GMC lists AWD, all-terrain tires, extra ride height, an off-road-tuned suspension, Terrain mode, hill descent control and skid-plate protection. Those features make the AT4 better equipped for rough roads; they do not establish serious rock-crawling ability or prove how it performs on a trail.
What the 2025 Acadia AT4 is built to do
The AT4’s defining difference is equipment, not a separate powertrain. GMC’s 2025 configurator lists it as AWD-only, while GMC’s Acadia brochure describes Active Torque Control AWD, Terrain mode, hill descent control, a lifted ride height, off-road-tuned suspension, a steel skid plate, recovery hooks and 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tires. The brochure covers the generation and is for the 2024 model year, so verify a particular 2025 vehicle’s equipment against its window sticker.
That package is useful for unpaved roads, snow-covered routes and other lower-traction conditions. The available specifications do not quantify ground clearance, approach or departure angles, water-fording limits, or independent trail-test results. It is more accurate to call the AT4 a trail-oriented family SUV than a dedicated rock crawler. GMC’s Acadia brochure documents the equipment, not a tested level of off-road capability.
Engine, transmission and road manners
Every 2025 Acadia configuration listed by GMC uses a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder rated at 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic. The engine is not unique to AT4; the trim’s distinction is its AWD and trail-focused hardware. These are manufacturer specifications, not independent performance-test results. GMC’s 2025 configuration page lists the AT4 drivetrain and output.

Car and Driver says the Acadia corners sure-footedly for its size, but reports that the turbo four can sound noisy and feel less responsive than expected. That is the publication’s assessment, not a firsthand drive impression from this review. Its listed 0–60 mph time is an estimate: the publication says it had not track-tested the vehicle, so the figure should not be treated as a measured acceleration result. Car and Driver’s 2025 Acadia review also gives published fuel-economy ratings of 19–20 mpg city and 24–27 mpg highway, depending on configuration; it had not collected real-world fuel-economy data.
AT4, Elevation and Denali: choose by purpose

This is a difference in intended use and equipment, not evidence that one trim is categorically better. Seating layout also matters: Car and Driver reports seating for eight with a second-row bench or seven with captain’s chairs. For an exact 2025 standard-versus-optional equipment comparison, check the vehicle’s window sticker or GMC’s configuration page; the GMC overview page has since redirected to a later model year, so avoid relying on it for precise 2025 details. GMC’s 2025 configuration page and the generation brochure are the relevant equipment references.

Passenger space, cargo and towing
Car and Driver reports 23 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row. GMC lists maximum cargo volume of 97.5 cubic feet with seats folded; those figures describe different seating configurations, not space available at the same time. Confirm the bench or captain’s-chair layout if passenger capacity is important. Car and Driver provides the behind-third-row figure, while GMC’s 2025 Acadia page lists maximum cargo volume.
GMC publishes a maximum towing capacity of up to 5,000 pounds when equipped with the Trailering Package. That is a maximum, not a blanket rating for every Acadia or every load. The vehicle’s configuration, payload, passengers, cargo and trailer limits govern what it can safely tow; check the owner’s manual and the specific vehicle’s ratings before hitching up. GMC’s 2025 Acadia page and GMC’s Acadia brochure state the maximum.

What to check before buying an AT4
- Confirm the model year and equipment. Match the window sticker to the vehicle; generation-level brochure information does not guarantee that every listed feature appears on every 2025 example.
- Check seating needs. A second-row bench accommodates eight according to Car and Driver; captain’s chairs reduce capacity to seven.
- Match your towing plan to the vehicle. Confirm the Trailering Package and vehicle-specific limits rather than relying on the published maximum alone.
- Inspect tire fitment before replacement. The brochure documents 18-inch all-terrain tires for the AT4, but does not establish an exact replacement-tire fitment for every vehicle. Use the door-jamb tire placard and confirm the precise size and specification before purchasing.
- Evaluate comfort on your own route. The published review notes engine noise and less-than-expected response; a test drive can help determine whether that matters in your normal driving.
Driver-assistance features
GMC lists multiple driver-assistance features for the Acadia and cautions that these systems do not replace attentive driving. Their presence should be checked on the specific vehicle, and drivers remain responsible for operating it safely. GMC’s brochure includes the manufacturer’s safety caution.
