BMW’s 2025 M 1000 RR and M 1000 R updates target two different kinds of liter-class performance: the RR is a faired, homologated superbike with extensive engine, aerodynamic, chassis and electronic changes, while the R is a naked roadster whose update focuses on winglets, lighting, throttle response and trim. BMW USA lists the M 1000 R at $21,695 plus destination; the US update reviewed here did not establish a final price for the RR.
How the 2025 M 1000 RR differs from the M 1000 R
The M 1000 RR is the faired superbike in BMW’s M motorcycle range, developed around a more extensive set of mechanical and electronic updates. The M 1000 R is the hyper naked roadster: it keeps the exposed roadster format and receives a narrower package of changes. BMW’s announcements describe equipment and specifications, not independent comparative test results, so they do not establish which is quicker on a circuit or more comfortable on the road.

What BMW changed on the 2025 M 1000 RR
Engine and exhaust revisions
BMW lists a revised cylinder head with new ports and a reshaped combustion chamber, full-shaft titanium valves and a new engine mount. The titanium exhaust also changes, with revised flanges, oval header inlets and a pre-silencer.
For Japan, BMW Motorrad published output of 218 PS at 14,500 rpm, compared with 212 PS for the previous version. BMW Japan attributes the increase to several changes, including new titanium valves, a compression-ratio increase from 13.5:1 to 14.5:1, a revised oval intake shape, airbox and combustion-chamber changes, and larger throttle valves. These are manufacturer figures and explanations for Japan-market specifications, not independent measurements.

Aerodynamics and bodywork
The RR gains M Winglets 3.0 and a new fairing. BMW Motorrad USA says the revised winglets provide up to 16.3 lb of additional downforce. That is BMW’s stated maximum, not a result from an independent test. BMW also lists plastic construction for the fairing, front wheel cover and engine spoiler, and says the M Aero Wheel Cover has been removed.
Chassis and drift-assist electronics
A revised frame accompanies the engine and bodywork changes. BMW adds DTC Slide Control, which uses a steering-angle sensor to support acceleration drifts, and ABS Pro Brake Slide Assist for braking drifts. A Slick setting is also included. The M Quick-Action Throttle has a 58-degree rotation.

BMW lists Euro 5+ compliance for the updated model. Its October 2024 US announcement said all four updated M motorcycles would receive the quick-action throttle and Euro 5+ compliance.
What changed on the 2025 M 1000 R
The R’s update is more focused than the RR’s. BMW Motorrad USA lists a dual-flow LED headlight, a 58-degree M Quick-Action Throttle, black clutch and generator covers, and a Platinum Grey rear frame and swingarm. It also adds M Winglets, available in black textured paint or as optional carbon fiber, and lists Euro 5+ compliance.

BMW Motorrad Japan specifies the M 1000 R at 154 kW (210 PS) and 199 kg DIN. Those are Japan-market manufacturer specifications; they should not be treated as independent test results or automatically applied to every market configuration.

BMW Japan says its listed base prices exclude accessories, taxes other than consumption tax, insurance, registration and related costs. Japan prices are not US MSRP and are not converted here. BMW Motorrad USA’s October 30, 2024 announcement planned Q2 2025 arrival for the updated models and said pricing would be announced closer to launch; its later model-year update gave the R figure above but still described RR pricing as forthcoming later in 2025.

Which changes matter most?
- For the RR: the update is a broad package, not simply new winglets. It combines engine and exhaust revisions with a revised frame and drift-focused electronic aids.
- For the R: BMW’s published changes center on new aerodynamic pieces, a headlight update, throttle and finish details rather than the RR’s listed engine and drift-assist revisions.
- For price comparisons: compare local market announcements and dealer quotes. The available US announcement establishes the R’s MSRP, but not a final US RR price; Japan’s yen prices apply to Japan.
