Both pair a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine with front-wheel drive, a six-speed manual, a helical limited-slip differential and the same specified Michelin summer tires. The better fit depends on whether you value the lower original price and Honda-specific features or the Acura’s added amenities and distinct cabin.

How much more power does the Integra Type S have?

Are they basically the same car?
They are closely matched in key performance hardware, but they are not identical in equipment or presentation. Both are front-wheel-drive cars with six-speed manual transmissions, rev-match control and helical limited-slip differentials. Their published chassis specifications also include dual-axis front struts, multi-link rear suspension, adaptive dampers, 13.8-inch front and 12.0-inch rear brake rotors, and Brembo four-piston front calipers. Both manufacturers specify Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires in 265/30ZR19.
The differences become clearer in the cabin, included features and driving-mode labels. Honda lists Comfort, Sport, Individual and +R modes for the Type R; Acura lists Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual for the Type S. Those specifications describe equipment, not which car feels better on a particular road or to a particular driver.

Acura’s equipment list includes Ultrasuede-trimmed front seats, a 12-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support, heated front seats, a 5.3-inch head-up display and front and rear parking sensors. Its infotainment and instrumentation include a 9-inch touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital cluster, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 16-speaker ELS STUDIO 3D audio system.

Is the Type R more practical?
The listed cargo capacities are nearly the same: Honda gives the Type R 24.5 cu ft, while Acura’s Type S fact sheet gives 24.3 cu ft. That small official-specification difference is not enough by itself to establish a meaningful utility advantage, especially without a common independent measurement. Honda lists 99.0 cu ft of passenger volume; Acura lists 95.8 cu ft EPA passenger volume, so the figures use source-specific labels and should not be treated as directly interchangeable.
Which gets better fuel economy?
The EPA estimates 22/28/24 mpg city/highway/combined for the Civic Type R and 21/28/24 mpg for the Integra Type S. The Civic’s published estimate is one mpg higher in the city and combined, while the highway ratings are tied. Actual mileage varies with driving, maintenance and conditions. The figures appear in the manufacturers’ respective Honda pricing and EPA release and Acura pricing and EPA release.

What should buyers know about the factory tires?
Both cars are specified with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S maximum-performance summer tires, size 265/30ZR19. Summer tires are not all-season tires and may be unsuitable for cold or snowy conditions. If you drive in those conditions, confirm suitable seasonal alternatives, correct vehicle fitment, load and speed ratings, and current availability before buying replacements. Consult the Honda Type R specifications and Acura Type S fact sheet for the listed tire details.
