The 2025 BMW M2 refresh is no longer “coming this year”: BMW announced it on June 12, 2024, with production phase-in planned for August 2024. Its US announcement described a palette of three solid colors, seven metallic shades and four BMW Individual finishes—not seven new colors in total. The update also raised output to 473 hp and brought equipment and software changes.
When did the 2025 BMW M2 refresh arrive?
BMW announced the updated M2 on June 12, 2024, and said worldwide production phase-in would begin in August 2024. It was a 2025 model-year update, not a future launch. BMW’s later June 2026 announcement concerns the 2027 M2 with M xDrive; it should not be confused with the 2025 refresh. BMW’s 2025 US announcement and its 2026 announcement of the 2027 M2 establish those separate timelines.
What does BMW mean by the M2’s color selection?
BMW described the US 2025 M2 palette as three solid colors, seven metallic shades and four BMW Individual finishes. That is the total selection across those categories in the announcement—not seven new colors overall. BMW highlighted the following finishes in describing the expanded range:
- Standard palette highlights: Sao Paulo Yellow, Vegas Red metallic, Portimao Blue metallic, Skyscraper Grey metallic, Frozen Pure Grey metallic and Frozen Portimao Blue II metallic.
- BMW Individual additions: Java Green metallic, Voodoo Blue, Grigio Telesto Pearl Effect metallic and Twilight Purple Pearl Effect metallic.
The categories and names come from BMW’s US announcement. BMW Canada also described three solid, seven metallic and four BMW Individual finishes in its Canada-market release. Still, a listed finish should not be assumed available in every country, configuration or order period; check the relevant market’s specification and ordering information.

What else changed for 2025?
More engine output and two transmission choices
BMW said the M2’s inline-six gained 20 hp, bringing maximum output to 473 hp for the announced US 2025 model. Buyers could choose a six-speed manual or an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic. The output and transmission details are from BMW’s 2025 US release.
Software and design updates
The refresh introduced BMW Operating System 8.5 and included new interior and exterior details, so the changes extended beyond paint. BMW’s announcement describes the updates but does not make the color count a measure of the refresh’s overall scope.

Production location
BMW said the M2 would be built alongside the 2 Series Coupe at BMW Group Plant San Luis Potosí in Mexico.

BMW listed a US base MSRP of $64,900, plus $1,175 destination and handling, in its 2024 launch announcement. That is historical announcement-era pricing, not a current quote. What to check when shopping for a 2025 M2
- Confirm the paint name and whether it is offered for the specific market and car configuration; the US palette list does not guarantee universal availability.
- Check whether the car has the six-speed manual or eight-speed M Steptronic transmission.
- Verify model year and equipment against the specific vehicle. BMW’s current USA model page is oriented to 2027 models, so it is not a substitute for 2025 specifications.
- Use a current dealer or vehicle listing for pricing rather than relying on the 2024 launch MSRP.
