Toyota rates the hybrid system at 437 horsepower and 583 lb.-ft. of torque, and reports fuel economy of up to an EPA-estimated 20 mpg city, 24 mpg highway and 22 mpg combined, depending on grade and drivetrain. Those figures describe Toyota’s published specifications—not independent test results—and towing or payload capacity depends on the specific truck.
What is the 2024 Toyota Tundra i-FORCE MAX?
i-FORCE MAX is Toyota’s hybrid powertrain for the Tundra. It combines a twin-turbocharged V6 with a motor generator, a 288-volt sealed nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) battery and a 10-speed automatic transmission. Toyota places the motor generator and a clutch in the transmission bell housing, between the engine and transmission. The battery sits beneath the rear passenger seats.
The motor generator can provide electric assistance through the transmission. Toyota describes the hybrid system as supporting engine start-up, EV driving, electric assist and energy regeneration. The 10-speed transmission also has sequential shift mode, uphill/downhill shift logic and TOW/HAUL modes. Toyota says the hybrid system operates in TOW/HAUL to help provide acceleration and torque for towing; that is a manufacturer description, not an independent towing test.
How much horsepower and torque does the Tundra i-FORCE MAX have?
Toyota rates the 2024 Tundra i-FORCE MAX at 437 horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 583 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,400 rpm. These are Toyota’s published system-output figures for the hybrid powertrain, rather than measurements from an independent test.

What is the Tundra i-FORCE MAX’s fuel economy?
Toyota reports up to the following EPA-estimated fuel economy for the 2024 Tundra i-FORCE MAX:
- City: 20 mpg
- Highway: 24 mpg
- Combined: 22 mpg
“Up to” matters: Toyota says the estimates depend on grade and drivetrain, so they do not apply to every i-FORCE MAX configuration. They are published estimates, not a guarantee of an owner’s fuel economy or an independent real-world result. Check the EPA estimate for the exact grade and drivetrain when comparing particular trucks.

How much can a 2024 Tundra tow?
Toyota lists a 12,000-pound maximum towing capacity and a 1,940-pound maximum payload for the Tundra lineup. These are lineup maxima, not ratings that every i-FORCE MAX truck can achieve. A specific truck’s capacity depends on its configuration and equipment; use its vehicle-specific window sticker or Toyota specification sheet rather than assuming the lineup maximum applies.
Toyota also lists available towing and chassis equipment, including a Panoramic View Monitor with camera views to assist with trailer connection and viewing the truck’s surroundings. Rear air suspension is available on certain grades, and Adaptive Variable Suspension is also described as available equipment. Availability varies, so confirm the equipment on the particular vehicle.

Which 2024 Tundra grades offer i-FORCE MAX?
The 2024 Tundra range includes SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794, TRD Pro and Capstone. Toyota identifies the TRD Pro and Capstone as i-FORCE MAX only. Availability of the hybrid powertrain and other equipment varies across the remaining grades and by drivetrain; a grade name alone does not establish the specification of a particular truck.

- COMPATIBLE WITH TOYOTA TUNDRA 2022-2026: Fits 3rd Gen SR, SR5, Limited, Platinum, 1794 Edition, TRD Pro, Capstone and applicable configurations across the model range. Compatible with 3.4L i-FORCE V6 and 3.4L i-FORCE MAX V6 Hybrid applications where equipped
- FOUR MODES AND 36 SETTINGS: Reduce throttle lag and adjust pedal feel with four modes: Eco, City, Sport and Sport+, with nine levels per mode for 36 settings total. Eco provides smoother pedal response for controlled power delivery that can support better traction. Each mode gradually increases throttle response, and Sport+ is the most aggressive throttle response setting
- QUICK PLUG & PLAY INSTALL: Connects directly to the accelerator pedal position sensor without cutting or splicing wires or requiring special tools. Installation is fully reversible and requires no permanent changes
- WIRELESS APP CONTROL AND ANTI-THEFT: Adjust modes and sensitivity through the controller or free Pedal Commander app. The optional subscription-based Anti-Theft feature locks the accelerator pedal signal, immobilizing the vehicle until disabled through the app
- FACTORY ECU SOFTWARE STAYS UNCHANGED: Pedal Commander keeps factory ECU software unchanged and is fully reversible. It adjusts accelerator pedal response without changing engine output and is compatible with other performance upgrades
- Nightshade Package: announced for the Limited.
- TRD Off-Road Package: announced for Platinum 4×4 models.
- Factory-installed TRD 3-inch suspension lift: offered as an option.
Confirm the package and option availability on the exact vehicle, since equipment depends on grade and configuration.
How to compare specific Tundra builds
When comparing two trucks, match their drivetrain and cab/bed configuration first. Then compare the details that can change from one build to another:
- Hybrid or non-hybrid powertrain and its published output.
- EPA-estimated fuel economy for the exact grade and drivetrain.
- Configuration-specific towing and payload ratings.
- Cab, bed and seating or cargo needs.
- Standard versus optional towing, suspension and off-road equipment.
For published 2024 specifications and option information, see Toyota’s 2024 Tundra model-year announcement. Toyota also reported that the Tundra received the Texas Auto Writers Association’s “Truck of Texas” award at its 2023 Texas Truck Rodeo; that accolade is not a performance rating. Toyota’s award announcement describes the recognition.
