It remains a five-seat compact SUV, not a smaller version of the full-size Bronco—but every U.S. trim has 4×4, and the equipment ladder now makes the difference between everyday-ready and trail-focused models especially clear.
What’s new on the 2025 Ford Bronco Sport?
Ford revised the front and rear fascias, grille and wheel designs for 2025, and offers deployable fender tie-downs. The cabin changes are more consequential for daily use: a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch center touchscreen replace the smaller displays. Ford also lists SYNC 4, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, SiriusXM with 360L and Co-Pilot360 Assist+ as standard equipment. A device tray is available.
New package options include Black Diamond and Sasquatch. Ford said the Black Appearance Package would not be available immediately when it published its model-year overview, so availability should be confirmed for the specific vehicle and build.
Which 2025 Bronco Sport has the 2.0-liter engine?
The U.S. lineup has two turbocharged engines, both paired with an eight-speed automatic. Big Bend, Heritage and Outer Banks use the 1.5-liter three-cylinder; Badlands gets the 2.0-liter four-cylinder. Ford’s output ratings are based on premium fuel under SAE J1349, while 87-octane is the minimum recommended fuel.

| Engine and configuration | Ford-rated output | Ford-estimated city/highway/combined economy |
|---|---|---|
| 1.5L EcoBoost, standard configuration | 180 hp; 200 lb-ft | 25/30/27 mpg |
| 1.5L EcoBoost, specified Sasquatch configuration | 180 hp; 200 lb-ft | 23/26/24 mpg |
| 2.0L EcoBoost | 250 hp; 280 lb-ft | 21/27/23 mpg |
These are Ford estimates, not real-world results; the two 1.5-liter economy figures apply to different configurations. The Badlands transmission also offers manual shifting and paddle shifters.
How do the trims differ?
All listed U.S. trims have 4×4, but engine, terrain modes and off-road hardware are not the same. Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery and Off-Road are the five general modes; Badlands adds Rock Crawl and Rally.
| Trim or configuration | Engine and drivetrain distinction | Off-road equipment and role |
|---|---|---|
| Big Bend | 1.5L; HOSS 1.0; five terrain modes | Entry trim with standard 4×4. The optional Black Diamond Off-Road package adds steel underbody protection and four recovery points. |
| Heritage | 1.5L; HOSS 1.0 | Heritage styling and all-terrain tires, with standard 4×4 and Off-Road mode. |
| Outer Banks | 1.5L; HOSS 1.0 | Offers an optional Sasquatch route to more substantial off-road hardware without moving to Badlands. |
| Badlands | 2.0L; advanced 4×4 with twin-clutch rear drive; HOSS 2.0; seven terrain modes | The higher-capability core trim, with Rock Crawl and Rally modes; Sasquatch adds further suspension and protection equipment. |
| Badlands Sasquatch | 2.0L; Sasquatch equipment | Adds Bilstein rear shocks, increased suspension travel and protective hardware to the Badlands foundation. |
Ford’s technical sheet also includes Free Wheeling among standard trim levels, while its public 2025 model page presents Big Bend, Heritage, Outer Banks and Badlands. Free Wheeling is therefore not included in the four-trim public-page comparison above.

What does the Bronco Sport Sasquatch package add?
Sasquatch is functional equipment, not just a styling treatment. Ford offers it on Outer Banks with the 1.5L and Badlands with the 2.0L. The package includes a twin-clutch rear-drive unit, locking rear differential and 29-inch Goodyear Territory All Terrain tires in 235/65R17 size.

It also lists a brush guard, steel skid plates, accessory-ready bumpers and recovery points. These are Ford’s equipment descriptions, not independent test results.
That makes Badlands Sasquatch the clearest version of the “hits the gym” idea: it combines the larger engine and advanced rear-drive hardware with added tire, suspension and underbody equipment. Outer Banks Sasquatch brings some of the same package concept to the 1.5L trim, but it is not the same configuration as Badlands Sasquatch.

What can the Bronco Sport do off road?
Terrain modes help tailor the vehicle’s responses to different surfaces, but the equipment attached to each trim matters just as much. Badlands has the broader seven-mode set and advanced 4×4; the Sasquatch package adds a locking rear differential and more trail-oriented tires. For a less extensive upgrade, Big Bend’s optional Black Diamond package adds steel underbody protection and four recovery points. It is a different package and proposition from Sasquatch.
Ford describes Trail One-Pedal Drive as allowing the driver to manage speed with the accelerator: easing off engages braking, and fully releasing the pedal brings the vehicle to a controlled stop. An available 360-degree camera can provide Trail View; Badlands and Badlands Sasquatch can also be equipped with Split View.
How much can a 2025 Bronco Sport tow?
With the available Class II Trailer Tow package, Ford lists a maximum of 2,200 pounds for Big Bend and Outer Banks, and 2,700 pounds for Badlands. Those are package-conditional maximums, not a claim that every Bronco Sport can tow the same amount. Confirm equipment and ratings for the exact vehicle before towing.

How big is it, and how many people does it seat?
The Bronco Sport seats five. Ford lists these U.S. exterior dimensions:
| Engine | Height | Width | Length |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.5L | 70.4 in | 82.2 in | 173.1 in |
| 2.0L | 71.5 in | 82.2 in | 173.4 in |
How much more capable is the refresh?
The changes are real but concentrated in specific places. The larger displays, wireless connectivity and standard driver-assistance equipment update the whole lineup. The more substantial trail hardware is conditional: Badlands is the 2.0L, seven-mode starting point, while Sasquatch adds a locking rear differential, all-terrain tires and, on Badlands, upgraded suspension and protection. Buyers choosing Big Bend, Heritage or Outer Banks still get standard 4×4, but should not assume those trims share Badlands’ engine or equipment.
Ford’s August 26, 2024 announcement quoted Bronco Sport customers as going off-roading 3.5 times as often and camping twice as often as owners of competitive vehicles. The cited passage does not identify a study or methodology, so those figures are Ford’s reported comparison, not independently verified measurements. Likewise, Ford’s descriptions of rugged engineering are manufacturer positioning rather than comparative test findings.
