How the race unfolded
Rain and incidents set the tone
The season opener began in mixed conditions and developed into a wet-weather race. The changing grip made each phase precarious, while incidents brought out Safety Cars and interrupted the running. Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso both retired after crashes.
Norris held off Verstappen
Norris converted pole position into the win, but Verstappen remained close enough to challenge late. The McLaren driver crossed the line just 0.895 seconds ahead of the Red Bull. Russell completed the podium, 8.481 seconds behind Norris.

| 4 | Andrea Kimi Antonelli | Mercedes | Classified fourth |
| 9 | Oscar Piastri | McLaren | 20.448 seconds behind |
Antonelli’s fourth place reflects a post-race stewarding decision: Formula 1 reported that his unsafe-release penalty was reversed. It was a change to the final classification, not an on-track pass.

- Several incidents reshaped the running: crashes and Safety Cars affected the flow, with Sainz and Alonso retiring.
- The finish stayed close: Verstappen pressed Norris, who won by less than a second.
- The home favorite’s day turned: Piastri’s late off-track moment cost him a chance to remain in the podium battle, though he rejoined and finished ninth.
