWD is the best overall configuration for most buyers; SEL is the value pick, and Calligraphy is the indulgence choice.
Buy the gasoline Santa Fe if acceleration, towing, or a lower upfront price outweigh efficiency. Choose the Palisade if adults will regularly occupy the third row. For everyone else—particularly efficiency-minded families—the 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid is the most complete version of Hyundai’s redesigned three-row crossover, provided the VIN has no unresolved recalls and AWD’s fuel-economy tradeoff is acceptable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does every 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid have three rows?
Yes. The 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid is a three-row crossover, with seating for six or seven depending on the second-row configuration. The third row is best for children, smaller adults, or shorter trips.
Is the 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid faster than the gasoline Santa Fe?
No. The Hybrid makes 231 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque, while the gasoline model makes 277 horsepower and 311 lb-ft. Independent tests put the Hybrid’s 0-to-60-mph time around 7.6 to 8.3 seconds, compared with 6.3 seconds for a tested gasoline Santa Fe.

Is FWD or AWD better for the Santa Fe Hybrid?
FWD is better for maximum fuel economy and value, with a 36-mpg EPA combined rating. AWD is the better choice for buyers who regularly drive in snow or want additional traction, but its EPA combined rating drops to 34 mpg and real-world results can be lower.
What recalls should I check on a 2025 Santa Fe Hybrid?
Check the VIN for open campaigns, including NHTSA recalls 25V808 for rearview-camera wiring and 26V218 for a seat-belt-anchor condition. Recall 25V659 involves certain Santa Fe vehicles and requires VIN verification because the report does not separately identify every Hybrid as affected.
The Bottom Line
Bottom line: The 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid is the best all-around Santa Fe for buyers who value smoothness, efficiency, quietness, and family utility. The Hybrid Limited with FWD is the strongest configuration, but buyers who need brisk acceleration, frequent towing, or a truly adult-sized third row should choose a different version or a larger SUV.
