Ford rates the 2025 Mustang GTD at 815 hp and 664 lb-ft from a supercharged 5.2-liter V8, and quotes a 202-mph top speed. Ford calls it the most powerful production Mustang in history and the most powerful street-legal Mustang ever—a Mustang-specific claim, not a ranking of all road-legal cars.
How much power does the 2025 Mustang GTD make?
Ford’s September 16, 2024 announcement lists 815 hp and 664 lb-ft of torque for the GTD’s supercharged 5.2-liter V8, and describes the output as SAE-certified. The 2025 owner’s manual gives the engine’s more precise figures: 5,163 cc displacement, 815 hp at 7,400 rpm, 664 lb-ft at 4,500 rpm, and a 7,650-rpm redline. It specifies an intercooled supercharger and an active-valve exhaust.
Ford describes the GTD as its most powerful production Mustang and most powerful street-legal Mustang. That wording sets the scope: it is a claim about the Mustang lineage, not a claim that the GTD is the world’s most powerful street-legal car. Ford engineer Greg Goodall said, “GTD’s heart is its supercharged 5.2-liter V8, packing more horsepower per liter than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.” That is Goodall’s manufacturer statement, not an independent, like-for-like comparison.
How fast is the Mustang GTD?
Ford quotes a 202-mph (325-km/h) top speed for the GTD and calls it the highest top speed of any production Mustang. The figure appears in Ford’s September 2024 announcement and on its current GTD product page.

Ford’s Nürburgring result
Ford’s current GTD product page, which carries 2026 branding, reports a Nürburgring lap time of 6 minutes 40.835 seconds and calls the GTD the first American production car to break seven minutes. This is a later reported result, distinct from Ford’s September 2024 announcement, which described a sub-seven-minute lap as a goal. The current page’s date and status matter when applying that result to a story about the 2025 model.
What engineering supports the GTD’s performance?
The GTD combines its high-output V8 with systems and layout choices aimed at track performance. Ford’s 2024 announcement describes a dry-sump lubrication system—its first on a Mustang—which is intended to maintain engine lubrication during sustained, demanding cornering. It also identifies carbon-ceramic brakes, active aerodynamics, and inboard rear suspension with semi-active dampers.

Ford’s current product page adds detail on the layout: an eight-speed dual-clutch transaxle mounted at the rear, connected by a carbon-fiber driveshaft, and near-50/50 weight distribution. It lists semi-active suspension and Brembo six-piston carbon-ceramic brakes.
Drag Reduction System and active aero
Ford says the GTD’s Drag Reduction System changes the angle of the rear wing and opens flaps beneath the front of the car. The system is designed to balance lower drag for speed with downforce for grip; the two aims are related but not identical, so the setup adapts airflow rather than simply maximizing one at all times.

How many 2025 Mustang GTDs will Ford build, and what do they cost?
Ford’s current GTD page describes production as “very limited,” but it does not give an exact production quantity. Its price FAQ also does not state a price, instead directing readers to Ford updates. Ford’s 2023 launch announcement projected an expected starting MSRP of approximately $300,000; that early projection is not confirmation of a final 2025 MSRP, transaction price, dealer markup, allocation, or delivery schedule.
Ford Mustang GTD Brand Manager Jim Owens called the car “the pinnacle of Mustang performance” in Ford’s January 9, 2025 Spirit of America announcement. That is brand positioning rather than a technical comparison with other performance cars.
