Verdict: The 2025 Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray is the most broadly capable road-going C8 Corvette. Its 6.2-liter V8, front-axle electric motor, all-wheel drive, widebody hardware, and standard carbon-ceramic brakes deliver extraordinary launch performance while adding useful wet-weather confidence and touring ability.
It is not an economical hybrid, a long-range electric car, or the lightest and most communicative Corvette. The Stingray remains the better value, and the Z06 remains the more focused track instrument. The E-Ray earns its premium by combining much of the Corvette’s everyday usability with repeatable supercar acceleration and a wider operating envelope.

The 2025 Corvette E-Ray in brief
| Item | 2025 Corvette E-Ray |
|---|---|
| Engine | 6.2-liter naturally aspirated LT2 V8 |
| Rear-wheel power | 495 horsepower through an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic |
| Front electric motor | 160 horsepower and 125 lb-ft of motor torque |
| Combined output | 655 horsepower |
| Drivetrain | Electrified all-wheel drive, or eAWD |
| Battery | Approximately 1.1-kWh performance-oriented pack |
| Chevrolet-claimed acceleration | 0–60 mph in 2.5 seconds; quarter mile in 10.5 seconds |
| Electric-only operation | Stealth Mode at speeds up to 45 mph for short, low-speed use |
| EPA fuel-economy estimates | 19 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, as reported by Car and Driver |
| 2025 coupe starting price | $106,900 for 1LZ, before options and applicable charges |
The important distinction is that the E-Ray is a gas/electric performance hybrid, not an electric Corvette. Chevrolet pairs the Stingray’s LT2 V8 and rear-mounted eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with a 160-hp electric motor on the front axle. There is no conventional mechanical driveshaft connecting the engine to the front wheels. The result is electric-assisted all-wheel drive that can add front-axle traction when the car launches, accelerates, or encounters a slippery surface.

What the hybrid system actually changes
The E-Ray’s small battery is designed around performance rather than electric range. It supplies the front motor, accepts energy through regeneration, and helps the car respond immediately before the rear tires and V8 are fully loaded. The system also permits Chevrolet’s Stealth Mode, which can move the car electrically at up to 45 mph.

Stealth Mode is best understood as a quiet-start and low-speed maneuvering feature. It is useful for leaving home early, moving through a parking area, or covering a short stretch without the V8 running. It should not be confused with a useful long-range EV mode. The E-Ray is not plug-in capable, and its battery is far too small for the kind of electric commuting associated with a dedicated EV or plug-in hybrid.
That calibration explains the car’s character. The electric motor does not replace the V8’s sound, throttle response, or high-speed personality. Instead, it supplies an extra shove at the front axle and helps the rear tires find traction. The experience remains recognizably Corvette: a naturally aspirated V8 behind the occupants, a quick dual-clutch transmission, and dramatic acceleration. The electric hardware makes that familiar formula more immediate and repeatable.
Acceleration: the E-Ray’s clearest advantage
Chevrolet claims a 2.5-second 0–60-mph time and a 10.5-second quarter mile. Car and Driver independently recorded 2.5 seconds to 60 mph and described the E-Ray as the quickest Corvette it had tested at that time. Cars.com also characterizes its launch performance as quicker than both the standard Stingray and the Z06.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThose figures should remain properly qualified. Chevrolet’s numbers are claims, while Car and Driver’s result is an independently measured test. Magazine-test numbers also depend on surface, tires, temperature, launch technique, battery state, and test equipment. They are useful for comparing cars, but they do not mean every driver will reproduce 2.5 seconds on a public road.
The front motor’s benefit is most obvious in the first few feet. Instead of asking the rear tires to manage the full launch by themselves, the E-Ray can apply electric drive at the front while the V8 and rear axle deliver their own output. That gives the car a forceful, controlled initial response and helps make repeated launches less dependent on perfect rear-tire conditions.
The sensation is not the isolated, silent shove of a high-output EV. The electric motor fills the initial gap, then the LT2’s displacement, induction, and exhaust character take over. For road drivers, the outcome is devastatingly quick acceleration that remains mechanically dramatic rather than clinically electric.
Handling and steering: secure rather than delicate
The E-Ray uses the C8’s widebody architecture and shares broad wheel-and-tire dimensions with the more aggressive Z06 and ZR1 family, according to Cars.com. Standard carbon-ceramic brakes and Magnetic Selective Ride Control give it hardware suited to serious performance driving, while Chevrolet provides three magnetic-ride settings.
Published testing presents a useful tension. Car and Driver reported heroic cornering grip and said the added motor and battery mass was not especially apparent on twisty roads. Cars.com found the E-Ray highly capable and planted but noted that its greater mass becomes more noticeable when changing direction than it does in other Corvette variants.

