The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD completed the Nürburgring Nordschleife in 6:57.685, according to Ford’s announcement on 10 December 2024. Multimatic Motorsports driver Dirk Müller was at the wheel. Ford called it the first car from an American brand to lap the circuit in under seven minutes—but that 2024 time is no longer the latest Mustang GTD-family benchmark.
How fast did the 2025 Mustang GTD lap the Nürburgring?
Ford reported a lap of 6:57.685 on the Nordschleife, the Nürburgring’s long circuit. The company said the lap covered 20.8 km and 73 turns; Müller drove the car. Ford’s 10 December 2024 announcement described the result as the first sub-seven-minute lap by a car from an American brand.
That wording matters: it is Ford’s claim about the brand associated with the car, not proof that the GTD was built in the United States. Ford’s release identifies the driver and time, but the result should be understood as the company’s reported lap rather than an independent instrumented test.
What does the Nürburgring’s timing procedure establish?
The circuit’s records page gives the Nordschleife length as 20.832 km and says record laps use a flying start. The Nürburgring states that official timing is measured with calibrated technology, attempts are supervised by a notary, and the standard vehicle condition is documented by a neutral testing organization. It says, “As of the 2019 season, lap records are officially recorded, confirmed and published by the Nürburgring.” The circuit’s records and methodology page lists the GTD’s 6:57.685 result.
#1 Best Overall
- Detailed Die-cast metal body with plastic parts
- Large Apx 9-1/2" replica
- Opening doors and engine compartment
- Full functioning steering
- Four-wheel suspension
Ford’s release rounds the course distance to 20.8 km. The Nürburgring’s more precise figure is 20.832 km; the two figures are different levels of precision, not competing course lengths. The published procedure provides context for how official records are handled, but does not establish the specific preparation or any safety exception for this Mustang lap.
What made the GTD capable of the lap?
Ford’s 16 September 2024 specifications describe the GTD as producing 815 U.S.-certified horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque from a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, with a stated top speed of 202 mph. Ford also lists active aerodynamics, carbon-ceramic brakes, and an inboard rear suspension with semi-active dampers. These are manufacturer-published specifications and features, not independent measurements or proof that any one component alone produced the lap time. See Ford’s 2025 Mustang GTD specification release.

Is 6:57.685 still the fastest Mustang GTD Nürburgring time?
No. Ford Racing reported two later GTD-family results on 16 April 2026. The entries differ by version and Nürburgring category, so they should not be treated as laps by the same car or as directly interchangeable records.
| Date reported | Model/version and category | Lap time | What the label means |
|---|---|---|---|
| 10 December 2024 | 2025 Mustang GTD; Ford’s original announcement of the result | 6:57.685 | Ford’s reported sub-seven-minute lap; the release frames it as the first car from an American brand to achieve that. |
| 16 April 2026 | Mustang GTD; production-class benchmark reported by Ford Racing | 6:52.072 | Ford Racing identified this as the prior Mustang GTD production-class benchmark. |
| 16 April 2026 | Mustang GTD Competition; Nürburgring Pre-Production / Prototype Class | 6:40.835 | Ford Racing’s reported Competition result on the prototype-class leaderboard. |
The later times and their class labels come from Ford Racing’s 16 April 2026 report. The Nürburgring says its categories follow definitions set by Germany’s Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). The 6:40.835 Competition time is therefore not a replacement production-class time for the original 2025 GTD entry; the 6:52.072 production-class figure is the relevant later benchmark identified in Ford Racing’s report.

- Original result: Ford reported 6:57.685, driven by Dirk Müller, in December 2024.
- Historic claim: Ford characterized it as the first sub-seven-minute lap by a car from an American brand.
- Current context: Ford Racing later reported a quicker production-class GTD benchmark and a quicker GTD Competition prototype-class lap in April 2026.
- Evidence boundary: The performance specifications and results above are attributed to Ford or Ford Racing; the Nürburgring supplies the timing-method and category context.