Both observations can be true. The E-Ray is not a clumsy hybrid. Its traction, tire footprint, suspension calibration, and low mid-engine layout allow it to carry impressive speed and remain composed. But the electrified hardware adds mass, and mass eventually influences transitions, braking, and the delicacy of the car’s responses. The best road-use description is secure, confidence-inspiring, and brutally effective—not light, fragile, or intimate.
The all-wheel-drive system also changes the emotional balance of the C8. A Stingray lets the driver experience more of the rear-drive relationship between throttle, rear tires, and corner exit. The E-Ray can make a fast exit easier by distributing the work across both axles. That is an advantage in traction and consistency, but some drivers will prefer the more exposed, communicative character of the rear-drive car. This is a drivetrain trade-off, not a flaw in the E-Ray’s engineering.
Ride quality and four-season ability
Chevrolet positions the E-Ray as an all-season performance car, and that is one of its strongest real-world arguments. Standard high-performance all-season tires support the broader road-use mission, while Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires are available for buyers who prioritize dry grip and sharper responses.

One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchCars.com tested an E-Ray in heavy rain and reported that all-wheel drive and Weather mode helped the car proceed with little drama. That is meaningful for a low-slung, 655-hp sports car. The front motor can provide useful traction assistance when the road is wet and the rear axle is more likely to overwhelm its tires.
There is an important qualification: all-wheel drive does not make the E-Ray a snow vehicle. Tire compound, tread depth, temperature, road conditions, and speed remain decisive. Summer tires can be particularly inappropriate in cold or wet conditions, and Cars.com raised hydroplaning concerns with the low-tread-rating summer tires fitted to its test vehicle. Owners should verify the exact tire specification on any car they buy and should not assume that the AWD system compensates for an unsuitable tire.
For buyers who expect to drive the Corvette through changing seasons, the standard all-season setup is the more coherent choice. For warm-climate owners or drivers who spend their time on dry roads and occasional track sessions, the optional summer tires may better suit the car’s available grip. Neither choice makes the E-Ray immune to weather or road hazards.
Is the E-Ray good for road trips?
More than its exotic shape suggests. The E-Ray remains a two-seat mid-engine coupe or convertible, but the C8’s two-compartment storage layout gives it useful luggage capacity. Cars.com completed a roughly six-hour road-trip route and found the planning and preparation relatively painless, citing the frunk and rear trunk. Its measured combined cargo capacity was 12.5 cubic feet; Car and Driver lists 13 cubic feet. The small difference is most likely measurement methodology or rounding, not a meaningful practical distinction.

The convertible adds open-air appeal through a retractable hardtop. The coupe uses a removable roof panel. Buyers should choose based on the desired touring experience rather than expecting either body style to transform the car into a conventional grand tourer; both remain compact, low, two-seat performance cars.
Cabin, controls, and daily usability
The E-Ray’s interior is broadly similar to other C8 Corvettes. It includes a configurable 12.0-inch instrument display, a driver-oriented infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and performance readouts that show engine and electric-motor activity.
Materials and technology give the cabin a more substantial feel than the Corvette’s price-to-performance formula might suggest, but the layout is deliberately driver-centered. The tall bank of HVAC controls divides the occupants and gives the center console a distinctive, almost cockpit-like appearance. Some drivers will appreciate the physical controls and clear separation; others will find the arrangement less open and intuitive than a conventional sports-car interior.
The E-Ray works best as a daily performance car when its owner values focus over cabin expansiveness. Visibility, ingress and egress, ride height, and storage still require sports-car compromises. The two trunks, however, make weekend travel realistic, and the available 2LZ equipment addresses several of the features that matter most in regular use.
Fuel economy: hybrid does not mean economical
The E-Ray’s hybrid system is there to make the Corvette faster and more capable, not cheaper to fuel. Car and Driver reports EPA estimates of 19 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, and achieved 23 mpg in its 75-mph highway test.
Those figures are respectable for a 655-hp performance car, but they are not ordinary-hybrid numbers. Buyers should budget for V8 fuel consumption, premium performance tires, and expensive performance-car maintenance. The E-Ray’s name describes its electrified drivetrain; it does not promise efficient commuting.
2025 pricing and which trim makes sense

The 2LZ is the most persuasive daily-driver upgrade. It adds equipment such as Bose audio, heated and ventilated seats, blind-zone and rear-cross-traffic alerts, a head-up display, and additional camera and convenience features. For an owner who will commute, tour, park in crowded areas, or keep the car for years, those features can matter more than a cosmetic trim upgrade.
The 3LZ is primarily an interior-material and trim step. It may be appealing to buyers who want a more upscale cabin, but it does not change the E-Ray’s core performance formula. The same decision applies to the convertible premium: pay for the open-air experience, not for a mechanical performance advantage.
For new-car shoppers, Chevrolet’s official resources allow buyers to build a 2025 Corvette E-Ray, check Corvette E-Ray inventory, or contact Corvette Concierge. Availability, dealer pricing, options, and displayed-vehicle equipment should be confirmed directly rather than inferred from a base-price listing.

E-Ray versus Stingray
| Choose the E-Ray if you value… | Choose the Stingray if you value… |
|---|---|
| All-wheel traction and repeatable launches | Lower entry cost |
| Widebody proportions and associated hardware | Less drivetrain complexity |
| More confidence in wet conditions | A purer rear-drive experience |
| Maximum straight-line performance | Leaving more budget for options, tires, or ownership costs |
The Stingray is the rational C8 for many buyers. Its rear-drive layout is already fast enough to overwhelm public roads, and its lower price can make room for comfort equipment or the ownership expenses that accompany any Corvette. It also exposes more of the traditional sports-car relationship between throttle and rear-tire grip.
The E-Ray justifies its premium when the buyer genuinely needs or wants its wider operating envelope. Wet-weather confidence, all-season usability, stronger launch traction, and the visual distinction of the widebody bodywork are real benefits. But the E-Ray is not automatically the better enthusiast choice. It is the more versatile performance choice.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.E-Ray versus Z06
The Z06 follows a different brief. Its 5.5-liter flat-plane-crank V8 emphasizes high-rpm character and circuit performance, while the E-Ray uses the larger-displacement LT2 V8, electric front drive, and a more road-tourer-oriented calibration.
In Car and Driver testing, the E-Ray reached 60 mph in 2.5 seconds compared with 2.6 seconds for the Z06. That makes the E-Ray quicker in that particular acceleration test, but it does not establish track superiority. Straight-line acceleration and sustained circuit performance ask different things of a car.
| Buyer priority | Better fit | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Road trips, rain, and effortless launches | E-Ray | eAWD, electric front-axle assistance, and broader road-use capability |
| Engine drama and high-rpm involvement | Z06 | Flat-plane-crank V8 and a more focused performance mission |
| Maximum track communication and lower mass | Z06 | Less emphasis on hybrid-assisted all-weather versatility |
| Fastest-feeling public-road acceleration | E-Ray | Immediate front-motor assistance and exceptional launch traction |
A buyer who spends most of the time on public roads, encounters changing weather, or prefers low-end thrust should lean toward the E-Ray. A driver who values engine character, circuit work, and maximum communication should consider the Z06. Neither is universally better; they are optimized for different kinds of speed.

Ownership checks for a new or used E-Ray
The E-Ray combines expensive performance hardware with a hybrid drivetrain, so a careful inspection matters. The following checks are especially useful when evaluating a used example:
- Run the VIN through NHTSA’s recall lookup. A VIN search identifies unrepaired recalls for that particular vehicle. Recall repairs are performed without charge through the manufacturer’s dealership network. Model-year summaries are not a substitute for a vehicle-specific VIN check.
- Ask a Chevrolet dealer to confirm campaign and software status. Service information, software updates, and technical bulletins are separate evidence categories from safety recalls. A bulletin should not be described as a recall.
- Inspect the carbon-ceramic brakes. They are standard E-Ray equipment and can be costly components to replace. Have a qualified technician assess the rotors, pads, warning messages, and braking behavior rather than relying only on visual appearance.
- Identify the tire type and condition. Confirm whether the car has standard high-performance all-season tires or optional summer Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. Check tread depth, age, wear pattern, damage, and correct pressure. If you need Corvette E-Ray replacement tires, verify the exact model year, body style, wheel package, tire specification, load rating, and speed rating before ordering.
- Test the front lift if equipped. Confirm that it raises and lowers correctly and that there are no warning messages, leaks, or unusual noises. Research available during this review identified service information involving certain 2024–2025 Corvette E-Ray vehicles with front-lift-system messages or shock-fluid conditions. That information should prompt a VIN and dealer-status check, not a claim that every affected car has a safety recall.
- Check both luggage compartments. Inspect the frunk and rear trunk for water intrusion, damage, and evidence of poor loading practices. The E-Ray is practical for a sports car, but its storage areas still need to be treated as part of the vehicle inspection.
On a new car, confirm the actual window sticker, options, tire specification, and dealer-installed accessories. On a used car, obtain service records and have an independent Corvette-qualified shop inspect the car before purchase. The E-Ray’s performance is a reason to buy it; it is also a reason not to skip a mechanical inspection.
Who should buy the 2025 Corvette E-Ray?
- Buy it if you want a spectacularly quick Corvette that remains usable for road trips and changing weather.
- Buy it if consistent launches and all-wheel traction matter more to you than rear-drive purity.
- Buy it if you want widebody Corvette hardware without choosing a car solely for track use.
- Choose a Stingray instead if price, simplicity, and a more traditional rear-drive feel are the priorities.
- Choose a Z06 instead if high-rpm engine character, circuit driving, and maximum track communication outweigh all-season versatility.
- Do not buy it expecting EV range, hybrid-car fuel economy, or snow-car behavior merely because it has an electric motor and all-wheel drive.
Drivers new to a 655-hp car should also consider professional performance-driving instruction or a supervised performance-driving experience. A closed course and qualified instructor are better places to explore the E-Ray’s braking, launch, and cornering capability than a public road.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the 2025 Corvette E-Ray drive only on electricity?
Only briefly and at low speed. Chevrolet’s Stealth Mode permits electric driving at up to 45 mph, but the E-Ray’s approximately 1.1-kWh battery is designed for quiet maneuvering, traction assistance, and performance—not meaningful EV range. It is not a plug-in hybrid.
Is the Corvette E-Ray faster than the Z06?
In Car and Driver’s cited acceleration tests, the E-Ray reached 60 mph in 2.5 seconds versus 2.6 seconds for the Z06. That does not mean it is universally faster on a race track. The Z06 has a more track-focused powertrain and mission, while the E-Ray emphasizes road performance, traction, and all-weather usability.
Is the E-Ray good in snow?
It has more traction flexibility than a rear-drive Corvette, but it is not a snow vehicle by default. Tires, temperature, tread depth, road conditions, and driving speed remain decisive. Summer tires are particularly unsuitable for cold or winter conditions.
Which 2025 E-Ray trim is the best value?
The 1LZ coupe contains the core performance equipment and is the value choice. The 2LZ is more appealing for daily use because it adds features such as heated and ventilated seats, Bose audio, blind-zone and rear-cross-traffic alerts, and a head-up display. The 3LZ mainly upgrades interior materials and trim.
Does the Corvette E-Ray save fuel because it is a hybrid?
Not in the way an economy-focused hybrid does. Car and Driver reports EPA estimates of 19 mpg city and 24 mpg highway, with 23 mpg in its 75-mph highway test. The hybrid system primarily improves acceleration and traction.
How should I check a used Corvette E-Ray for recalls?
Use the vehicle identification number in NHTSA’s recall lookup, then ask a Chevrolet dealer to confirm that applicable recalls, software updates, and service campaigns are closed. A service bulletin is not the same as a safety recall, so the categories should be kept separate.
The Bottom Line
The 2025 Corvette E-Ray is the C8 for buyers who want the widest useful performance envelope: 655 horsepower, exceptional launch traction, a usable two-compartment cabin, and more confidence in poor weather than a rear-drive Corvette. Its extra mass, price, and complexity are real compromises, and its hybrid system will not deliver EV range or economy-car fuel consumption. Choose the Stingray for value and rear-drive purity; choose the Z06 for high-rpm character and track focus. Choose the E-Ray when one Corvette has to do nearly everything on the road.
